8 injured by lightning strike...

Glad everyones ok though. Seaworld has strict rules regarding thunderstorms in the area. That if Lightning is within a certain mileage of the park that all water activities are suspended until lightning is gone. That includes the outdoor shows at Seaworld too. Sounds like a freak accident. Luckily the thunderstorm season is almost over.

Yeah I heard it on the news and I was shocked to. It was 2 days after I went their and I forgot a pictuure so we had got rained out of aquatica and I tried to go there and they wouldn't let no one in or out due to the storms. I hope those 8 people are okay.

Just heard about this on the local news and they said they were all released this morning.

I'm glad they are all okay. :goodvibes We were there last Sept. (2nd time) and got hit by one of the worst storms we've ever experienced while in FL. And we go in Sept. a lot.

I was picking up our free family photo and the skies just opened up. They wouldn't let us leave the area and made us get under shelter. Scary thing for me was my DM and DD11 were just on the other side of the wall at the Laguna Grill and I couldn't get there. We were kept there for about 30-45 mins. My DM said at first they told them to get under shelter, then they told them to all go into either the restrooms or the restaurant. She opted for the restaurant since she knew how cold the restrooms are.

I found them in the restaurant, jammed packed, with a hundred, or more, guests. I got a little teary when I saw them-not that I was worried that they would get hurt, but because I knew my DD11 would be worried about me (and she was) and just the sense of relief I felt.

There were several lightening strikes that we so close you could hear the zzzzt zzzt sound (electricity)just before the strike. :scared1:

After about 30 mins after being let loose the park was pretty empty, they reopened the water areas (until more rain came back) and we have the park mostly to ourselves.

Again, so glad noone was seriously injuried. :goodvibesI guess you really should listen to the employees when they tell you to stay under cover. ;) (at DC, TL, BB, or wherever.)

I'm glad everyone was ok! I was at DC on a stormy day a few years ago. The park staff did a good job of ushering everyone away from the water when isolated storms would come through. Still very scary, though!

My husband and I were there on that day and it was a pretty big storm that lasted for almost an hour. We were fortunate that we found shelter under one of the locker areas and it wasn't too crowded. It was right next to where you can get the frozen lemonade. There was a really big and loud lightening strike and it was shortly after that that we heard one emergency vehicle after another. I thought it was further down from DC like Aquatica or somewhere like that but later found it was right at DC.

Besides the people being injured the lightening strike also took out the sound system. There was music played throughout the day plus announcements were made through the sound system and it seemed like they were trying to make some kind of announcement but all of a sudden it gave off this high pitched noise and a bunch of rattle sounds. They never did get it going the rest of the time we were there. I'd be curious to know how long it was before it was up and going again.
