8.9 earthquake and tsunami in Japan!

As an American citizen ~ :worship:.

Right now, I don't give a rat's behind how much aid Japan has given us or how many other countries have asked us for help.

Their country and people have been devastated by an earthquake. If we can help, we should! And we will, as will many other countries.

We step up to the plate when bad things happen. Now is not the time to worry about tit for tat BS.

Whew! I feel better now!

We also woke up to this terrible news and I have a friend that lives in Hawaii. I immediately was worried about her and her family's safety. She has assured everyone via Facebook they are OK.

Thoughts going out to everyone affected by the quake and the millions of people that may be affected by the tsunami.

:worship:

Thank you for that. I would of got points. Feel free to speak for me Sara!

I have a friend who is currently in Tokyo. He posted a facebook video stating that he was fine.

my prayers are with everyone affected. It seems silly that yesterday people in my area were worried by a little rain and flooding when something so much worse was going on.

Just got a messages from DD's social studies teacher and DS science and histoy teachers, that instead of the planned lessons, they were going to be watching and discuss what is going on with this weather/storm system.

I was thinking that this morning too while watching the weather channel. They went from showing the tsunami to local weather with flood warnings. But then I thought about the people who the local flooding is effecting. If my basement was full of water, or my foundation was being eroded or I had to evacuate my house because of local flooding, then yes it would be a major life event for me.

So sorry for all affected. Prayers to all in Japan & who may still be in danger.

To all our Dis friends on the west coast, please take precautions. i am worried about you all. :flower3:

Do we have any Japanese DISers? My heart goes out to the Japanese people.

Of course we should help just as countries have helped us and even when they haven't. It's simply the right thing to do.

My Boss is on his way home from Taiwan, connecting through Tokyo. His flight was scheduled to land 20 mins before the quake hit! :scared: I know Tokyo is pretty much ok but his flight home was canceled, no phones and we haven't heard from him. I think he will have a good story or two when he finally gets home!

I couldn't believe this when I saw it.

The massive Japan earthquake which struck earlier today created a vast whirlpool in the ocean - a terrifying prospect for anybody in the boat caught up in it.

me too... he landed like an hour after the earthquake hit. we were a little concerned until that facebook post.

My mom is a teacher at a high school that typically takes students on Spring Break trips.

This year two teachers took students to... Japan and Australia. They left this morning. The parents are freaking out and rightfully so. Their flights left early this morning and no one has heard from them. It should be interesting to see what the travel company (EF) does.

In the whirlpool they showed a boat slowly going into it.

I have two friends from Japan. One I haven't heard from but he is on the southern end of Japan. The other one I got an email from this morning before I had even turned on the news. I didn't understand what she was saying at first. She is in Tokoyo. She said she was home, she went outside when it hit and the power lines were going down all around her house. The street cracked and brown muddy water started coming out of the hole. Her two boys were at elementary school and the younger one thought it was fun. But the older one understood what was going on and was very shaken up. I guess they still have power and her house wasn't hurt. Her parents live up by the epicenter and she said they are ok too. She and her family are very lucky! I can't imagine though, having my kids at school and not knowing if they were ok or not.

I'm in Minnesota, but my wife (who is Japanese) and daughter are in Japan and were at TDS when the quake hit. Apparently everyone is OK and there was only minor damage to the parks, but the quakes were amazingly strong and frightening. The parks are in Chiba, which is about 100 miles closer to the quake's epicenter than Tokyo. I'm amazed that there wasn't more damage in the parks (they must be extremely well-built!) as my wife said she a great deal of damage to the roads and train tracks in the area as they were transported to a hotel near the park (where they're going to sleep tonight...in the lobby!).

You can see a boat on the left side of it. Ugh.

Thanks for the report. There seems to be a lot of misinformation out there when it comes to TDL.

So tragic what's happening in Japan. Prayers for everyone impacted.

I'm wondering about cruise ships that might have been in the area of Hawaii? Does a tsunami have an impact on them? I thought I read that for boats/ships out in the middle of the ocean, that they would not be affected by a tsunami, unless they are somewhat close to a shoreline?
