This just blew me away http://music.yahoo.com/read/news/49405149 the amount being paid in some places is just...(insert adjective of choice here):scared1:

Well that is half the price of our cruise I guess there is no limit to a parents love:love: or not wanting to break a promise to thier kids :music:

Crazy...Nuts... or.........!!!! That is just a few of the adjectives I can think of.  I can understand not disappointing your child but to scrafice a college education to send your child to see Hannah.:rolleyes1
We consider you not gloating on your pirate: pirate: only because we like Sara!!!:lmao:

I must confess Cheryl... I'm spoiled as Alicia's company reimburses us for the expense of our Cable Modem. We get about $46-49 or so refunded every month... hmm.... wait a minute.... I've been paying for the cable bill all this time and Alicia has been pocketing her company reimbursement all this time! Factoring in the 12 years shes' been there - and the investment income compounding I could have had .. lets see ... 3 times two carry the seven .... ARRRGH! I'm "out" 3 million pesos! <chuckles> Good thing she's me very best friend and spouse - otherwise I'd be reaching fer my baseball bat about now. OK... if not my baseball bat - at least I'd be flashing though sour facial expressions and heavy dramatic breathing about now, followed by some sinister chuckling.

Tom , you always make me chuckle.:rotfl:  Alicia has to be a saint !!!:thumbsup2 She is definitely one person I have to talk to on the cruise.:goodvibes

The TOAL is not negotiable - I'm going. Any place that I actually want to work at will understand that.

Thanks for the finger crossing - I was told that I'll be asked back for a 2nd interview sometime next week. These folks are great & even if the money wasn't as good as it is I think I'd want to work for them. I'm still sending out resumes, but hoping that something breaks soon.

That is what I like to hear.:woohoo: Nothing will stand in your way of the TOAL.
Sending my extra special pixiedust: for your interview.

Hi guys.

Anyone here a Princeton Alum? Anyone have a family member had attend Princeton?

Tyreak and I attended a Princeton info meeting Sunday afternoon. I checked out their site before hand. I almost passed out when I saw the price of tuition. :scared1:

Tyreak wasn't really interested, (has ignored everything he's received from them:confused3 ) but decided he wanted to attend the meeting. He looked bored out of his mind the whole time.

However, when the meeting ended he looked at me as "I think I want to go there." We spoke with a few grads that were there and Tyreak is now hooked.

If he's accepted, tuition won't be an issue.:cheer2: They have grants in place to ensure that all eligible students will be meet the tuition obligations.

If anyone has any tips/words of wisdom about Princeton, please share them.

Thanks.

Oh, he doesn't graduate until 2009 so we still have time to figure things out.

Okay, now you have me curious.:confused3 Just how much is Princeton????? My DS went to a private college (he is close or is a genius) and the first year tuition was $10,100 for his first year. By the time he was a senior, tuition was at $16,500.:rolleyes1 This all happened 20 years ago.

I wasn't going to post this because of the public nature of the boards, but in light of the recent discussions, here goes:

Had to drop out of chat suddenly on Friday. DS began telling me all the ways he had thought about harming himself that day. He didn't want to get in trouble anymore and decided if he killed himself, he wouldn't get in trouble. Spent that evening in the ER where the head of child psychology determined he was fit to go home. The thoughts (no actions so far, just expressing his thoughts) of hurting himself kept up all weekend, and intensified when we were meeting with his psychiatrist yesteray. They admitted him to the ER right away and finally found a spot at a crisis facility late that evening.

For now he's in for a minimum of 3 days. The doctors will determine if he needs to be in longer. They are already telling me that 3 days is usually not enough time to do a good evaluation.

While I'm devastated that my son was so distraught to think of hurting himself, I am so relieved that he never acted on those thoughts. And I am encouraged that maybe we can finally get all the agression, disobedience, and apparently depression under control.

Monica, What can I say.  The positive is DS will be getting help he so deserves. I understand how hard it is for you and glad you consider all us us your friends. If there is anything any of us can do(and I know I am speaking for all of us), just ask. :grouphug:

I just wanted to let everyone know Castoff alias Tina will be having surgery on Friday. She wanted me to tell everyone she will be back. She has been busy handling some medical problems. I know if any of you will include her in your prayers, she would love it.:cloud9:

Monica, so very sorry and sad to read this, but I suppose, on the bright side, he came to you before hurting himself. As someone who once tried to take his own life, I'll tell you that's something right there.

Your family will be in my prayers tonight.

I don't care what anybody says! What a great bunch of people we have here offering support to each other & most especially putting their own personal struggles out there for the world to see so that those here can find some comfort during a time of adversity. I know I won't get a chance to cruise with you J. R., Andy & I know a few others, but I think you are all awesome!!! :grouphug:

OK, Sara & I have discussed this, and we've decided that we will (on one of the sea days) have a

Hawaiian Shirt Contest

Just for us DISers. Sara and I will be primary judges and prizes will be given in the various categories - children, matched sets, off the rack, custom, best themed, etc (we're still working on them).

GRAND PRIZE

will be a Hawaiian shirt made to measure by Sara from a fabric of your choice (you have to buy the fabric & Sara will turn it into a shirt)...

Anyone interested in volunteering to judge, please PM me or Sara.

Wow what great fun!!! This is so nice of you guys to put together! :thumbsup2

This is what I know about Princeton. My neice was absolutely determined to go to Princeton. She was in a special school band, National Merit Scholar, Valedectorian, had EXTREMELY high test scores, award winning athelete, actual won a Princeton award, went to a very hard private school, won virtually every award her school had and ... you guessed it, she did not get in. She was devastated! She ended up going to Rice Univ. I asked my sister last night how much Rice was going to cost per year and she said $40,000. She said Princeton was more. Her parents are very specialized Doctors so cost was expected. I expect my M's better be happy with state universities.:lmao:

That has got to be terrfying. It sounds like a good sign that he talked t you about this. Prayers are with you.

Me too!! Ethel Moore. Where'd you live??

I was too poor to afford on-campus housing. I did two years at a JC and transferred for the final 2 1/2. Double Major in History and Dramatic Arts. 1994. My tuition was something like $20k/semester then

We consider you not gloating on your pirate: pirate: only because we like Sara!!!:lmao:

Thanks for the good wishes. Today's interview went pretty well - they told me as I was leaving that they'd definately call me back for the 2nd round of interviews (with the CEO).

But please don't hold back on abusing Mike on my account - if I can do it, anyone else is free to do the same. :duck: :duck:

I'm stunned into suspended disbelief on one hand - and relieved you're so on top of it. Good for you. TOo many go without getting and chance of professional help. And it sounds like you've got it under a microscope.

I can only hope the very best for your family. I mentioned how my spouse had a boy she knew - one who asked to go out with her and she declined... and later took his life. These things are all too real. I must be so nieave (I can't spell it) and or sheltered to think this sort of thing never happens to anyone within a million miles of me... or us as a community.

You're clearly doing the right thing. We're invisibly holding hands with your family - stretched across the ether of the web we're silently in constant vigil for your well being and the recovery of your son to a celar and recovered state.

somberly,

Tom & family

IMPORTANT NEWS !!!!!!!!!!

I just booked my one-way rental on thrifty for port to MCO for one day

and got a SUV for only $30.49 per day using no codes / WMRT code brought it down to $27.44

RUN PROBABLY NOT MANY AT THIS RATE!!!!!!

I'm seriously thinking of doing that as well. The thought of my DS getting up that early and making it out to PC to meet us scares me a bit.He isn't any early riser and I haate waiting for anyone. By the way what is WMRT?

Came home tonight from work to find out that my next door neighbor of 15 year had committed suicide. :sad2: Husband and father of 2 college age girls that he loved dearly. This was a happy go lucky man that would give you the shirt off of his back. We are all having a hard time trying to understand this.

Roger it is a terrible thing for those that knew him and the family. Sadly they will never know why.

Thanks for the info -- unfortunately I could not get the WMRT code to work... BUT still 30 bucks is cheaper than 3 transferrs with DCL.

Hi Everyone!

Have been busy lately.

I'm studying for my recertification exam next month. I forgot how hard it is to sit and study for a few hours a day. Especially with children in the house.

My exam is on November 3rd. I have to review all of EM in a month.

On a happier note! My Barbossa sword came yesterday. It's really cool. Now I have to convert it to a six inch sword like Todd's.

I think I will need help Todd.

I also received my final frock coat fabric yesterday. It's a real good match to the one in the movie. I need to dye it to the right color though. We need a new washing machine anyway.

Hope to get to chat this week. Have been missing much due to work.

Have a great daypirate:

Just run a wash with bleach. I used to dye all my shirts that way.Good luck with the exam:thumbsup2

Hey, you're describing me. ;) The Zoloft helped with that ALOT! LOL!

I know what you mean about some days being a struggle but, it is easier once you start reconizing *it*. kwim?

I had a strange reaction to Zoloft so I had to stop it. Only got as far as 3 days on a starter dose.:confused3

Have you all seen the new Palo menu posted on the main board? OMG I'm hungry!!!

There my first non-fluff post

Careful... Wouldn't want to start a habit or anything... :rotfl2:

I was too poor to afford on-campus housing. I did two years at a JC and transferred for the final 2 1/2. Double Major in History and Dramatic Arts. 1994. My tuition was something like $20k/semester then.

We hung out a different ends of campus then. I spent all my time in CPM and the Economics building - double major in Business / Economics and Chemical Engineering. Weird. Yeah.

And since my tuition was something like $12K/semester - we hung out at different ends of campus a little over 10 years apart. :rotfl2:

For History and Dramatic Arts - you couldn't ask for a nicer school though.

Did you see they have to take down all the Euclalyptus?? :sad1: :sad1:

I'm posting this one because it's come up several times. I haven't used it because - well - I just don't get it. So, I'm coming to our ever so helpful community for help. Could someone PLEASE explain it to me??
