Preface by saying that I already have a doctor's appt. scheduled for tomorrow but was just wondering if anyone else has delt with what we have for the past few weeks with our son. He has no known allergies to dairy or anything for that matter but he has been complaining of a stomach ache for a few weeks, on and off. He likes school and has no known issues with bullies or anxiety - and is generally really healthy.

He has been throwing up occasionally after eating breakfast but then feels better. He said the pain is near his belly button, like a dull ache.

I am thinking maybe he developed an allergy to something or maybe has reflux? Doesn't seem to be appendix as it is not a stabbing pain.

I am just curious what sort of tests the ped will run. Thanks!

The ped. checked him out, couldn't find infection and thought his diet sounded ok - and to treat for 2 weeks with Pepcid for acid reflux. Thanks!

We went through YEARS of mystery stomach aches with my son. Stomach stuff is funny because it can be anything. We went through all of the ridiculous testing with the specialists. I mean the whole spectrum of the tubes and cameras down the stomach, etc. Of course they never found anything.

Then one day a family doctor's practitioner just casually mentioned "hey, just try cutting out dairy and see what happens." And you know what? Magic cure! It was unreal that the specialist never considered even suggesting that. I guess all that testing was easier, huh?

It's not necessarily a lactose intolerance or a dairy allergy. It's just that dairy...maybe just certain dairy....is very difficult to digest.

It's fairly easy to do - just try it for a few days and see what happens. If not, try changing other diet habits, such as cutting out fatty foods or cutting out late night snacks, etc. Really, alter what goes IN the belly before going through all of that testing.

Does he happen to have a cold or sinus issues or fall allergies? He could be swallowing mucus (yuck, I know) over night and then have an upset stomach in the morning. Have a cousin with this problem.

In any case, sending good vibes and pixie dust your way. Hopefully you, your son, and the doctor can get it figured out quickly.

ok - warning going on with this post. TMI I'm sure

How are his bowels? You don't actually have to answer. But I had a friend who's daughter was having stomach issues, throwing up etc and they found her to be severely impacted. She was little at the time, maybe 3 and they gave her some kind of medicine. Likely a laxative or something like that.

Thanks for responding!

MJMouse - Yes, he has had allergies these past few weeks and I noticed that there was (sorry, TMI) a lot of phlegm coming up with what he ate. That could definitely be something and i'll keep that in mind when I talk with his doctor tomorrow.

Ckay - I was thinking Dairy intolerance too because lately he has been eating a lot of yogurt. In fact, I push yogurt thinking it would help his stomach with the live cultures but maybe it's too much for his system?

Radionate - I know that his bowels have been irritated the past few weeks. He is not constipated though, it seems to be the other way around.
