 Actually I didn't used to be this way... but every since i've had Fibromyalgia sitting for to long really HURTS sooo bad..and the air time is just shy of 8 hours :scared1: So between me and two little girls my hubby is going to be one happy traveler :lmao:

:offtopic: Was at Walmart the other day and stocked up on 24hr non-drowsy dramine.... I get REALLY REALLY BAD motion sickness  :faint: . How many of you get seasick as well? Even on land I have CONSTANT vertigo... have had it since I was a kid :confused3 My girls got ill on our last cruise as well, but after a few days of adjusting they were fine,,,,,,but not me

Have a great Thursday everyone. :wave2: bye

My mom has fibromyalgia as well so I know from her that it can be quite painful. As for the seasickness, I have heard good things about ginger pills and the upside is that you would not get drowsy.

My Mother in law and her husband are coming on the cruise with us and he is quite worried about getting sea sick. I think he has used the patch things in the past and will be taking them.

My daughter and I get car sick very easily, but did not have any real problems on the cruise we took last summer. I imagine if we run into hard seas though that could always change. I think I will look for those ginger pills before we leave.

We have booked a Palo brunch and dinner, island tour and stingray observation in Grand Caymen and the stingrays in CC. Hoping Mom in law can get the same excursions when they are allowed to book (75 day mark).

We will be paying off our cruise today, so hopefully the Palo reservations will happen soon. I would not expect our TA to get the money into Disney immediately, so we may have a booking lag.

Scott, I don't want to get your hopes up but I paid our balance to our agent about lunch time via credit card (for the purpose of speed) and DCL had us as paid-in-full that night. Congratulations on paying off your cruise. It feels good, doesn't it?

Who's cutting trip chain links? Our blue links (June) are all gone!

I bought the Auto Train tickets last night. Warren and I are really excited about not having to drive except for the 3 hours to the train station and the hour and a half from the Florida stop to Cocoa Beach. Even if the cost was the same, we like the train better than flying. That sounds crazy, I know. Also, I figured out if we taking our car, instead of the van, saves enough money that it costs as much to drive ourselves as it will to take the Auto Train.

They just released FL res. and military discounts for our cruise dates :woohoo: !! Hope this info can help someone out.

They did not, however, have any discounts for the cat. 11 rooms we had already booked. This "forced" me to upgrade us to cat. 6 rooms for only a few hundred more a room :rolleyes1 . I had fully intended to just save everyone a little money, not have them pay more :bitelip: . Who could resist the chance to upgrade for so little though? Had they offered this deal at check in, we would have thought we had won the lottery.

I just cancelled our cabana massage reservations for CC day. That pays for the upgrade and I would rather have the balcony all week.

Have a great holiday weekend everyone :sunny:

Wow awsome. I didn't think DCL offered military discounts anymore. We will deffinately have to give them a call. Thanks for the heads up! And grats on your upgrading. :cheer2:

Way to go, Heidi! We loved having a balcony. I can tell you appreciate one too. For some people, it's not worth it, but we are not those people. Light and space mean a lot to me. You speak of a feeling I know very well. Last year, we learned, at check-in, that our adjoining category 9 rooms were upgraded to connecting 6's. Winning the lottery is exactly how I described how that felt. What deck are you on now?

I hope you were able to get a deal Whisker!

Hi Monica! Thanks for being happy for us. We are on the same deck (6) as before, but right at the elevators instead of a few cabins in front of them. We are gaining split bath, more room and natural light in addition to the balcony.

I am very happy for my in-laws traveling with us, this is their very first cruise. This will make it more special for them. This would have been our first time in an inside and I was pretty sure I could handle it. I had planned on spending alot of time on deck. Just get me on the Disney ship!

Now we will probably use room service more and read on the balcony some instead of always up on deck. Disney seems to have the best inside staterooms as far as value for what you pay. On some other ships, you have to pay for a suite sometimes to just get the space of a cat 10 on Disney. I hope I don't have to pay for this bit of good luck for this cruise by cruising in a dinky inside on another line in the future :p .

Last year, we were on deck 6, rooms 6028 and 6030, I believe. Even though we were grateful (actually elated) for the upgrades, we thought being next to the elevator was going to be a noise issue. It wasn't. The only tiny inconvenience was being at the opposite end and other side of the ship from the laundry room. We are on deck 5 near the theatre this year. I don't know if it's a good location or not but it was what was available (we wanted a category 6 with an 11 across from it) when we changed our dates earlier this year.

You will be near us, just one deck down. I think your only drawback will be the laundry room again. I don't think there is one on deck 5, just on 2,6,+7. The clubs and movie theater will be easy access all week long :thumbsup2 .

We were in 6550 on our first DCL cruise. It was more forward than I cared for. I prefer aft. We had unusually high seas on that cruise though so perhaps in low seas it doesn't matter.

We are getting more excited for this cruise now that it is all paid for. Feels like it is really going to happen soon!

We are off to a party today thrown by my DH's co-worker. It will be sorta fun ;) .

Happy Saturday, everyone!! :cheer2:

We got a Fl. resident rate!!!!! Well, we got it on OUR cabin, but they "sold out" of Cat. 6 before she could book my parents. I don't think I'll tell my dad we got a discount and he didn't....I would never hear the end of it. :sad2: So, we saved over $700! :dance3:

Now, about getting sea sick. I used Bonine on our last 2 cruises and had a great time. It didn't make me overly tired. I don't know if any of you are fans of MythBusters on the Discovery Channel, but they did a show about this. They tested over the counter meds, the bands, the things you put behind your ears and ginger pills. The ginger pills worked the best!!!!!! I'll bring some along for the kids...just in case.

Well, that's a bummer. I guess I'm just not going to do laundry. Better yet, I'll have whichever son wants to earn arcade money do it.

I agree that the seas are what influenced your experience. We were several rooms more forward than you and except for the last night when we hit very rough seas, there was no feeling of motion at all. On our return to Cape Canaveral was the night that Norwegian Cruise Line ship was damaged by the rogue wave. Before we went to bed, things started getting a little rocky but none of us were bothered by it. It was exciting to watch the waves and hear the creaking of the ship. The kids and I must have slept through the worst of it because the next morning we didn't know why our toiletries were on the floor. Dh said the closet door was sliding open and shut so he stuffed a towel on the track.

I hope that party was fun!

Those ginger pills, here's a dumb question. Can you taste the ginger? The last time I was pregnant, I was a little queasy so I tried ginger tea. Didn't like it much and now I won't eat or drink anything that tastes of ginger. I don't think I'll need them but I was just wondering.

Well, at least right now, the only categories offered with military discounts are verandah rooms. We were in a 12 gty so didnt qualify. Even with the discount, the upgrade to a verandah was way more than we wanted to spend. But, my husband has been dreaming of a portal room so he asked about upgrading to that and we went for it. lol

So now we are even more excited knowing we will for sure have a split bath and will also have a nice window. :goodvibes

That's great! What category did you upgrade to? What deck will you be on?

We live in NJ. I'm not familiar with how these Floridian discounts work. Let's say my mom, who lives in Florida, was going with us on a cruise. If she booked hers and our reservation and paid for both with my credit card, would only her passage be discounted or would the entire reservation she booked and paid for be discounted? Is the Florida discount only last minute or if you book well in advance, too?

The Florida discount is pretty hit or miss. It's a stateroom discount, not per person. You must have one adult Fl resident listed in each stateroom to get the rate. So, I could book two rooms at the discounted rate and list myself in one room and DH in the other. If you and your mom were staying in the same cabin, you would both be at a discounted rate.

They are also limited and go VERY quickly. We got the rate on our stateroom but they sold out by the time our TA tried to get it for my parents. They had some Cat. 5s, but we like where we are. They are usually released about 3 months before the sail date. We book the date and stateroom that we want and cross our fingers.

Hope that helps. :wave2:

We upgraded from the 12 gty to category 9. We should be in cabin 2030.

We were told they may open up the military discounts to lower than verandah rooms at some point. But, we booked on board our last cruise, and they said they can not combine the two discounts. So if the expanded military discount is after July 10, it wont work for us, since we could only get a 75% refund on our current reservation.

Hubby has been mulling over the price increase for a portal room for awhile... so much so that I think he would have regretted not getting it, so I sorta talked him into it. lol Last summer was our first cruise. DCL on the west coast. We booked a gty 12 and were given a free upgrade to category 10. Not having a window is not a big deal to me, but I really did appreciate the split bath. So with both those bonuses in mind I think it was worth the price.

I am just so excited about this cruise!! I can't stop thinking about it. lol

The cruise will actually be at the end of a big move for us (Alaska to Kansas), so there is lots to do the next month and a half. :Pinkbounc

Hi,

My name is Angie and I live in NC. I will be sailing on the Magic with my 2 children DD 10 and DS 8.5. It will be just the 3 of us. DH will be hanging out with friends in Miami for a week but we will all be going to Disneyworld on the 30th for 5 days with free dining :thumbsup2

This is our 2nd cruise - we took the 3 day last fall on the Wonder and were hooked. DS loved the kids club and hung out there most of the time. He is very social. DD loves the club, movies and hanging out at the pool munching on junk and ice-cream!

Does anyone have children the same age or are travelling alone too?
I would love to meet up with a group who would like to do brunch at Palo one day-not sure I could go alone!

Angie

Cheri, I appreciate you taking the time to explain that to me. I understand now about the Florida rate.

Welcome, Angie from NC. It's good to have another thread member. One of my sons just turned nine in June. The following might interest you as far as finding out who's in the same traveling situation as you.

Most of you have joined the yahoo group and have added information to the cheat sheet in the data base. If anyone who has not joined the yahoo group for our group who wants to, let me know. For the newer members of this thread, the "cheat sheet" in the database of our yahoo group is where we have added as little or as much information about ourselves as we want. There are several categories such as who is in your party, age of the kids, home state, ever cruise DCL before, etc. To prevent spam, it's a moderated group as far as membership but any member can post information or pictures.

Happy Fourth Of July to all. I just want to tell you all what I flaky thing I did. It's a good lesson in how pride goes before a fall. My son and I were sitting at the table precutting lengths of PVC for the marshmallow shooters we're going to make at our barbecue we're hosting here tomorrow. I was instructing him how we have to measure twice and cut once and how we should always check our work to prevent mistakes. Well, a UPS truck drove by as we were sitting there and I got to thinking my Oriental Trading order should have been here by today. I had ordered a BUNCH of decorations and toys and stuff for the party tomorrow. And, I had paid extra for the 2 day delivery. Before I called Oriental Trading to ask about my order I looked over the delivery tracking information. Guess what flaky me had done? (or not done). I never updated my address for shipping since the last time we moved. So, sure enough, the order was delivered on time but it's in Maryland and not in here in NJ! (where's that loser icon)

I'm so sorry about your decoration order Monica :sad2: . Your party will still be great, even so. I have tried the ginger capsules and I didn't taste them going down. I can't remember if they "burped" back up or not? I think I was eating all of the time on the cruise so that didn't happen to me. I get immediate relief with the SEA BANDS. My kids both like their bands as well. They can feel the feeling in their tummies when they are going to need them and they will put them right on. They take them off when they don't need them.

:welcome: Angie. My DS is 9 and will be in the same lab group as your DS.

Glad to see you upgraded Whisker. I'm glad Cheri, that you were able to get a discount, too bad about your parents' room. Keep checking, one might open up. Got to go .........

Howdy Y'all -
I will be joining you on the 9/23/06. I am a single parent bringing along my 12 y/o daughter. We will be celebrating her 13th while on board. It would be nice to meet some grown-ups to pass the time with since I am sure she will abandon me when she makes other friends.

Michelle

Welcome Angie!

We lve in GA and have a DS9.

Monica - we haven't joined the yahoo group yet. How do I do that?

Does the yahoo cheat sheet tell when everyone is coming in and where they are staying?

I'm so sorry about your oriental trading order! I love oriental trading and use them all of the time! They have some fun stuff! I'm sure your party will be great!

Welcome Michelle!

I hope everyone has a great fourth of July!

Beth
