97% increase in cruise fare from 2012 to 2013

Are you comparing the exact same weeks in August?

We took our first DCL cruise in August 2009. We wanted to go in early August, but by pushing it back two weeks into August we saved a bundle. I was surprised by the huge difference between early August prices vs. late August prices.

I have found the 2013 prices on the Fantasy better than 2012. We are booked for November "Jersey Week" both years, both 2A/2K in a cat 5E, both booked on or close to Day 1 pricing with onboard booking discounts.

2012: $4742
2013: $4159

For us 2013 will be $583 cheaper.

Been on four Disney cruises. The last one was 2005. And I mean the last one because Disney Cruise Line had gotten much too expensive for us after that. Sad, too, because we loved it so. Looks like the prices continue to climb, so I doubt we will ever be able to cruise with Mickey again. :sad2:

Nor will you probably sail on the Oasis/Allure. We find Disney to be comparably priced to the Oasis/Allure if you book far in advance. Our 2012 cruise was over $1,200 less than the Oasis. I just checked our same cruise one year later on both Disney and the Oasis and Disney is higher, but not by much.

Granted, the other RCCL ships and Carnival are often a lot less expensive (but not always). YMMV

I understand that rates increase dramatically after opening day. What I am comparing is day one prices in 2010 for 2012 cruise versus 2011 day one prices for 2013 cruise.

As I said earlier, I compared opening day for 2012 to prices today for 2013 so my 2013 comparision may be overstated. That said, our Cat 5c went up by about 19%. Not nearly the 97% increase you found.

Yes, it's still an increase, but not as much as I was expecting based on how quickly prices jumped after opening day for the 2012 cruises. Our 2012 cruise has more than doubled in price. Waiting for 2013 will save someone quite a bit of money today.
