Spring Direct Incentives 2/9-4/27

Yeah I remember him.

The key thing you are missing here is resale vs direct. Direct is expensive compared to resale even if it’s $50 cheaper pp than Poly it doesn’t make it a good choice to buy direct. If you want to buy SSR at $83 pp resale for SAP that is a completely different conversation.
But what if you just so happen to want direct points to be able to stay at the restricted resorts ?

I listened to that advice which is I why I bought at AKL. But it’s easy to book anytime. I bought BLT for my firework view from the room ..to be able to book holidays at 11 months. Does anyone know Fat Panda who used to be on DVC fan? He was a big believer in buying SSR for points. I remember he said something like if he could do it all over again he would only buy SSR points🤣
Yes, and you get access to Jambo (harder to book) over Kidani, and value rooms/club level rooms, which are near impossible if you don't own there.

And you say that it's easy to book, but SSR is even easier, so has a worse home resort booking window advantage. If that bugs you about how "easy" AKV is to book without owning there, then it should bug you even more at SSR.

I have watched dang near every episode of the DVC Fan series. And I love all the main cast, including Panda while he was on it. He was self-admittedly a DVC newbie, and a local. He as a local would always have a car with him, making resorts like SSR/OKW much less of a hassle. Also as a local he was likely often not using his home resort window and booking last minute trips for a night or two for whatever was available. So SSR may make more sense in his case

That is a very different use case, and he bought Direct first before knowing all the details about resale. He probably just wishes he got more points for his money IMO. But that doesn't mean he was wishing for direct SSR, but probably an SSR resale contract.

But what if you just so happen to want direct points to be able to stay at the restricted resorts ?
Then just about every other active selling choice is better than SSR, unless you love SSR or expect to die before 2054 and/or badly need the upfront savings.

Then one of the other active resorts (not CFW) makes more sense to buy direct. This is not a slammin deal for SSR, its just a sale. If you want it, then buy it, but dont expect many to say it was the best choice. You asked how people are just dismissing the $50 per point and you've been told why. If you dont agree with it then that is fine. When advice is asked for you wont always be told what you want to hear.

@melissa70 Just buy ssr, but when you want to sell it during the next sale dont come a crying lol. Because there is always going to be opportunities. Welcome home weeks may have a great riv sale, a better resort might have a conversion and fire sale (not likely but you never know) you might stay at lsl and fall in love and now you cant dump ssr. But by all means its your money. I admit that I am flighty and so are you. SSR direct is not for us.

The board is trying to save you money and regret which they did for me and im very thankful. My brain works in FOMO mode and living in the moment. I need people that are more rational to set me straight lol.

@melissa70 this right here. Availability doesn't matter too much for him (Panda) as he just needs availability to be on property for a special event for a night or two which I believe he mentioned several times which SSR would provide whether it was with SAP or SAD 😥 points.

He also could have gotten away with resale unless wanting to stay at future resorts (which he loved CFW if I remember correctly) as he can get ANY of the AP's as a Floridian.

You are from the NE so it's a little more complicated to arrange flights, transport to and from MCO than it is when living roughly 30 minutes away and your biggest worry is the traffic on I-4.

John (Panda) also said he would buy only resale points, not direct, as he doesn't use the home resort priority. However, he did like the resorts that only can be booked with direct points (CFW, RIV). I'm not sure I'd go off his advice as he has said he could have thought it through better and made a better choice, but he had FOMO.

Exactly- he said he would often book just a couple months before his trip for just a night or two since he is local. Most non-Florida DVC owners can't travel that way, just picking up scraps of availability for one or two nights a few months out. But if you can travel very short trips and are flexible and willing to go with OKW or SSR if everything else is booked, then the cheapest points are probably a good choice.

IMO if you care that much about the restricted resort to be able to stay there, then you should just buy there instead of trying to 7 month it. *points to RIV in signature* If you don't care that much about the resort, then you probably shouldn't be buying direct anyways.

This is a great point. I love DVC Fan and its contributors, but their lifestyle and trips are nothing like us everyday people so what works well for them isnt what would work well for most.

True, who starts planning another trip in the middle of them fixing your current ones 🤦‍♀️ I cant with myself. And im still wanting to book more logged off and havent been on since lol
Call 1-800-DVC-SLOT for booking addiction help

It is seriously addicting though as we all like to plan and then stalk the system for where can be a better location/room or a way to save points :)

I currently have handicapped rooms at vdh that im wanting to turn into regular rooms. I feel like changing them may not affect them adding the 35 points they messed up on BUT I am staying away. Dont want any reason for them to take longer. I saw the exact 2 days I need in april in regular rooms available and it took everything not to change them thats why I logged off. They are gone now ofc but oh well at least I have rooms. I am improving lol!

Dont touch your reservations.

You seem angry. I’m just talking..I get some of the reasons , kind of. It’s not that I don’t agree..I just like to hear everyone’s take on it.
