8/17/2008 Double Dip 4-day Wonder

Is anyone else renting a car? The rates are still ridiculous. I keep checking.

Lynda - rachel can't wait to hear from your Daughter.;)

Do we have any 8 or 9 yr old boys going that would like a buddy?

I keep going back and forth on transportation to the port.

My kids still don't know about the ship...

I have twin 9 year old nephews that will be there...:) :)

Coach Rick - do your nephews know about the trip? I want my DS to meet up with some folks, either by email beforehand, or at least on board!!

I am going back and forth too. Last time, we got the rental car so cheap, we ended up just keeping it the whole week, and leaving it at the port. This time, if prices don't come down, I won't be able to justify it.

I will check with my sister and find out.

I know, I just spent $160 for a Ford Focus for 4 days, and THAT was the best rate I could get. I didn't want to buy it, just borrow it a few days...geesh:sad2:

Hey all,

Just finished a stressful week. I did something foolish and re-sprained the ankle that had the surgery. Classic. I was inside and had the ankle brace off so I could do my physical therapy exercises. It was the day before the 4th of July and I had the sprinkler on outside to water my flowers.

I noticed it got overcast and might rain so I wanted to put away the garden hose. The hose was attached to a faucet right outside the garage doors.

So lazy me decided to put on a pair of flip flops rather than the hassle of putting on the ankle brace and then a pair of sneakers. I have a gravel driveway and I take about five steps outside when I lost my footing on the gravel driveway and twisted the ankle.

I did not fall down but the ankle buckled.

This of course happens the night before a long holiday weekend when everyone is away.

I didn't feel anything tear but the ankle was quite sore. I spent the entire weekend with an ice pack on the ankle and praying that I didn't damage anything.

I saw my physical therapist on Tuesday and just sobbed and sobbed that I might have damaged the ligaments. He looked at it and said the ankle looks fine.

So I went on Wednesday and saw my podiatrist who did the surgery. He confirmed what the therapist said. I slightly sprained the ankle but the repaired ligaments are just fine.

Whew. What a relief. I was in misery beforehand worrying that I might have to do more surgery and more time on crutches and all kinds of terrible thoughts going through my head.

The doc said I got a lesson on not cutting corners and ALWAYS wear the brace outside. He also mentioned that I lost about 10 days worth of physical therapy so I have to start from scratch with that.

So there has been my anxiety filled week. Too much excitment for me and to top it off, DS and DD were away at a sleepaway camp in Connecticut during the week.

First time they've ever been away from me that long. They had a total blast.

On Saturday we're seeing the Mets play at Shea Stadium. That is the first time we've ever been to Shea. We usually go see the Mets play in Philadelphia because that stadium is a shorter drive for us (and a newer/nicer stadium).

I can't believe our cruise is in five week :scared1: I will take extra care with my ankle so that I am 100% recovered by the middle of August. Right now the foot is so swollen that I can't fit into any of my shoes. I had to buy a bigger pair of sneakers.

Worst comes to worst - I'll be wearing sneakers with my pirate outfit.

Ski-and-Sea: I'm so sorry to hear about your ankle! But thank goodness it wasn't more serious. I am sending good thoughts your way for a quick recovery. :flower3: Keep up the physical therapy!!!

Everyone: I was doing some cleaning today :laundy: and came across a stash of Disney pins. I started thinking...wouldn't it be great if during our DisMeet the kids could do their own pin trading? It would be a good icebreaker for them and get them all talking. We have lots of pins from DLA that my son would love to trade.

Let me know what you all think.

Cyndi

Cyndisun.......thanks for the good thoughts  ...I'm taking extra care not to put too much pressure on the ankle. In other words....NO YARD WORK till after the cruise.

My ankle is sore right now because our seats at the Mets game were five rows from the top of the stadium. That was a lot of climbing up and down to get food/drinks/bathroom trips. Food was pretty good for stadium food.

I like the idea of pin trading for the kids. Gives them something to do while we talk. We've got a few pins that the kids have gotten from Disney over the years.

Ski and Sea...I suggest you lock yourself in a room and have a servant bring you food and everything you need to not risk hurting ANYTHING in the next 4...yep 4 weeks:thumbsup2 :rotfl2:

disnutz....yes they do know...we were trying to keep it quiet, but they figured it out since their reservation were off then on again. Luckily they know not to mention it around their older cousins.

Everyone... it's the 15th today, so anyone wanting shirts, you have until Thursday, July 17. I plan on printing and shipping the week of July 28. Once again, if you missed it, go to www.rosebudsduds.com and click on cruise apparel.

Coach Rick, I should have my order in by the 17th (it might be the 17th). It's just been crazy lately and I'm trying to find my Paypal info (haven't used it in a while). Sorry about that!

disnutz, my DD just sent an email to your DD yesterday night! Same story as above, we've just been busy with so many different things. My DD's birthday is in May but we decided to postpone the party until now because we thought a trip to the beach would be nice. So the girls came over around 4pm Saturday, I took them to see Love Guru, they slept over and then we headed to the beach the next morning at 8am. We had a great time although everyone came back quite sunburned despite lots of sun screen. It just seems to be one thing after another happening re graduation, family picnics, birthday parties, etc, but I think we're finally starting to slow down re activities so hopefully DD will be able to email more after this.

Sea-and-Ski, so glad to hear that you didn't damage those ligaments and that you will still be okay for the cruise. I think you should go with Coach Rick's suggestion and lock yourself in your room to avoid further injury; I really liked the part about the servant..I could do with that for myself now that I come to think about it minus the injury part!

4 weeks!!!!! Unbelievable!

Hi all,

I just read up on all the news here for the last 2 weeks. Glad to hear things are going well with everyone (vacations, fires, ankles, dads...)

We're doing the parks before the cruise, and I was wondering if anyone had information regarding the Disney transportation to Port Canaveral. I think we've signed up for it (I know, time to talk to the travel agent to confirm), but assuming we have, does it make sense to use Disney? The 1st cruise we took we got ourselves to the terminal nice and early and were one of the first ones onboard. This worked out great because we were able to get to the pool before it was packed (remember to carry on your swimsuits). Does anyone know if the Disney buses get you there early or late?

As I remember from last year, we got to the port about 1:30 from SSR. It's a little bit late. We are planning on doing a limo this time, as that is less expensive for 11 of us than the Disney bus.

Hi all,

Boy, what beautiful weather we're having in NJ lately.

Coach Rick....my physical therapist would definitely approve of me being locked in a room till cruise time. ;)

Disneymama.....the two times I've used DCL busses from WDW, we got to the port between 1:30-2pm. The terminal was completely empty and the Disney characters were gone. A bit of a downer. But at least we were able to walk right onto the ship and pretty much right into our room.

I'm in house cleaning mode as I've got four in-laws arriving from England next week to stay with us for two weeks. In 10 days we leave for a week at the Jersey shore. Its always so relaxing being at the shore. A week of being on the beach and eating lots of seafood and fresh vegetables. On the way down and back we stop at a farm stand that makes the BEST pies I have ever eaten. :cloud9: I look forward to eating those pies all year long.

Only 3 weeks to go before we leave for WDW. Arranging last dinner reservations and so, and then we only need to wait :) This weekend we go to DLP to say goodbye to our friends there. Will take a while before we go back there.
The morning before our cruise we'll have character breakfast at the Beach Club and take the bus there. Since we're only two that seemed the best (and easiest) option.

We're hiring a town car to go to the port; I just like to get there a little earlier so that seemed best for the 3 of us. But the Disney bus is a lot of fun and it helps build the excitement. And you never forget that first glimpse of the ship as you come close to the port area!

Willem, hope you and Steven a great time at DLP! And the character breakfast is a great way to start off the cruise!

Sea-and-Ski, you have a great time ahead of you too! Your beach week sounds fantastic! We go to Wasaga Beach here (about 1 1/2 hours north of Toronto) and it's just glorious! I always say that you can compare it to the Caribbean beaches except the sand isn't white and of course, the water isn't as blue. But the water is gorgeous all the same and food always tastes so good there. We were there last Sunday and I told my DD that it's our warmup for Castaway Cay!

Anyone remember what time the sailaway party is? I remember trying to meet up on our last cruise before muster drill, and it was just too hectic with trying to get to the room, get lunch, and get to muster, so we never made it. I was thinking if we tried to meet up just before or after the sailaway, would that work?

Also - when is everyone getting to port? Last time we got there by 10:30 but it seemed to be forever to get on (at least the kids thought so). I was debating getting there 12 or so. Wahat is everyone else thinking? We can;t board until about 12:30 right?

Found it, back on page 11 Ski-and-Sea suggested 3 pm in the Promenade Lounge, which is on deck 3 midship. Sounds like a good place and time. That should give everyone time to get on the ship, change to our special shirts have lunch, and head over.

I have finally made arrangements for the van to pick us up at 11, which means we should be at the port by noonish.

I already have that feeling like I am forgetting something. Geesh, I hate that! Last year I forgot my charger for my camcorder, but was very impressed that the two batteries lasted the entire trip. ;)

Looked it up to make sure on a recent Navigator, and yes, the drill is at 4 (that should freak out my oldest daughter - she'll be looking for the exit :rotfl2: ) Sail Away Party is at 4:30, and the most magical sound on the high seas, those golden sounds of Wish Upon A Star as we pull away from reality!:thumbsup2
