And on #4 - that's cool that you still have a 93 Mazda Astina serving you so long. I still have a 95 Maxima that we use from time to time. It's a bargain to keep around as a set of wheels to use for some kinds of trips. AND - my regular ride is a 98 Lexus which is probably much older then most folks prefer. BUT I don't care much. THey're old but serve well as reasonable transportation. And BTW - I was not familiar with the Astina - so i googled it (image posted above) and I'm impressed - it's got nicer lines and style then I guessed - especially for a 14 year old car! It's really got beautifully classic lines - as opposed to SOME car designs which are definately dated - or out of date! The nose of the astina reminds me of the current Acuras' ... and he raised hood lines sort of reminds me of the current BMW designs on the road.

HOWEVER... I must confess to looking in recent months at cars - new and used with some bit of semi-serious interest. Alas, the Maxima may be transferred to my sister - who could use a reliable car for transportation.

My car looks like this -

Sporty yet practical. I went for the Mazda as my Mum and brother both had them when I was looking and found them to be very reliable. Mum's one is a 1988 model and still gets admiring looks from the young'uns as its a sporty model too. It was my brother's and has mags - which she curses every time she has to buy tires.

Its not unusual to have cars on the road of that vintage, as I'm sure you can iimagine the cost to ship a car from the other side of the world is expensive so it makes it pretty pricey to buy (compared with other countries). We don't have any car manufacturing here so they all get imported.

Most cars are used cars from Japan so we have pretty much all asian models.

Keep those fingers crossed for me tormorrow - I have another job interview. It's getting a little weird at the current place, since we've decided who's replacing me & her replacement started today. I'm dealing, but I'll be happier once I know where I'm going to land.

Tom, I'd envy you your cruise, but we're going to Kauai from the 21st thru the 28th so I guess I can't complain too much.

Came home tonight from work to find out that my next door neighbor of 15 year had committed suicide. :sad2: Husband and father of 2 college age girls that he loved dearly. This was a happy go lucky man that would give you the shirt off of his back. We are all having a hard time trying to understand this.

Oh Roger, I am so sorry. :grouphug: :grouphug:

My GF committed suicide some years ago. He was estranged from my mother my entire life - so it didn't really affect my brother or myself. He called my mom wanting to reconcile. My DD and DGM (she lived with us) didn't want her to go - they were concerned for mom's safety. Anyway, she went. Talked to him for a bit, and when he started to rant at her decided to leave. He followed her out, cursed her, spat on her, went inside and well, she heard the gun shot. She called the police, but stayed outside. He had hung plastic in the room to make clean up easy.

:sad2: He needed mom to make him angry enough to do the deed. :sad2: Mom struggled with it for a while, and came to the conclusion that she is not, and never was, responsible for his happiness. Still, it's a crummy thing to do to your child. Family opinion is that he was planning on taking her with him.

That is very true. I was on Zoloft for several years before I had my 4th child. When I went to the Dr and told him my symtoms and he talked to me for a while....he looked me straight in the eye and said *You're depressed.* I replied *No. I'm not I have a truly wonderful life. No worries at all, a Husband that thinks the world of me and three great kids.* He told that had nothing to do with my depression that it is a chemical problem. It turned out that many of the people on my fathers side of the family have this problem.
Medication made a world of difference -- I had no idea how depressed I was until I felt better!!! It turned out that dh thought that I was planning on leaving him I had become so withdrawn. :sad2: To the rest of the world I seemed fine.......
There are some days, weeks, months....that I think maybe I should go back on medication but, for now I am just fine.
I didn't talk about this for a long time but, I have come to realize that alot of people think they are alone in their feelings and if hearing my story helps one person to realize that they are NOT alone then it is worth telling.

:grouphug: Thank you for the courage to share. :grouphug:

Okay I know about cable hook-up, DSL but what is fiber optic???? Who is it by and what is the cost??? :confused3 If you don't mind me asking.:rolleyes1

Cable works over the lines that also carry cable TV signal. DSL works over the lines that also carry telephone. Both are usually copper based wire called co-axial (co-ax for short) until you get to the main phone switch where fibre optic takes over in the main trunk. SureWest laid fibre optic cable in our neighborhood from the main phone switch to the houses. (Actually, it's a whole duplicate system.) So, rather than carrying data (phone, TV, and internet) over copper wire, we have a choice to get it off of fiber optic.

Fiber optic is basically a bunch of wires made out of glass, and the data is carried using light, not electrical impulses (like in copper). Thus, the data moves at the speed of light, not the speed of electrons. Which is still really, really, fast regardless. But because of the higher speeds, more data can be carried in a quicker time - generally giving us the same speed and bandwidth as corporations who are tied directly into the main switches. (We often get T1 speeds at the house.) We also use their service for phone, but not for TV. (Tried it, didn't like it.)

The cost is the same as you'd expect to pay for DSL. Maybe a little less since we bundle it with phone.

I bet that REALLY works at live auctions.

Hi M!! I missed you. Glad you popped in.

Yes, I think it would work particularly well if you look like I do - scares away all the other bidders. :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Fish is probably named Sashimi.

Ack! Look at the time. Gotta hit the hay. Catch you later!

Usually I have to search a bit for the right joke, but this was the first one that came up. Somehow it seemed to fit...

pirate: pirate: pirate: pirate:
A pirate was standing on the crow's nest and then he slipped and fell. He fell through the first floor, then he fell through the second floor, then he fell through the third floor and hit the bottom floor of the ship!

The first mate comes up to him and asks "Are ye all right matey?"

The pirate replies, "Arrr, yes... I've been through hardship before!"
pirate: pirate: pirate: pirate:

Enjoy.

Paula,

I was just reading a HOT RODDING magazine that had a photo essay on a Rodders' gathering in NZ. They had some really terriffic custom hot rods with descriptive captions citing the difficulty these enthusiasts had being so distant from traditional sources of salvagable vehicles and parts! SO I found a curious corollary between your comments and the article in the HOT ROD magazine!

I don't know much about hotrods but I'm guessing if they take Japanese car parts they'd be spoilt for choice :rotfl2:

OK...

... just booked another cruise to go on for this October - in approximately 4 weeks in fact. I can't complain - my Dad is picking up the tab. If you though I was cheap - my Dad is an even BIGER skin flint = the cruise is just a 4 niter out of LA. The last cruise I picked up for HIM was an Alaskan one where I paid for everyhing. Sigh... I guess I should not complain. It's so funny though. I told him i saw his cruise and it was the cheapest one I had seen in a long time - and he said "lets go... I'll even pay for you to go"... to which I said I might not be able to go - too many things going on - and he replied "if you don't go I won't go"... and he's picking up the tab for some relatives on my step Mothers' side who he's hosting.

At any rate - it's a little Monday to friday one.

Woo Hooo!!!

Congrats there Tom!!! Our upcoming 4 day cruise is also a Monday to Friday sailing out of Port Canaveral however. We are so looking forward to getting away for a few days!!! Have a great time!!! ;)

OK...

I know this is not relating to the PCREPO - but it IS travel related.

Anyone else make precruise ressies? I am thinking about the Sheraton airport (free airport shuttle) for $60 on priceline. Would like something close in price with airport and cruise port shuttles!

Wooo Hoooo!

I just got the Sheraton at FLL airport precruise for DEC 1st on priceline for $55! It's a 3.5 star with free airport shuttle and the Sheraton and Orbitz sites are asking a minimum of $189 per nite + tax and fees (Orbitz)! Priceline adds fees and taxes of $13.91 for a grand total of $68.91. WHAT A BARGAIN! I am gonna cancel my 2.5 star La Quinta which I had reserved for $104 plus taxes.

THANK YOU Megan! Hope ta see ya there or on the ship!

The only thing about these pics, we are going on RCCL, not DCL...........:sad1:

:grouphug: ...to roger. [ it is self evident by your postings, of being
a top~notch kind of guy....who cares about his fellow man]. so i am
hoping you are finding comforts from those here offering their verbal
insights..& ,
as you try to cope with the unthinkable...:flower3:

while i have no answers, to these very tough questions, this happens

to be the line of work...i've been involved with for the past 15 years.

my guess...something very "heavy & life changing" was occupying alot
on his final decision. it is a terrible lost....for his family, his friends, and
the community.

i was most impress, with the ways others have expressed their desires
to support you in your time of need. their stories were very inspirational,
& educational..to us all. [ one of the primary interventions i begin with,
--informing clients, the differences between us...there are none.]

help...is simply finding others we can trust and respect our ways of
being...even if we are having trouble with our feelings. human beings,
are very complicated...by our abilites to manipulate and imagine the
wrold/s we are lving in...* being a happy person..in no ways..immune
us from...daily stressors and/or undesirable changes., altering the
dedicate balance of..our self preceptions...finding otehrs to hold onto,
is as critical need..as food/water...whether we recognize it or not, can
so leave us vulernable to..self destruction...{ be it death ..or chosing
lifestyles..that are not in our best interests} .

wow! look @ what..i 've learn...from those needing my profesional
assistance?...:rolleyes1 , * mental health 101= we all have mental
health..and we all will experince problems....be they..normal or
abnormal...fyi, because, i have been thru...a many "major" stressor,
from an early age...confronted me, with the ways to seek coping
skills...growing up.....the key was not in my own abilities, but finding
great wisdom..from those caring about their daily routines, and
isolated by age [ my paper boy's days]. ironic, my instructors, begged
me...to do mental health...however, i wanted no part of....only years
later & fate....."put me in my place"..now,..iam in awe, how learning
these basic...of skills.....has also..reflected bakwards...& effected my
own meanings...for a happy life...* i would not have had such wonderful
discoveries....without...doing/learning, the job i doing today. isn't
that a "kicker"?

life ..is sooo...awesome....in just our existing...that we often miss the
daily miracles ...we are "gifted" with...., a good example was the story,
of the lost diamond..$ wised = very little..but emotional became an
experienced that we shared..as a FAMILY.....but was i happy..@ the time?
did i realized what was unfolding?...nooooo - i was....being stupid...in
blamng and bickering.....just like when we were tossing everything,
out besides the interstate.....the outcomes..are just like sports final
points..differnces, the true meanings..are from sharing/growing and
accepting the things..we can change..and learning the things we can't.

..reality..& its principles..make up..my #1 interventions, why? ..quite
simply..they work toward the desired objective..for the client's benefits..
..i am very "strong' in my sucide presentations...first, and foremost..
we are serious..about the subject..cos it is a reality!...secondly, any
of us, can become a victim...[ some in-deeds..chose it as puinishing others
that they have lost control...over, never understanding their lack of
knowledge....] . however, i hope by presenting..this view , it can help
support your needs...as these things are true....there lies glimmer of
hope....sucide...for all its destruction, can be treated....before reaching
the final/undesirable outcome..if the person is recognized....under
stress/planning...to a full recovery. :)

p.s.......if you was to ask, what's the best secret for living a longer
life? [esp. those with diabetes..or heart problems].....washing hands...
& finding somthing "happy"..in every day....even eating a favorite candy
bar....[or half of one :rolleyes1 ].
