Disneyland hit by 'liquefaction' after quake

Mar 11 2011
Tokyo: The car park at Tokyo Disneyland was drenched with water-logged segments from the ground following the 8.9-magnitude earthquake that rocked Japan's Pacific coast on Friday, police said.

It was earlier reported that a tsunami might have caused the inundation but police said the phenomenon was due to liquefaction of soil caused by the intense shaking of the tremor.

There were 69,000 people at the Disneyland and the adjacent Tokyo Disney Sea, built on a landfill in Tokyo Bay, when the quake occurred, a spokesman at the local Urawa police station said.

There were no injuries or property damage reported at the theme parks, he said.

"The visitors have been evacuated to safe places but there are many puddles due to liquefaction around the theme parks," he said.

OOPS, in my early post it was 3000 people were asked to leave the area of the nuclear plant, not withing in 3000 miles, I apologize

Changed do I got the numbers wrong

Even so, if this thing blows it will impact a good portion of the world, eventually.

I did look up to see what was 3000 miles from Japan and Hawaii is 3900 miles away.

Sweet Jesus this is unimaginable. Just woke up to see all of this. My heart is with everyone affected by this disaster. The power plant...as if the earthquake itself isn't bad enough!

I have CNN on, there are 4 nuclear power plants shut down in Japan.

There is also a blurb on a blog on CNN The U.S. State Department issues a travel alert for Japan, saying U.S. citizens should avoid travel there. The alert expires on April 1.

Really?? You think?

Japan has asked the US for help---amazing that when countries are in trouble they immediately rush to ask the US for help but other times we are the evil nation :rolleyes1

My heart goes out to the people of Japan and all affected.

When I watched this on the news this morning, I immediatly thought of my friend who currently lives in Hawaii. His parents and extended family currently live in Tokyo and he travels back and forth for business.

I was very relieved to see that he is posting on Facebook to let everyone know that he is in Hawaii and not Japan. He is not in contact with his family, yet, but he is optomistic that his parents are okay based on his contact with friends in their area of Tokyo who have posted on Facebook.

I sincerely hope that he is able to make contact with his parents soon to be sure. Also, he lives on a mountain in Hawaii, so he feels safe from a tsunami.

Just woke up and the images are absolutely devestating.

My heart goes out to all those in Japan and people affected. :(

A nuclear expert is on Good Morning America right now and is saying that there was a failure in the emergency back-up shut-down system in one plant. He says there is cause for concern because both back-up systems failed however it is not a disaster at this point.

To me that is so scary.

The first waves should be hitting Hawaii any time now

Did anyone hear any updates of those 2 smaller islands to the left of Hawaii? I saw it on the news this monring but I dont remember their names.
