8/17/2008 Double Dip 4-day Wonder

As for packing... as long as we have passports and a credit card, everything else I remember is gravy. [translated this means "I haven't started yet"] :)

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

OMG that's my philosophy, too.

We don't fly down until the 16th. I will start packing on the 15th. I wash everyone's clothes and just transfer everything from the dryer to the suitcase.

I do have a packing list that I have refined over the years. Otherwise I'll forget some basic stuff.

This cruise is coming up so quickly. It seemed like it dragged on forever and now is making up for lost time.

Right now it seems like my life revolves around my physical therapy. I go three time a week during the week so I have to schedule everything else around it. So much for a relaxing summer.

Heading down to the Jersey shore on Saturday for a week. Just scheduled some surfing lessons for me and both kids. We enjoy it a lot.

Oh forgot to mention......on my 2006 cruise meet thread we played this wonderful game where on the day that everyone leaves to head to Florida that they post that they are on their way out the door and the last one to post has to say that they are "turning out the lights".

Dizzyworld, do you remember when we did that?

On that cruise it was me and another DISer who were "turning out the lights" at 3:00am on sailing date. Boy, did I regret flying down on the same day you sail. Never will do that again.

What a fun idea!! OK - so let's figure out who's last one out? We head down the night of Aug. 13th.

I have to admit I am a little sad - we decided not to do WDW this trip since we will be abck next spring for DD's dance group at disney. It seemed smart at the time but now I am a little blue.:sad1:

We will have a good time though - heading to Universal RPR. DS is very excited to ride Hulk - we are praying he is tall enough - it's gonna be close!!

Anyway - looks like we have some going on th 9th and some on the 13th. Who's heading out later?

I forgot about someone "turning off the lights" but I remember thinking what a neat things to do/say. We arrive the 14th.

Be careful with those surfing lessons.

WELCOME frozenmickey. I love the name.

I will start thinking in a day or two about the trip. Over the past two weeks my best friend from elementary school has been in town (from FL now) with her family. They leave today (Wed.). When they are here my time is not my own. I can wake up and head just about anywhere within a 2 hour drive space. I don't see my DH and the kids don't see their Dad sometimes for days depnding on when we get home late in the evening. It is fun and exhuasting. The kids are sleeping over tonight while the parents pack up. Her brother bought the townshouse next to his so when she visits she has a place to stay! They are unreal.

If all of this wasn't enough, my neighbor got married on Sat. Her family moved in when she was 3 years old. She is now 26. I'm sitting in the pew of the church crying more than the mother of the bride (I've known her almost as lone as the mom) as my mind ran a film through my mind of all the moments of her life I shared in and she shared in mine. I would do anything for her which leads me to what else I have been doing. I have done my best Kebler elf imitation the past two weeks. The bride saw this at another wedding and decided to do it too. In addition to the cake, there would be trays of homemade cookies for the guests. I figured at this point I've made about 20 batches of reg. choc. chip cookies, 4 batches of peanubutter choc. chip cookies, 2 batches of sugar cookies, 90+ mini pecan tarts, in addition to other test batches. A few other people also added to the cookie collection. I also made cookies for my best buddy and her brother. Tomorrow I will make the last batch of sugar cookies for my DD's friend. My kids are thrilled will all the smells in the house. It's just like Christmas. And the mixer won't get any action until Christmas after tomorrow.

At least due to the wedding a lot of clothes shopping was done. That's a plus.

Now we will just play, go to the pool, do an evening team soccer camp, then the guys will pack for their trip, and I will pull out the packing list for our trip. I too would be lost without my packing list.

I'm excited that the trip is coming up, but sad at the same time. My kids start school the Monday after we come home (Sat.). Too soon. I get so sad when they return to school. And we have one more book to read. I think it's funny that I read Walt Disney went to his daughter's school to complain that their homework was getting in the way of family time. So I guess it's been going on for a long time.

The house is very quiet for a bunch of boys and my DD in the house. Time to go see why....... Nite all. Happy packing.

I won't get them... They'll be waiting for us at the hotel, since our TA was worried we wouldn't get them in time.

I rang DCL regarding our docs, as we were worried that we wouldn't receive them on time due to us living in the UK and the fact that we are staying at BCV for 9 nights prior to cruise.

DCL CM has arranged for them to be delivered to BCV for us to pick up when we check in.

Mark

Absolutely zilch from DCL so far. But the docs will be shipped to my TA and then she drops them off at my house. So there's a few days delay right there.

Dizzyworld....I got exhausted just reading about your life this summer. Whew.

Boy, this cruise is coming up so fast. I've got to work on my door signs.

I think I'm the last one leaving for this cruise so I'll probably be the one "turning out the lights". :rotfl:

Looking forward to getting Coach Rick's shirts.

So who's up for getting together at the clubs after dinner? I am determined this year to be able to stay awake past 10pm and be a dancing queen at the clubs. Don't know about DH, though. A big dinner and a couple of drinks usually puts him right out after dinner.

My DS is really excited about being in the teen club this cruise.

Who made this sign?

Nothing here yet from DCL. We're still trying to get DME straightend out. Apparently having my DH join us is causing problems. This will teach him not to come with us, but I guess work would like to see him every once in a while.

I am starting to work on the door signs (or I might recycle a few).

Looking forward to Coach Rick's shirts too.

Maybe we will join you after dinner.

My DD is also excited about her first time in the teen club.

I am willing to try to stay up - never made it last:cool1: time!!

Is anyone else but me surprised that there aren't more double dip trip reports posted? I keep checking, but no luck.

I am trying to figure out what the rotations are, make sure pirate night is still night 2, and that we'll leave Nassau at 7. What else do we not know yet?

I made that double dip sign.......(made it a looooong time ago, like maybe a year ago).

I agree about the lack of TR's from recent double dippers. I believe there is that huge group of DISers doing the B2B this week. That should be an interesting TR.

I'm thoroughly confused about which night is pirate night. Wasn't it supposed to be on Nassau night?

This is the first cruise where I'm willing to let the kids hang out in the kids' clubs until late night so I can hit "our" clubs myself.

We're flying out the morning of August 16 so will I be the one to turn out the lights? And no cruise docs for us yet.

I have 2 questions to ask. Re the magnetic door signs, do you have to worry about the magnetic paper or magnets being close to bar codes like the ones on your passport or credit cards?

Also, I want to bring my hair dryer to the cruise because the ones in the bathrooms aren't strong enough for my liking. Is there a plug in the cabin that I can use for an extension cord or power bar? And is the plug a 2 prong or 3 prong? I can't remember from our other cruises although I do remember bringing a 3 prong extension cord on one of our cruises (could have been RCL, not DCL) and it didn't work. Does anyone know?

Sea-and-Ski, did I read right and you're going to take surfing lessons????!!!! You'd better not injure anything! Although I have to say that it sounds like a lot of fun!

I'm up to trying to stay up and go to some of the clubs. I've always missed the nightlife because I was so sleepy by 10pm, but I'm going to try and be less boring this time.

It's the first time for my DD14 for the teen club and she's excited too. Disnutuz, she really likes your DD; she said she's so funny and friendly! I'm glad they were able to finally connect!

My DD is with her dad in Washington, D.C. right now for 4 days. He likes to spend separate vacations with each of the kids so he gets quality time with them. My DD16 isn't going with his dad this year because they're saving for next year when they want to go to England! I suggested to my ex that he take both kids to England next year because there are other members of his family that want to go too (he can take DS on another trip). Then I can fly into London at the end of their trip (thus saving airfare for the 2 kids), whisk them over to Paris on the train and take the kids to Disneyland Paris! Not sure if he's going to go for that but I thought it wouldn't hurt to suggest it!

Willem, too bad that you were a little disappointed in the Enchanted fireworks at DLP but at least you've had the experience and were able to see it. And you have all the fireworks shows at WDW to look forward to!

Dizzyworld, what a lovely story about your neighbour and how nice of you to do all that baking! Truly a labour of love and the bride must have been so touched by all your efforts to contribute to her wedding.

Hi Lynda,

See my comments in red below...

We're flying out the morning of August 16 so will I be the one to turn out the lights? And no cruise docs for us yet.
None for us either and we are usually the last to receive them. This trip we are leaving on Aug 14th and staying at BCV before the cruise and then SSR after.

I have 2 questions to ask. Re the magnetic door signs, do you have to worry about the magnetic paper or magnets being close to bar codes like the ones on your passport or credit cards? It's probably not a good idea to keep them close. I have a semi-hard plastic office thingy (not the technical name ;) ) that is used to organize 8X11 files. I use it for Navigators but it also works double duty to transport my door magnets. I got it at Staples and it works like a charm. I also put any WDW maps in it so they don't get wrecked or folded.

Also, I want to bring my hair dryer to the cruise because the ones in the bathrooms aren't strong enough for my liking. Is there a plug in the cabin that I can use for an extension cord or power bar? There are two plugin areas; one at the desk and there is another one behind the TV. We bring a powerbar only because we have electronics we want to plugin. And is the plug a 2 prong or 3 prong? 3 prong I can't remember from our other cruises although I do remember bringing a 3 prong extension cord on one of our cruises (could have been RCL, not DCL) and it didn't work. Does anyone know?

I'm up to trying to stay up and go to some of the clubs. I've always missed the nightlife because I was so sleepy by 10pm, but I'm going to try and be less boring this time. We would love to join everyone. Having small kids with us has never lent itself to going out at night. But look out this trip. :yay:

Hi Lynda..................we have used a regular 2-prong extension cord without any problems. It's on our list.

The happy couple just came home from their honeymoon. I can't wait to see them. I've seen tons of wedding photos thanks the digital world.

I am making cookies for s few of the children's friends. I felt bad that they couldn't eat their fill of the ones going to the wedding. It will be nice on the cruise to have someone make things for me.

That's nice of your ex do to the different trips with your children. I hope you can get the trip for next year to work out. Sounds like fun.

Summer is going way too quickly. Back to door signs.
