I just got the Sheraton at FLL airport precruise for DEC 1st on priceline for $55! It's a 3.5 star with free airport shuttle and the Sheraton and Orbitz sites are asking a minimum of $189 per nite + tax and fees (Orbitz)! Priceline adds fees and taxes of $13.91 for a grand total of $68.91. WHAT A BARGAIN!

Great Deal!:cool1: I am a fan of both Priceline AND Sheraton Properties. Another Sheraton that's popular in Ft. Lauderdale for pre/post cruise is the Sheraton Yankee Clipper. It has the Wreck Bar which was featured in the movie "Analyze That" (Robert DeNiro & Billy Crystal) with "Mermaids" swimming behind the bar.

Roger,

very sorry to hear about your neighbor. Our prayers are with you.

Hi Everyone!

Have been busy lately.

I'm studying for my recertification exam next month. I forgot how hard it is to sit and study for a few hours a day. Especially with children in the house.

My exam is on November 3rd. I have to review all of EM in a month.

On a happier note! My Barbossa sword came yesterday. It's really cool. Now I have to convert it to a six inch sword like Todd's.

I think I will need help Todd.

I also received my final frock coat fabric yesterday. It's a real good match to the one in the movie. I need to dye it to the right color though. We need a new washing machine anyway.

Hope to get to chat this week. Have been missing much due to work.

Have a great daypirate:

Steph that was very brave of you to share & I agree that's it's always nice to hear that you're not alone with feelings of depression. Like you I feel like I have a great life, DH, kids, etc. but I get to the point sometimes that I'm so overwhelmed by everything I have to do that I become almost paralyzed & I don't do anything at all! It's tough to even drag myself out of bed some days. The problem is, I'm also very high strung & quick to get agitated (I don't call myself allshookup for nothing!) So when the doctor offered me a drug to get me going in the morning, I ended up flying high & bopping around the kitchen! I think I scared DH! The doctor seemed perplexed on whether to give me something to perk me up or quiet me down! :upsidedow I just decided that I wouldn't take anything at all...for now anyway. I just continue to struggle to get myself going! :coffee:

Hey, you're describing me. ;) The Zoloft helped with that ALOT! LOL!

I know what you mean about some days being a struggle but, it is easier once you start reconizing *it*. kwim?

hello everyone! i've been reading and reading and reading....well, you all get the point! LOL! i've not been able to ketchup in a very long time, so i figured tonite i would try really hard.
first off i wanted to say....:grouphug: :grouphug: to roger and all others that have been affected by suicides. my bro gave us a scare at one point, so i realize how close to home it can hit. i'm so glad he got the help he needed!

so, what are all the plans being made for TOAL? i've been outta the loop for so long that i feel :scared: !! i need to get back into planning mode! i see quite a few must have gotten their plane tix already?
what was the verdict on the tuxes? i saw a post about that...but must have skipped too many pages in ketching up. better to buy? rent? bring one with you?
what are the ladies doing about formal wear? 2 diff dresses? so confused as to what i'm going to need for this trip!

Well in our case, DH owns a tux & even though it may be a pain to pack...it's not any worse than pirate costumes, cocktail dresses, shoes & more shoes! I have a feeling he'll be wearing it for the semi-formal & formal nights so he's all set. DS grew out of his, so I'll have to go out & buy him a new one!

CarnivalParadise01.jpg

OK...

... just booked another cruise to go on for this October - in approximately 4 weeks in fact. I can't complain - my Dad is picking up the tab. If you though I was cheap - my Dad is an even BIGER skin flint = the cruise is just a 4 niter out of LA. The last cruise I picked up for HIM was an Alaskan one where I paid for everyhing. Sigh... I guess I should not complain. It's so funny though. I told him i saw his cruise and it was the cheapest one I had seen in a long time - and he said "lets go... I'll even pay for you to go"... to which I said I might not be able to go - too many things going on - and he replied "if you don't go I won't go"... and he's picking up the tab for some relatives on my step Mothers' side who he's hosting.

At any rate - it's a little Monday to friday one.

Woo Hooo!!!

mainpic2.jpg

Woo hoo!!! Congrats! :thumbsup2

Lessee...

We've decided to have a princess night on one of the formal nights - tiaras & gloves all around for the ladies. There was some talk of having a Hawiian shirt day/night, but that's still up in the air.

Tuxes, the verdict is still out (at least in our house). DH owns one, because every man should, but with all the pirate costumes and needing 2 formal gowns for me & DD, we're still on the fence about whether it's better to spend the money to rent or to use up the space in the suitcase... I suspect it will come down to how well the tails fit when the time comes.

Pirate costumes definately come, but man, those boots take up a lot of space. I still haven't seen the 3rd movie, but I'm hoping for inspiration for me & DD from it... I'll have to go back and look at things with my costumer's eye to figure out what we're going to do.

I'm envious of those who can pick up airfare now... I figure we'll get it sometime in late June from here to LA & MCO back here. We've got a place to stay in Santa Monica (and friends to drive us), so we're not worried about hotel rooms.

Keep those fingers crossed for me tormorrow - I have another job interview. It's getting a little weird at the current place, since we've decided who's replacing me & her replacement started today. I'm dealing, but I'll be happier once I know where I'm going to land.

Tom, I'd envy you your cruise, but we're going to Kauai from the 21st thru the 28th so I guess I can't complain too much.

Keeping my fingers crossed for ya!!! Good luck! :wizard:

As far as I know there was no damage reported. The location was too far south from NZ on uninhabited islands. It was barely even felt in Dunedin which is the biggest city closest to the epicentre.

We are right on the fault line so earthquakes are very common here and all buildings are built to survive a decent jolt.

Also as the country is sparsely populated (only 4 million people) the building tend to be single story for the most part. Even in cities, very few buildings are multistory. I think the tallest building in the city I live is a mere 20 floors.

Chances of damage are fairly slim other than the odd ornament leaping off a shelf. :)

That's good news! :)

Just to tell you how much fun he had....he just booked the same cruise for January with his new girlfriend. They got an OV for $528.00 total! Can't beat that price! Of course he doesn't have another cruise to compare it to, but my DH does & he was amazed at how nice a cruise it was for cheap money. :thumbsup2

Hey, you're describing me. ;) The Zoloft helped with that ALOT! LOL!

Thanks for the info -- unfortunately I could not get the WMRT code to work... BUT still 30 bucks is cheaper than 3 transferrs with DCL.

IMPORTANT NEWS !!!!!!!!!!

I just booked my one-way rental on thrifty for port to MCO for one day

and got a SUV for only $30.49 per day using no codes / WMRT code brought it down to $27.44

RUN PROBABLY NOT MANY AT THIS RATE!!!!!!

Wow!!! That is a great rate Kristina.:thumbsup2 I guess we are just doing DCL transfers because it is just the two of us. Not worth the aggravation or the strength to carry all our suitcases.;)

I will be keeping everything crossed for you new job interview.:goodvibes Hurry and find a new job so you will make sure you get enough vacation time to take off for the TOAL.:flower3:

To rent a Tux or to buy a Tux is a great debate!!! :confused3 I am not sure what to do. I saw a great one at Off the Rack but by the time we bought the accessories it was over $350. Off the Rack also had some for $700 with out all the extras. DH still wants to wear his black suit but he sure looked handsome in the tux.:cloud9: :cloud9:

Cable works over the lines that also carry cable TV signal. DSL works over the lines that also carry telephone. Both are usually copper based wire called co-axial (co-ax for short) until you get to the main phone switch where fibre optic takes over in the main trunk. SureWest laid fibre optic cable in our neighborhood from the main phone switch to the houses. (Actually, it's a whole duplicate system.) So, rather than carrying data (phone, TV, and internet) over copper wire, we have a choice to get it off of fiber optic.

Fiber optic is basically a bunch of wires made out of glass, and the data is carried using light, not electrical impulses (like in copper). Thus, the data moves at the speed of light, not the speed of electrons. Which is still really, really, fast regardless. But because of the higher speeds, more data can be carried in a quicker time - generally giving us the same speed and bandwidth as corporations who are tied directly into the main switches. (We often get T1 speeds at the house.) We also use their service for phone, but not for TV. (Tried it, didn't like it.)

The cost is the same as you'd expect to pay for DSL. Maybe a little less since we bundle it with phone.

Ack! Look at the time. Gotta hit the hay. Catch you later!

Wow Esteri, I actually learned a lot of info from you.:thumbsup2 :cool1:
To add cable hook-up to our computer is about $46 a month more and we already use Comcast company for our TV. DSL is about $25 a month but I have to change phone companies. My phone company is Comcast too so Comcast does not offer DSL. It is such a mess.:sad2: I just hate to pay $46 a month for me to just play on the internet.:headache:

DH has a at T1 hook-up at work which I know what that means thanks to you. Now I know why he gets so frustrated with our computer at home. Dial-up is slow compared to his work computer.

You're RIGHT! Your price of $528 beats my price of $530.18 for 2 this october! RATS! If I had only managed to shve off $3 more then "I" could have calimed to have had the lowest priced deal!!! <chuckles> SO ... ye GOT me!

The price is right.......Free:rotfl2: :rotfl2: Sounds like any cruise is better than no cruise.:woohoo:

I must confess Cheryl... I'm spoiled as Alicia's company reimburses us for the expense of our Cable Modem. We get about $46-49 or so refunded every month... hmm.... wait a minute.... I've been paying for the cable bill all this time and Alicia has been pocketing her company reimbursement all this time! Factoring in the 12 years shes' been there - and the investment income compounding I could have had .. lets see ... 3 times two carry the seven .... ARRRGH! I'm "out" 3 million pesos! <chuckles> Good thing she's me very best friend and spouse - otherwise I'd be reaching fer my baseball bat about now. OK... if not my baseball bat - at least I'd be flashing though sour facial expressions and heavy dramatic breathing about now, followed by some sinister chuckling.

And MIKE....

I just NOTICED your new siggy with the "is this gloating" remark. And may I say "no" ... it is NOT gloating if you keep the size under "6" and not animate the thing. So go ahead... center the double pirate and "is this gloating" .... and go ahead and bold face it with perhaps a nice bright RED color!

< heavy "swabbie" chuckling >

The TOAL is not negotiable - I'm going. Any place that I actually want to work at will understand that.

Thanks for the finger crossing - I was told that I'll be asked back for a 2nd interview sometime next week. These folks are great & even if the money wasn't as good as it is I think I'd want to work for them. I'm still sending out resumes, but hoping that something breaks soon.

Yanno - you're not help him any Tom. He & the dog may be shareing sleeping space in the near future. 2 pirate: in less than 30 posts...

Hmmmm... Can I borrow that baseball bat??

Sara:

May I reaffirm wishes for "breaking a leg" on the next stage of your interview. It sounds like a good company in light of your praise and tolerance of a mild pay cut.

:surfweb:

AND.... may I suggest you consider - you've got 2,849 (two thousand - eight hundred, and FORTY NINE) postings on the DIS compared to your husbands lowly 204 (almost 14 to 1) ... and as the senior DIS member in your household -desist from punishing your poor loyal swabbie spouse - it's not all his fault that with only 204 postings to his name he's captured two out of two pirate sprint attempts!... and I believe you have... ("ahem").... none (??). And left you uninformed of the ensuing sprint last time out. He is a stout and loyal swabbie after all. GO ahead - let him gloat a little... he's a SWABBIE after all... It's after he gets 6 or 7 pirate sprints in a row that we'll all begin to wonder... eh?

So - Go MIKE Go!

GO - MIKE - GO!

77,000 has YOUR name on it!

Ya, ya...

For SWABBIES it's all about the numbers! Color me not surprised.

The scary thing about all my posts is that most of them (the exception being a very occasional fluff) are actually saying something to someone or contributing to a conversation. I'm not a big fan of the "me, too" post.

I suppose I can support Mike in the pirate:s - seeing as how they're in the family and all.

OK... gotta run now....

I'm picking up my older daughter early cuz today is free admission day at the page Museum - I save $9!
and I wanna side step traffic if possible - waiting til 2:35 to pick her up means school and freeway traffic!

TTFN!

Thank you Mary, M, Shannon, Esteri and Pete for your kind thoughts. Lil'Grumpy thank you for your poignant insight.

Hi guys.

Anyone here a Princeton Alum? Anyone have a family member had attend Princeton?

Tyreak and I attended a Princeton info meeting Sunday afternoon. I checked out their site before hand. I almost passed out when I saw the price of tuition. :scared1:

Tyreak wasn't really interested, (has ignored everything he's received from them:confused3 ) but decided he wanted to attend the meeting. He looked bored out of his mind the whole time.

However, when the meeting ended he looked at me as "I think I want to go there." We spoke with a few grads that were there and Tyreak is now hooked.

If he's accepted, tuition won't be an issue.:cheer2: They have grants in place to ensure that all eligible students will be meet the tuition obligations.

If anyone has any tips/words of wisdom about Princeton, please share them.

Thanks.

Oh, he doesn't graduate until 2009 so we still have time to figure things out.

Wow Princeton! I can only imagine how proud you would be if he got in an succeeded there. It is very prestegious.

I am not an alum... Alas, I went to State University of NY at Binghamton

Not about Princeton, per say, since I graduated from Mills College. Mills is also a private school (women only in undergrad), and I went through all the paperwork and financial aid stuff. Make sure you meet all the deadlines for financial aid. That can't be stressed enough. I was already financially independant from my folks by the time I went to college, so I didn't need to worry about their numbers. Be prepared to have some fairly serious student loans by the time he graduates (even with the financial aid).
