My dd(9) has had a slight case of acne for the past year. Have been to 2 specialists to no avail. Tried some over the counter remedies to no avail. I am hoping someone out there may have some tips/tricks that I can try to help her. Has anyone used ProActive & if so which of their products should I try?

Thank you to anyone for any suggestions:lovestruc

How are her hygiene habits? Where's the acne?

If DD doesn't wash her face 2x a day, doesn't wash her hair every other day or if she touches her chin a lot, she gets a lot of acne. If her hygiene is good (with young girls it's just iffy), then she's fine. I also get her to use witch hazel on her face in the morning and at night and it helps.

As for ProActiv, I have a cousin who had horrible acne and it worked wonders for her. I did read once if you have bad acne, always use sunscreen on your face every day because the acne scarring will tan and stay darker than the rest of your skin.

I would like to know, too. My 11 year old has developed a little on her forehead, but she doesn't seem too concerned about it, so I haven't done more than to buy her a mild cleanser - which she rarely uses. I bet it won't be long before she starts freaking out about it, and I would love to hear other's experiences so I know what products are good to try.

Which OTC remedies have you tried? Did they help at all or did you discontinue due to side effects like peeling?

I use proactiv and it's really good. It may be a bit harsh for a 9 year old. DD8 has had some acne and I used it once for her when she asked me what she could do about the pimples on her face. It made her face red for a little bit, but the acne cleared up. I've also put just the step 3 lotion on the problem areas, and that was OK.

I talked to my pediatrician about DD10 occasional breakouts across her nose. She gave me samples of Epiduo cream to try, it's a prescription and she says somewhat costly. It works well, we don't use it everyday just when she's having breakouts. We are still using samples so I can't tell you about price range.

I just bought Proactive for my dd11. She's becoming a grease pit with her face and hair. She takes after my sil... she can't skip even 1 day of washing her hair (my sil or my dd).

DD's pimples started about 6 months ago maybe, and we've tried everything the drug stores sell (noxema, loreal, clinique, dove, neutragena, etc). Nothing helped at all. It's been not even a week w/ the proactive, and I see a lot of improvement. Lots of tweens and teens have recently told her proactive works great for them too.
