8/17/2008 Double Dip 4-day Wonder

We've stayed at the Poly before and we just loved it. The monorail is so convenient and saves so much time! And the tropical decor makes it feel like you're really on vacation! It's also nice that your kids will be able to spend some time with their cousin too!

Lynda - you will have to tell me all about the Poly - i have debated that for our trip next year, but can;t decide. The dance group will be staying at POP, but since it is easter and so crowded, I was thinking of maybe splurging.

We'll fly back home right after deboarding so that we can have some rest before going back to work on monday? :(

We're spending 1 night at Polynesian conceirge after the 3-day cruise. The day we get off the ship we're going to Hollywood Studios and the next day we'll go to Magic Kingdom (and then start toward home). It's a major on-the-go experience. We wouldn't even be doing it, but it's a special opportunity for the kids to do some rides with their 20 yr old cousin. I want to take advantage of that.

Jess

I'm not stalking you...really...but we are staying at the Poly concierge after as well! :rotfl:

disnutz,
The Poly is great! As I mentioned, the monorail is so convenient and it really spoils you. Plus it's close to the Transportation Centre too so that's another advantage. The rooms are a nice size and even the towels were bigger than at the moderates! The lobby is very beautiful and when you're walking in amongst all the tropical decor and greenery, it seems like you're in the South Sea islands.! The kids really enjoyed the pool and both restaurants had some great food! I would really recommend it and I felt it was worth the extra money. We've stayed there twice, both times before a DCL cruise. I would have booked it for this holiday but I wanted something a little less expensive and my DS's favourite resort is CBR, so we went with that instead.

We're staying at the Pop the night before the cruise. I've heard so many good things about it that I thought we'd try it for just the one night to see for ourselves. And then it's the CBR after the cruise! Even though the main pool is under construction, at least they have the pools in each 'island' area.

We have stayed at the POP and CBR before as well as some others. I prefer the CBR over POP, but had a good time for what it is. The beauty of it is that I could get 2 rooms for a lot cheaper than 1 at POly, so we will have to see.

Willem, that's cool that we're at the Pop at the same time! I'll keep an eye out for you!

disnutz, yes, money always comes into play somehow! I would love to win the lottery and spend lots of time at the Poly or the Grand Floridian! Also, your DD might want to be with her dance friends at the Pop.

Finally got our docs. I think DME to the Poly before the cruise and to MCO from the CR after the cruise is finally correct. A Such a little reservation but it took forever to get it right and I wasn't even changing anything.

disnutz.....we have enjoyed the Poly very much over the years. The only thing I would consider a negative, besides the price, is that the buildings are not connected to the Ceremonial House. This can be a pain in nasty weather.
Enjoy.

Lynda.......I agree that it easier getting off the ship if you are not going straight home or if you have another cruise planned. Have a great time you lucky B2B cruisers.

Starting to pull things together as well as help the kids finish their summer reading. My DD has finished 2 out of 3 books. And my DS finished The Joy Luck Club, a favorite of any teenage boy:laughing: . Now we are laboring through Don Quixote. This is a funny, strange book, but it is too long for a kid that hates reading. DS is somewhat dyslexic so he'd rather have sharp sticks in his eyes than read. I'd like to read my own books this summer. I guess that's what the plane ride is for.

So far my best moment was going to the library to pick up a copy of the book. I couldn't find the world authors in that library. When asking for help the librarian asked what book I was looking for, I told her Don Quixote. She asked me if that was the author. It made me smile inside. And I guess since they don't sell candy she wouldn't have a copy of The Three Musketeers either? It was an interesting moment.

Thanks for letting me vent. With 5 books and 4 eagle scout badges, I'm not getting as much fun, family time with the children. I guess I'm getting a little loopy.

Dizzyworld, just curious...is the summer reading for your kids mandated by the school or is this something they've taken on themselves? I have to hand it to your DS re reading The Joy Luck Club! Good for him! I enjoyed it but I don't think too many boys would read it, especially teenage boys!

I'm packing 4 books because I'm planning to do a lot of reading on the trip while lounging the chairs by the pool or beach. I've got the latest Sophie Kinsella book, another one by Emily Giffen (those are my chicklit fixes), one by Mary Higgins Clark and either a Cathy Kelly book or the latest James Rollins' book. I also love Jodi Picoult, Marcia Willett, Maeve Binchy, Rebecca Shaw, Rosamund Pilchur and the entire Harry Potter series.

Sorry, didn't mean to go on so long about books...just got carried away!

Dizzyworld - I see you are from Towson - I work in Hunt Valley, but we live in PA. What's funny is that my DD's school reading for this summer also includes the Joy Luck Club. Although then she has to read A Separate Peace too - so she feels the pain!!

I just threatened this morning that if she is not done by the cruise, I am going to make her sit in the room by herself until its done!!

My 14 year old DS has not even started his summer reading. I brought it up the other day and he said, "I'll do it on the cruise."

Yeah.....right! He's doing it over the next couple of weeks even if it kills both of us. :)

Am I the only one who has not received my cruise docs? I'm getting worried...

We'll be at CBR for 2 days before the cruise. It's not my favorite but we're traveling with my dad's family and he chose it.

addicted_to_WDW, that's exactly how my DS16 would have responded if he had to do summer reading! And my answer would have been the same as yours because we do know better than that!

My DS11 has to read three books this summer, do book reports on two and answer questions on the other one. He also has a huge math packet to finish in the next 10 days! All of this was mandated by the sixth grade teacher for next year. I'm glad she made it "required" so I'm not the only bad guy making him do work over the summer. So far he has read one book and done the book report. The second one is almost done! The third he plans to read on the trip (yeah, right). :sad2:

Wow, our kids don't have to do any schoolwork over the holidays! I find that very interesting!

Me too I'm surprised about all this reading during vacations. I think my pupils would shoot me if i suggested that. :)

The Joy L.C. book was mandated. The other book just had to be 200+ pages, a non-American or British author, and fiction. Plus for both books he has to write notes and a chapter summary and do something called Cornell Notes. New to me and a pain. Most of the books that we were able to find were about 380+ pages. He, and DH, leave for the Florida Keys Sunday until the next Sat. He also competed 4 Eagle Scout badges. I don't know who needs the vacation more- him or me? He'll have one day off before school starts. At least I don't go back until Sept. 8th.

cyndisun........we'll trade our book for your math. We love math. It is my favorite thing to teach.

diznutz.....we will be at Wegman's in Hunt Valley tomorrow. We have to go up York Rd. for a few errands, and the children asked for muffins from Wegman's. I wish the store was closer. We love that store. [It's a very nice, large grocery store for those of you that might wonder.]

Two weeks from now, my head will be resting on a pillow in the Poly. I really can't believe it is here already.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Wegman's!! I go there at least twice a week for lunch and errands!! but I am lucky because I work so close.

DD has 3 summer reading books - and she wishes they would give her a choice - but they are all mandated. She only has to complete a few questions on each. DS has one book (SHiloh) but also has to watch the movie and do a comparison. Seems like an awful lot for 4th grader to me, but what do I know.:confused3

1 1/2 weeks and I will be sitting in the Royal Pacific at Universal. :cool1: Everyone keep your fingers crossed that little dude is big enough for HUlk, or it won;t be pretty!!:sad1:

Only 8 days to go now!
Read on the DISboards about door magnets. Are you making them? I tried something.
