8/17/08 Captain Jack's Repossession Repo Cruise to PC thru TPC Part 15

One year from today most of you will be waking up around now (7am local time) and getting ready to depart from the Disneyland area to the World Cruise Center in San Pedro. I have gone through my pictures and will try to recreate what is in store for us a year from today. Anyone else with pictures from the Mexican cruises or Repo in 2005 please join in. I am cheating and using photos from the Magic's first sail-away in May but it was the same kind of celebration that the repo got when it left. Correct me if I am wrong Andrew or Paula.

Roger I love the pics. As many pictures as I take nowadays, I didn't take any from the sail away in 2005. We had those hands that we all were waving and I thought the fireboat escort was the neatest part.

I think this is a god deal. The Canon 30D DSLR is only $449 (no lens) including shipping. I am investigating whether this seller is on the level or one of those nortorious bait and switch NY/NJ resellers who remove things from the boxes or never ship items to folks. But - it is called BESTPRICECAMERAS.com. DOes anyone know about this seller? I saw a article on 60 minutes or nightline where they revealed the annoying truth about a scam retailor.

At any rate - I do know Canon is about to introduce a 30D replacement - and the 30D seems a cut below the lower ranked XTi model Canon introduced. Alas, I am a happy "bottom fisher" and view the 30D as good enough for my intents due to:

#1 Manfg. rated 100,000 actuation shutter assembly life
#2 Digic 2 is more than enough since I see no real need for digic 3 ICs
#3 The image resolution of 8MP is more than enough since I was happy at 6Mp
#4 The price is right at $449 compared to its' body only list price of 1399
#5 The selectable FPS speeds of 5 and 3 suits me fine - expecially given thier rated 30 frame buffer but tested buffer performance of 41 frames at 4.85 FPS in the JPEG fine setting. And the tested RAW performance was 11 frames at 4.85FPS.
#6 The 9 point AF is superior to my old 10D autofocus array.
#7 Did I mention it was only $449 with free shipping? That's too cheap to be true (almost) .... making me cautious as I don't like geting ripped off!

So again ... anyone know anything about this retailor? I'll probably buy with a credit card that offers good protection against fraud or bad retailors.

Looks like the best price both of the two I've used (for the Canon you're looking at) is $989.00
BIG difference.

Has anyone ever gotten one of the "fake" magazine subscription renewals in the mail? We only subscribe to a couple of magazines, but we sure are on the bad guys' list. I've even called them, written them, threatened them...and they still keep sending me their fake invoices.

That's one to watch for!

Yeah....

.... I feel a little squirmy - I am anxious to see what the new 40D (?) is gonna spec at - and the price is not expected to be less than $1400 - but more like $1500 again. SO... I am just sitting on the sidelines waiting - and waiting - and wondering whether I'll settle for a discountinued 30D when those prices eventually collapse.

My last equipment purchase was from B&H too. I got the new pro/consumer level 70-300IS. I was happy until I found a common defect existed in the original production run lenses... of which mine was one of the earliest specimens. So - they supposedly fixed it free under warrenty - which I cautiously tolerate.

At any rate - back to trolling for 40D info - until I have to depart for tonights' soccor practice. My spouse is gonna be coach - and I was to be the coach until she decided she wanted to try her hand, er - rather foot, at being an AYSO coach for a bunch of 6-7 year old girls!

Me too me too! DD Ashton has been riding for over a year now and will only be 9 on this cruise. She will turn 9 in May - she loves her horses. She is even saving up her money to buy her own horse (I guess she thinks we will keep it in the back yard ).

We will have to get our girls together for a beach outing...I was informed to look under the excursions for Aruba!

I had to take a look at the spec and review on the Nikon 40Dx. It looks like the next generation body for the Canon 40D to match (er, beat?). And at a little over $1K ... I'd say it's a better deal then the 30D hands down - and something to chaf about if the 40D is priced like the 30D... $1400 list.

It has a slower FPS rate - 3 versus 5 on the 30D ... but I have always admired the build quality and nice tactile feel of the Nikon DSLRs. I used to be an all Nikon enthusiast - until rencent years. I know we chatted about this a few months ago - but just the same - you know I DROPPED my 10D ... so have been in a leaking rowboat crisis since.
