I've told my son I can't help him with math anymore. They don't do math like I was taught. And even though I come up with the right answer, since I didn't do it the 'new' way, it's wrong. :confused3

I stopped helping DD at the pre-algebra level.....

The last math i had to take was in 1990. (College Trig) and I don't think i could help her much. (There's a reason i'm not an Engineer)

Math help is my DH's job......(He's better at it)

Mine did too, until they got stingy and decided to spend all their money buying up other companies and leaving us lowly staff to fend for ourselves.....can't even buy a pen and paper

Oh, don't tell me about stingy. I'm stuck flying coach to the UK b/c they've changed our policies. Ugh.

:wizard:

No, it's another sign that you are turing into your parents!

DW and I were shocked the first time we went to a Sonic together while driving to NM (they didn't have them on the East Coast). Not only did the TEENAGED clerk roller skate out but she made correct change without haviung to use a calculator!

Granted, I'll sometimes have trouble with some basic math calculations and I can't even think of the last time I used the integral of a curve to find the area under it. But I have time to get it back before DS has to learn the New Everyday Layman's Math

Tell me about it. I spent a lot of time learning that the integral of 1 over x dx = ln(x). I've never had anyone come up to me on the street and ask me "Sir, do you happen to know the integral of 1 over x dx?"

More useless knowledge.
:wizard:

I have it too.

We will be ready to rock out on 80's night...or was that 90's?...going to Google....it was 1984...so yes, we will be ready to rock out on 80's night...

Why are those 2 decades such a blur???

J.R. & Enna - I just noticed the :cake:in your sigs!!

Oh, I'm so gonna add it!

I like :cake:

ROFL.... a co-worked just went to replace the water cooler bottle. We just got a new cooler and it came with this nifty cap that you place on the full bottle to it doesn't dump everywhere, he just noticed it and after changing the bottle remarked "Well, that was a piece of cake." I couldn't help it, I just blurted out "I like cake!" :rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl2:

:cake:

As for smilie assignments, I'm choosing smilie #41... cause it currently reflects my demeanor.

Perhaps the same reason they're a blur for me......:drinking1 :drinking1 :drinking1

Can you imagine the waitstaff on this cruise muttering, "What is it with these people? They all say they like cake." :cake:

Oh...for smilie assignments, I simply must have :cool2:

Ummm, aren't you a rocket scientist?? :scared1:

:rotfl: Yeah well there is that. Engineer actually. The difference? Engineers are supposed to take the social/human implications of their work into consideration--rather than just making a bet with his buddies on whether or not the device they created will set the atmosphere on fire! :headache:

In either case (scientist, engineer) it doesn't matter about the math...that's what the computers are for! :thumbsup2 LOL I had a coworker who used MATLAB to help her figure out her monthly budget for utility bills, loans etc. :sad2: Friggin' $20,000+ computational system and she uses it to total her utility bills! pirate:

Speaking of the 80's...I have a bunch of songs on my IPod from a CD collection called "Living In Oblivion: Songs of the 80's" :lmao: :lmao:

Such as:
I Wanna Be a Cowboy - Boys Don't Cry
Dance Hall Days - Wang Chung
Come On Eileen - Dexy's Midnight Runners
Under the Milky Way - The Church
Tenderness - General Public
Mexican Radio - Wall of Voodoo
Promises, Promises - Naked Eyes

And so many, many more...:rotfl:

OMG, I'm old....:scared1: :lmao: :lmao:

What's even sadder is that I can remember most of the videos for them way back when MTV showed music videos. I love the bar-b-queing iguana scene from Mexican Radio.

Happen to see this during skimming a lunch today by Todd and thought that it would be fun to do when I got home.

Evening in Rome - Dean Martin (Lizzie McGuire Movie)Les Poissons - Rene Aberjonois
I missed it again - Phill Collins
The Lazarius Heart - Sting
Tunnel of Love - Bruce Springstein
Homeless - Paul Simon
Things can only get better - Howard Jones
My shinning hour - Frank Sinatra
All the time - Barry Manilow
Stupid Cupid - Patsy Cline

I have GOT to get some Dino downloaded onto my IPOD! Another voice that makes me melt.

Many thanks to my oldest DD - Megan - 20 who without her help none of y'all people would have seen this! :lmao: LOL - J/K

Hopes this helps! Oooppsss - 12:19 gotta go

Ok all - having problems displaying - if anyone can tell me how to link websites - would greatly appreciate - on my way to ask Lisa for help -

Gosh - sometimes I feel like such a goober!
OK all - I tried looking up help in photobucket - after 10 pages can't find the post that I had the first time I logged into help. Can anyone walk me thru linking a website on here so that I may post the HoJo pictures I took?

:headache:  :sad2:
ok me again - figured out how to post the pictures but they're really tiny and I have a sub-album in photobucket which if I can only figure out how to link you all can access them. If any one can help would be greatly appreciated!

I don't know why, but after reading these posts made about 1 hr apart....I chuckled! Not laughing AT you mind you....laughing WITH you! ;) I wish I could help, but I can barley get by with posting images.

It should be an all girl final this year, I really enjoy listening to Melinda, what a talent. ;)

ITA! I think it's between her & Lakisha!

yes, we do "Everyday Math" here in our district too. I am not sure what my son is learning. When he went to Christian school 1st and 2nd grade, he was horrible in math. He came home last week with his ISAT grade and is in the 99th percentile. So either 'everyday math' is working or it is teaching him how to take standardized tests.

Considering we were cooking dinner together last night and he asked me if 1 cup was the same thing as 1 pound, I am assuming the latter.

:wizard:

Oh my that's funny! :lmao:
