9/23/06 Let's go!!!! Who's with us???

Hi, Michelle! I'm sure we're glad to see you join the thread.

To join the yahoo group, visit http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sailinginseptember/ and use the "join this group" button at the top of the page on the right side. I should be around this evening to make sure you're added.

The cheat sheet doesn't have where everyone's staying and when but I think I have it set up that anyone can add categories.

Wow!! We've had alot of new people join. :welcome:

Michelle~ Our DDs are very close in age! My DD will be turning 12 on the cruise. She's a little mad because she can't go to the teen club, but maybe next time. :cheer2:

Hope everyone has a happy and safe 4th. pixiedust:

Monica - I have just requested memembership into the yahoo groups....I think it's pretty neat to meet other folks before actually stepping foot on board.

Brerabbitt70 - My DD was wondering what grade your DD was going into.

I just paid off the rest of my trip!!! I was wondering when I would get my room assignment since I had to get a guaranteed cat 12. Any thoughts? I am crossing my fingers that DCL would be generous to give us an upgrade.

She's going into the 6th grade. The cut off date here is Sept. 1 and her birthday is the end of Sept. So, she's usually the oldest one in her class. She's so happy to be going to middles school because that's where all her friends are.

My DD is going into the 7th - same cut off date here too. She tends to be oldest in all her classes as well. Hopefully they will be able to meet on board.

off topic as far as cruises but I wanted to give you all an update on the decoration and toyless Fourth of July party I told you about a couple days ago.

First of all, it turned out fine. Even though my boxes of goodies are still sitting on the porch of our old house in Maryland (I called the next door neighbors and they confirmed that), we managed to enjoy our food with out red, white and blue paper goods and flag table coverings. The kids had a good time without the distribution of toys and novelties since it was stinking hot and all they wanted to do was swim in the pool anyway.

As it turned out I hurt my lower back the day before the party trying to lift something too heavy out of a spot that was too high up. That could have been a disaster since my husband had been out of town until Sunday afternoon and there was more work than time left to get ready for the party.
Fortunately, the damage wasn't so bad that I couldn't get around. I did a lot of food preparation and cooking sitting down. My sons helped lift, fetch, do laundry, and whatever I couldn't do.

Sunday afternoon, when dh did get home, I sent him to Home Depot to get the kit and supplies to build the kids' swing set. That's a 4-6 hour job. No big deal, right? That's IF the builder doesn't decide to make his own modifications to the design. LOL. So, dh was busy with that the rest of Sunday, most of Monday, and before the party on Tuesday.

Thank God for the kind of friends who say, "Call me if you need any help," and really mean it. My friend and her family came a couple hours early on Tuesday. While my husband finished building the playground set and mowing the grass, the rest of us managed to get everything else ready.

Dh was still working on the set when the bulk of the guests arrived. Soon it was time to fire up the grill but besides making a steak for the family, I'd never managed the grill before. Fortunately, before I was forced to do so, my friend's husband said, "I was born with a spatula in my hand." I think he must have been. He grilled the dogs, bratwurst, burgers, chicken and beef without dropping or burning anything and he amazed me with how many things he could cook at once.

Dh did finish his work on the swing set in time to enjoy the party. Unfortunately, it was so stinking hot none of the kids wanted to get out of the pool to eat let alone play on the new playground equipment.

About 5:00, our fun came to an abrupt end when a storm blew in. Fortunately, it gave enough notice by way of wind and thunder that neither we nor our food and clothes were soaked. Several people started taking things inside and a few praiseworthy adults started dissembling and packing the canape, folding up the tables and chairs and moving everything into the garage.

Most everyone left but a few families stayed. It was a nice relaxing ending to the day. The younger kids played in the basement. The older kids played chess in the dining room, and we adults just visited and chatted in the living room. Someone joked that we should make a tape of thunder. Next year, when we have a party and we think it's time for it to end, dh could sneak up on the roof with a sprinkler hose and I could play the thunder cd.

This part of the story doesn't really fit in anywhere but I'll tell you anyway. Another thing I had dh pick up at Home Depot when he went there for the swing set project was enough 1/2" PVC pipe, elbows, tees, and caps to make 20 minimarshmallow shooters. I cut all the pieces the night before the party and assemble the pieces into kits. I wasn't sure at what point during the party I was going to gather the kids to make the shooters. The opportunity presented itself with perfect timing. Right before the thunder started, a kid had the kind of accident in the pool in which you HAVE to clear the pool. I didn't want to embarass the little guy so I blew the whistle and told them that dh had a special project for them. Dh herded the kids to another part of the yard where they assembled their marshmallow shooter and played with them for a little while. That's when the thunder and the wind started and the party was pretty much over.

I hope you all had an enjoyable Fourth of July. My back still hurts and my kitchen's still a mess but it was worth it.

Wow! What a holiday you had. Sounds like everyone enjoyed all the hard work you had done. Good for you. When it cools off alittle, the kids are going to be all over that play set.

Our weekend was much easier on me. We went to a potluck get together on Sat. here in town. Sunday I went shopping all day with my DD. Monday we went out to eat and watched the new Superman movie. Tues (4th) we walked to the beach and had a picnic supper than watched the fireworks. It gets dark early here (8pm) so they were done by 8:30pm. Really relaxing holiday but we didn't see any old friends or family. We will get to do that in Sept. when we come to the mainland for our cruise.

Hope everyone else had a safe and fun holiday.

Hello Angie and Michelle.

Michelle~ I think they will wait til the cruise is closer to start giving out the room #s. I have heard of peoples rooms getting changed (upgraded) right up until the last minute also. So you never know when the upgrade fairy might visit you. hehe Grats on your final payment.

Gosh thats too bad about all those decorations not getting there in time for your party, Monica. It sounds like you all had a great time anyway.

I hope everyone enjoyed the holiday.

Here in Fairbanks, Alaska, it doesn't get dark at all now... so no fireworks. There were some folks in the neighborhood who insisted on setting off lots of firecrackers all hours of the night though. lol We enjoyed some time at home with the kids and grilled some cheese burgers. Monday was also our 15 anniversary, so it was great to have the hubby home and get to celebrate that as well. :)

Hello everyone!

You can count one more on this wonderful cruise!

I'll be going by myself on my very first cruise. Many friends convinced me to go on a Disney cruise almost two years ago. So here I come. I'm so sure I'll love it that the second one has already been reserved for a while (repo#2).

This cruise is combined to a 10-day vacation at WDW with free dining (way too much food!) staying at Pop Century.

See you there!

David :yay:

Welcome aboard all our new members!

I have been busy the last week and not checking in. What a surprise to see our ranks swelling. It does start to feel real when the final payment is made. Now it's off to booking airlines.

We had rain on our 4th of July. But that was a good thing! We are about 20 inches low over the last year in rainfall, so getting wet was a blessed event for us. We told our daughter she'd just have to wait for the Pirate party to see fireworks. She seemed pleased with that and is already working to get a pirate costume. She watched parts of the movie with us the other (Pirates of the Caribbean) night and was laughing at it all. My dainty little girl.. :)

 Hi everyone....espically all the new members. This past week has been  crazy, but we got through it. I will post more next week. I am currently getting ready to head out to my GIRLS ONLY SPA LONG WEEKEND GETAWAY :woohoo: :yay:

We will be leaving in about 2 hours from now, and it takes approx 2 hours to get to Calastoga Ca. One of my girlfriends has a time share up there.... On Saturday we will all be going to the Spa...Will be getting a one hour massage, a one hour facial, and a one hour mud bath.... which ive never done before..should be fun  I hope :rotfl: Sunday is my birthday and on Monday is one of the other ladies birthday.... We will be heading home Monday afternoon. :lovestruc I am a huge "homey" type of person, so I am VERY sure I will be MORE then ready to head back. I am soooo bad that every time we go on a week long cruise, by night 3 I'm like "can we go home yet?" :rotfl2:

party: We had a great fourth. of July...It was VERY busy...Went to DH's Aunts house...which all his family also came, for a lunchen bbq, and lots of visiting...then went to a family friends house for a dinner bbq and swim party...then all of us caravaned out to the leeves and watch the fire works :jumping1: The kids were EXHAUSTED, but our boys REALLY enjoyed them for the first time.

:flower: On a side note I found out my oldest daughter is going to make me a GRANDMA :cheer2:  :woohoo: I am SOOOOOO happy. She will be 24 the end of January and the baby is due Feb 4th. My kids are like we are going to be aunts and uncles before we are even 10 years old..and the boys haven't even started Kindegarten yet :rotfl2: They find it VERY funny... Thats what happens when you have your first one VERY VERY young. :rolleyes1 I have ALWAYS wanted to be a grandma before I was 40, but 41 is just fine :flower1:

Well, I should get...I still have some food shoping to do, and have to pick up a few of the ladies... We are taking my "beast" aka Yukon XL :lmao: so we can all fit in one car.... :welcome: again to all the new ladies..and I will chat/post more when I get back... Many :grouphug: and Much ::MinnieMo & ::MickeyMo love

Wow, Cheri, that's quite a week you've had. Congratulations on impending grandparenthood. Forty one sounds just right. My sister made my mom a grandma when my mom was 36. Not exactly a joyous occasion at the start.

I hope you girls have a relaxing and wonderful spa weekend. It sounds terrific!

Welcome to the new members on this thread! Nice to see more people. :goodvibes

Euphscott - my DD (6) wants a pirate costume as well. I don't know if anyone else at our table will dress up in costume but she wants to.

Our local Disney store got in pirate themed button down collared shirts for guys. Dark red background, man made material but it feels like silk. I picked one up for DS (9) and one for DH. A more subtle way to "go pirate". We shall see what they decide to do.

Cheri - hard to believe we are already talking weekend, didn't one just end :rotfl: . Have a great time at the spa. I've never tried mud either.

forgot to say, Congratulations on becoming a grandma soon. That is an exciting milestone!

David,

You're doing this alone? Good for you....It will feel like I am doing this alone since I have a t'ween who will probably make friends fast and leave me to my own devices :).

Welcome aboard.

Tata,
M

Hi, David, Welcome! I just got an email from someone requesting "approval" for our yahoo group. Was that you? If not, you're welcome to join us. We have a "cheat" sheet that will help you keep track of who is who here. Hopefully, the newest members will add a little information about themselves to the database soon. It's interesting how many different states we all are coming from.

Today is 75 days out until embarkation. I attempted to make a reservation at Palos for brunch or tea, but nothing is available :( What are my chances of eventually getting brunch or high tea? Any suggestions?

I was able to get a dinner but no High Tea. :sad2: I think your chances are pretty good if you get the ressie as soon as you get in the ship.

I agree with Veronica about the high probability of getting what you want once you have a chance to book it onboard when we get on the ship. I'm wondering if high tea isn't an online reservation to begin with. I never saw it listed. I'm going to check that out on the regular DCL forum.
