Then please say an extra prayer for my kiddos tomorrow... wish us luck... something! Because tomorrow night is going to be a big one for us... especially Ruby. It is going to be her FIRST TIME babysitting her siblings while we go out. We're going to our long awaited evening out to see Cirque Du Soleil, and it's in Dallas so about an hour away. Now she's watched them for short periods of time- like say she's doing homework and one has cheer practice and DH is still at work- I'll let her stay home alone or watch one of her siblings. She's watched them like when we were moving over here, stuff like that- but those were short periods of time and with us very close by in case of emergency.

I can't wait to hear how your date night went. I am sure everything went well with the kids!:goodvibes

bowl_dusk_low.jpg

Every year for the past 12-15 years I've put together groups of friends, family and neighbors together for outings at the Hollywood Bowl. We gather (12 - 60 folks) for dinner with either catered food or pot luck before hand then enjoied a concert in the Bowl. Obviously with a DIS group we'd do a catered meal. We often sit together but that is not a requirement as our group seats can easily be split... and as a group subscriber for over a decade I get the 1st distribution on schedule for the next year... well before it is published and ofetn an incomplete schedule as they offer us what they have as soon as it formulates.

So... I was thinking I could take an interest list on folks interested in hanging out in the hollywood area for the afternoon... followed by most likely a catered picnic ($8-12 per adult, $4-6 per child age 3-12 is sufficient) at the Hollywood Bowl. Generally I suggest a couple different types of cuisine and the group VOTES on what they want in advance. Then we go in for a concert. The committments would come in January and the pricing on seats would range from as low as $6 in the back up to $110 if anyone wanted box seats. I've had everything from the back to the garden boxes and I'm happy anywhere. However, I must confess that with kids we tend to sit futhest to the front or back... as the folks in the middle are slightly more stuffy with potential disturbances from the youngsters.

August is generally near the end of the season - and fireworks at the bowl are common on 1/3rd of the weekend evenings.

So... then it is parking and a show that runs til typically 10:30 and out by 11pm. Not sure if we'd do a friday or saturday... seein' as we sail on sunday (am I right?). I think a friday would be better even though some folks may have to contend with traffic. I would have to dream up a "recommended list of proper diversions for concert-goers so they do not get entangled in LA traffic snafus. IE... I would draw up hang out points and times to be here or there - so as to enable making the dinner and show on time. OR... we might do something else for supper.

I guess this is something we'll have to add into the list of DIS diversions precruise... Anyone who has any interest should PM me so I can plan on it... like I'm gonna be rushed if I don't hear from folks soon, eh?

That sound very neat Crash. What is usually on the venue? The place looks beautiful.

OH no...

I must be VERY far behind. I'm reading Caroline's replies as a quick way to Ketchup on the highlights from the past 24 hours.

Hey! I am, for all intensive purposes, caught up now! ;) I did get a day behind, but things have slowed down to a much better pace. :upsidedow

Good Morning Everyone:surfweb:

Hope everyone has a great Sunday!

Getting ready to watch:happytv: :coffee: the Academy Awards tonite. I have seen a lot of the moviespopcorn:: nominated and it seems like it is going to be a good show. Unfornunately for me is that I always fall asleep during the last 15 minutes, the most important part of the show!!!

I will start making and drinking my Eight O' Clock coffee early. I am sure a lot of people in NY, NJ and Ct know of this coffee.

Let the Oscars begin!!!

Karen

Isn't that A&P coffee?

DS did his first derby this year (he is a Wolf cub, but there wasn't a Tiger group at his school last year). It was a little weird - my father is our "primary" cub scout person in the family - he is the one who really wanted DS to do scouting (DF is an Eagle scout from the 50's). They handed out the kits at a pack meeting in mid-December - right in the midst of the holiday bustle. Immediately after Christmas (the 27th) my parents took DS on an intergenerational Elderhostel trip to Mexico. When they got back, DS was literally home for 6 days before our cruise and the derby was while we were gone. Even with all of this, DS REALLY wanted to make his car. My father and DS actually managed to make it during those 6 days between trips and one of DS's friends from his Den raced it for him. It didn't do all that well, but all involved seemed to enjoy it! :rotfl: :rotfl2: :thumbsup2

pdarrah (Pamela)

We tell our Scouts, just paint the block of wood and nail the wheels on if you don't have time to cut the car -- and some do and still have fun. We try to avoid the 'down and derby' syndrome in our Pack of the parents making these fancy cars. That's why we started the 'no rules' parents' race so the Dads can get that out of their system.

Well Good afternoon everyone ...I know I havent been around much cause the MIL has been in town and they left for Frisco yesterday , and Today I got the News that my real Father past away ...We were never really close but I knew him in my teens and early 20's ...I hadnt spoke to him in 14 years cause we had a fallen out ...I wont be around much over the Next week , I am flying up to Buffalo for the service on Monday , hopefully I will be back tuesday or Wednesday. I need to go back for myself for closure , I'm not going back for him or relatives as I have not really talked to anyone in that time as well ....I have mixed feelings , but I think I have to say goodbye for myself ...Melissa or the kids never knew him ....If I sound like I am rambling im sorry , I have had a world of emotions over the last few hours , but I knew I could come here and at least escape it for a moment ....Thanks For listening ...

:grouphug: Todd... I hope you find the peace and closure you are seeking. :flower3:

John, I think that the villas they are doing at AKL sleep more than the other DVC's.

I would hope they are getting the message, but by now, it's really a little late for us. It would have been a decent investment ten years ago when we first looked at it.

That is so cute. But I know I definetly wouldn't have made that for a cake walk. I see why your DS was soo disappointed with the cake he won. Did they use it for a special prize on the cw or just as a normal choice?

Just a normal choice. A lot of the boys put an awful lot of special effort into their cakes. One kid made a "Big Mac" cake, another did Soldier Field with little players. It was a lot of fun.

I assumed that the person who brought the store-bought cake may have run into trouble either with time or had an issue with the cake not working that they had made.

I didn't really care, but I think our Committee Chair didn't explain it well to the boys that they would not be bringing home their own cake.

I've been snubbed!! I never liked these Hollywood award shows anyway. They are so political. But it would have been an honor just to be nominated. Sniff.

Good Morning Karen

Although I'm not a coffee drinker, I do remember seeing the Eight O'Clock coffee bags in the store when I would go food shopping with my mom. Funny thing is, I love the smell of coffee, I just can't stand the taste of it. I've tried drinking it from time to time, but can't get past the first sip. I make coffee for Angelina and that kid drinks it black, no sugar or cream for that kid, just like my mom. Hazel will drink coffee every now and then. Me, I'm a tea drinker, hot or cold, as long as it's tea, it's for me!!!!!!!!!

I just bought Eight O'Clock last week for the first time ever. Haven't opened the bag yet. I grew up on this coffee because it was what my mom bought at the old A&P.

I bought it as part of my save-for-the-trip-of-a-lifetime-plan. It was $4 cheaper than the bag of Starbucks I usually buy.

My wife cannot stand the taste of coffee but loves when I make it as well. I wonder why that is?

I've pulled my oldest son over to the dark (roasted) side. SWMBO drinks nothing but Diet Coke -- no tea, either.

You have also been invited to the post awards party at Elton Johns place tell him Andrew sent you from the UK!

One of my favorites was Chock Full o Nuts. When I was working in NYC, there used to be tons of these places. My favorite was the datenut sandwich. There was a shop downstairs where I worked last and always bought it for breakfast.

Maybe it's over sensitive taste buds or something??? :confused3

We bought Angelina one of those single serving size coffee makers, it's ideal for this house!!! :thumbsup2 I'll fix her a cup of coffee in the morning before she goes to school, gives her that kick start she needs to get the day going!!! ;)
