I got an email from a close friend that a mutual friend of ours killed her entire family and then herself today. :sad1: I can't begin to tell you how out of character this was. She was just so sweet. She was such a good Mom, always up at school being room mom. PTA etc. You always saw her smiling and laughing- but not creepy/manic like. I cannot even imagine what must have happened in her mind to do something like this. We are not remotely talking about an Andrea Yates type person. I am still completely in shock.
It was not fun telling my DD that her classmate was dead and his Mom did it. They had a 7 year old DS and an 11 yo DD. Both my kids were friends with each of their kids.
This has hit way too close.
This is especially so sad when great people are looking for kids to love and make a wonderful home for and another Mom. kills hers. Just does not make sense.:sad2:

I saw this on the news.... How incredible sad. For everyone. I can't imagine the depths of her deppression that she felt like murder would help. Suicide I could almost understand but, your husband and children?

I'm in shock right now and could use your prayers, pixie dust, or whatever you believe in. My son was just diagnosed with moderate to severe hearing loss.

Thanks for the humoring remark...

.. I post this stuff in part because I am not 100% certain of anything with this solar thing. Maybe someone will offer a thought that gives rise to new info. I had a couple of really good suggestions and page links that increased my knowledge of the situation... for which I am thankful.

And litterially - this is just the calculator from a manufacturer. It gives me another opinion of what to expect and it is very conservative.... while the sellers are obviously aggressive (imaginative) in thier projections. I hope to realize something in between. Especially since the BP calculator does not perform a precise estimate - it is just a generalization of sorts.

It sounds like you know what your talking about. :thumbsup2 I do think ( down the road ) it will end up being the wave of the future. Getting in on this now can only help you save money in the long run and help the value of your home go up. That is always a good thing.

I'm in shock right now and could use your prayers, pixie dust, or whatever you believe in. My son was just diagnosed with moderate to severe hearing loss. It seems to be progressive and they are not sure when or if he will lose his hearing completely. We've got an appointment later this week to begin getting him hearing aids, an appointment next week with the ENT doc to try to determine the cause, and trying to get an appointment for genetic testing. We're trying to get all this done before I leave in 2 weeks.

It's all so overwhelming. I flucuate between being concerned about the cost since my medical doesn't cover hearing aids, the timing of trying to get things in place before I leave so that he can be ready to start school while I'm going, to the quality of life impacts for him.

I've noticed over the last few years that he would have the TV up rather loudly and that I would have to repeat things to him. But I passed it off and ST behavior, more of a listening issue than a hearing issue. But last month he asked to get a hearing test done. They started us out with his pediatrian and when they noticed some abnormalities in his test, they referred us to an audiologist. His hearing is about the same in both ears, but way below the average.

I have to give the audiologist credit though. When explaining that he needed hearing aids, she made it sound so cool with all the gadgets he'd be able to get. Such as special plugs for TV and iPods. And there's a device that the school has to provide that is a microphone that the teacher wears and it feeds directly into the hearing aid. My son hasn't complained at all yet about having to wear them. Especially after she told him he could get special designs on them.....get this, her example.....a skull and crossbones pirate:

I'm slipping into the 'why me' mode this afternoon and that is not a place I want to be. I haven't had a chance yet to have a good cry, pour into the research or do anything productive. I had to get back to work after the appointment. I just feel that I'm going to crash and burn tonight but I need to stay positive for my son.

Monica, I feel for you and your son. Kids are suppose to healthy and maintenance free right. :confused3 Both of you will learn how to adjust your lifestyles where it will come to be normal. I'm not saying this will be an easy road, especially with a ST. It will be interesting to find out what the cause is but more than likely they may not, that is how most of medicine is. We will all be for you to come up with ideas on how to deal with this transition. I am very sorrow that this had to of happened at a most inopportune time. :grouphug:

Monica & M&M-M...

For what its' worth - in recent months we've had news that left my spouse pulled over to the side of the road sobbing over the news we had. And we too have had too many friends and folks close to us go into chronic conditions that are too often fatal in the prognosis. BUT - most importantly, what I want to really say is that things can look up. We had some really bad news at one juncture - only a few weeks later to get better news - folllowed by terriffic news - then again we've had saddening news. Lifes' tapestry shifts with our understanding of the situation - sometimes the thoughts of the professionals (Monica) is not so dire as initially thought. But they sort of HAVE TO tell you what they think it is at a certain point in time. SO hold fast and be strong - and with patience maybe the prognosis will improve.

M&M-M.... I am left nearly without words or intelligible thought at hearing your numbing news. It is a terrible and unexpected tragedy. We have to just deal with it and quickly move along. Our lives and days should be cherished for what we have today. And in our families I can only say that the moments we have with loved ones is priceless and sadly fleeting sometimes. It matters not a stitch if we are living high on the hog or squeezing by - for if we have our loved ones near than there is nothing more needed by some of us. I'm rambling -but these are more or less my unedited thoughts.

Now if you'll excuse me I have to mow the lawn - pick up the youngest daughter and fix dinner before the sun goes down. Then I have to drive the dog to my sisters' place and then I have to finish packing!

TTFN!

This was DS8's Birthday cake for 3 years (3 different cakes, but the same design each year!) I "erased" his name so I could give it to you. DS had it for his 5th, 6th & 7th birthdays. (We finally changed for the 8th to a Pirates theme pirate: )

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

Prayers - :grouphug: & pd for you and Jen. Having a family is more important - there will be many cruises in the future!

This is me, simpsonized !!!

I couldn't find any images which might pass for a Simpsonized me - however...
this one came close to my kind of imaginative sci-fi thinking personality:

Of course - here I am responding with a Simpsons' image where I have not seen ONE complete episode of the series.

I swear I have never dealt with death so much as lately.
First DH's Uncle being killed by the train a couple of weeks ago and today.

It's beyond my understanding what can drive someone to such horror.
I hope the school is providing counseling for your kids or perhaps through your church. It is somewhat overwhelming for children.
Prayers for you & for their family.

Thanks Paula!

... as you kno... it's kind of a quiet visit if ya get my drift. No plans made with anyone this time. I think very few people (family/relatives/local friends) even know we're coming over.

At any rate, I am looking forward to hitting the beach everyday in the early AM or late afternoon. The Korean BBQs, evening hula shows with a box dinners - and I do look forward to surprising a few old friends - maybe.

Well... I guess... on the other hand I don't think I want to see too many people this time around. We'll just stick to small things to do this time.

Maybe we'll hit the swap meet at Aloha stadium this time around. We havn't done that in a few years.

Cheers,

Tom

Tom - I hope you & Alicia & the girls have a Wonderful time in Hawaii!!!

I have family in Kona - so we go there most often. In fact I've only been to Ohau twice and Maui once!!
We're going over to Kona for Spring Break next year.
