My DDs are invited a friend's birthday party - tomorrow. I have no idea what to get him. I have girls. I have no experience with boys. I don't want to just get some junk just to have a present. I don't want to spend much and if I could get away with the $10 to $15 range, I would be thrilled. We are in a rural area. I know they have a pool. He probably likes outdoor type things, as well as other things. That is about all the info I have. I really don't know the family well. What ideas do you have for me? (Did I mention the party is tomorrow at 1:00pm and I don't have a gift?!)
thanks!

My kids have always loved to receive money. This is what we give by this age. Put $10 or $15 in a card. For real close friends we do $15, not so close $10.

How about a nice water gun? You can get a "blaster" type for between $10 and $15, and you may get lucky and find one on sale at this point in the summer. :thumbsup2 --Katie

I was also going to suggest a squirt gun or Nerf gun! I remember that age well, and even as a girl I loved the Super Soaker water guns. Putting $10 in a card would be a great idea, too...kids love money! :)

Nerf Guns and Legos are ALWAYS good for boys.

Believe me that even if there is only one child, boys can find something to do with both toys.

Gift cards to Target/Walmart or cash will work also. My boys are 10 and 13 and still love all of the above. My oldest also loves to get any sports stuff (soccer or basketball) and my youngest still loves to get angry birds stuffed animals.

My son is in that age range and he loves nerf footballs, super soakers, and rubber playground balls (he plays kick ball, four square and dodge ball outside with other boys.) He also loves to receive movie tickets and itunes gift cards.

Thanks so much. I knew you could help. Like I said, I have girls. My friends have girls. I don't know what to do with boys. I like the water gun idea. I could get one at Dollar General. I think I saw all their summer stuff on sale. They also have those balls that you soak and other such stuff. I just didn't know if that was something most boys would like or not. Great! I also like the cash/gift card idea. I never think of that. My kids are at the age where they like that now too. Thanks so much. What a relief.

Water guns, dart guns, pool toys, nerf stuff all of that was a hit when my son was 9. He was also into those card things then like pokemon and yugioh.

always a big hit (especially with kids) is just about any gift, wrapped up in cash. get a small boxed toy (like pps said, maybe water gun), and just tape $1 bills on it :)
or fill a gift bag with small dollar store summer-based items: water gun, balls, etc, and mix singles in the bag confetti or staple them along the rim of the bag.

Thanks for all the replies. We went with a nerf-type football that came with a stand to hold it for kicking. It is also in his favorite team's colors. I feel cheap - only spent about $9, but I can't afford alot right now. So, this is it.

I like this dollar bill wrapping idea. I could see that being a big hit. I'm going to save that idea.

Thanks again, all you boy-child people. I appreciate it. Now, off to the party.

Beyblades

Nerf gun

Super Soaker

legos

Money (always)

My soon to be 9 year old also likes books and comics, but only certain ones (loves the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books, for example).
