For a teen I would stick with the SAFEST car you could find for him/her. Not to say he/she's any less of a driver than anyone else (like - how would I know?)... but young drivers are cited - as we all know - as having a much higher then normal accident rate. And I just saw a print ad talking about the annual fatality rate of 6000 teens a year in the USA as new drivers. That says NOTHING about the number of accident survivors - or the severely injured.

Frankly, I am very concerned as to how my spouse and I will address this risk potential - while enabling a fuifilling teen aged existance for our kids. They make such amazin gadgets today - a spy box that records the activity, speeds and "g" forces of a car. So in 10 years I imagine technology will enablefar more advanced (and probably affordable) tracking devices.

Am I too willing to be invasive and controlling? :confused3

Right now she's driving an '05 Chevy Equinox. So far, she's done okay. If I had my 'druthers, it would be a TANK my kids drive........:lmao:

Truth be told...she won't get EITHER the 'Stang or the Dodge....we're Chevy people too.

So, here it is...my COAL (Car of a Lifetime).

I'm trying to stay close to the speed limit, but I sure can go from 0 to the limit very quickly!

Yeah, I'm the one the other moms talk about....

My mom had one of the original mustangs....same color, and very similar body style. I guess I have always sort of considered mustangs to be more "mom mobiles" than "muscle cars."

I hope you enjoy yours!

Unfortunately for DD, we won't be getting here a FORD. Mark might get fired. :rotfl: :rotfl: We have order her a SKY but we aren't sure about that either. Might wait until the new Camero comes out. We were checking them out at the Dream Cruise. Really hot car.

Well...

... just make sure it's the BumbleBEE Yellow one....

Well, We had talked about the Hummer. :rotfl: :rotfl: No Seriously. We did.

I don't think DU is discontinuing thier increased cabin credit offer. As the banner on the DIS still states OBC is good up to $600. HOWEVER... that said ... I must confess to wondering about what your $300 refund was all about? Did you pay for your cruise in full already? That would generate a refund if that prepayment included the reversed $100 per person PC tax they imposed and then withdrew. Or... ?????? :confused3 who knows what its' about. I would probably call DCL if I were you.

Just heard from dreams, I still get the 600.00 OBC. I did pay for cruise in full BEFORE I found out about the imposed tax. Dreams sent me an email that they were going to pay the money to Disney because DCL didn't get my check in time.

I am all about a surprised refund but if we aren't due one well it's not fair. Guess the refund is mine. It will help with the un-expected medical bills.:yay:

More storms on the way so I will be shutting down computer.

That's funny, I remember having the same conversation with DH.:rotfl2: I tried to justify it by saying it will help with driving in snowy NY. Yeah that's when I got my new subaru.

DD Jordan (17) can't decide if she wants one of these (Mustang) or a big 'ol Dodge truck. I told her that if Mom and Dad are footing the bill, it had better be the Mustang. We could get 2 of those for the price of the pickup.

If you are buying, then you get to decide what it is. Man, kids today - I tell ya. I didn't get my first car until I was 25, and then I had to pay for it myself.

As far as motor safety, I'm a pretty big advocate for learning to drive on a motorcycle or scooter - you are much more aware of other drivers and you learn to drive defensively. Some of the safety classes they teach for motorcycles are awesome driver training courses. But I don't rule the universe and there *are* a lot of stupid drivers out there. Good thing I have 11-12 years before it becomes an issue.

The Subaru AWD is supposed to be awesome handling snow and ice.:thumbsup2

What a good point about driving a scooter or motorcycle. I never thought about it that way.

IF we bought her a car....and that's an IF because IF I can't get my nifty camera, then she's not getting a new car either.....but if we did, I agree, it won't be HER choice.

Well, If we get her a car it will be a car that Mom wants and she will get to drive it. There is no way she can handle my huge SUV so if she is going to drive it will have to be a smaller vehicle. Mark has a company car so she can't drive that. Of course, it will be nice for me if we get a fun cool car.

Oh for crying out loud.
I haven't read the board for a few days (catching up after my INSANE weekend Fri-Mon and still busy after Monday too) and now I come back to find that things have changed? they no longer have those little arrow thingies to the left of the thread that you could click and it would take you to the last posts you'd read on the thread the last time you were here?

That was my only saving grace on this thread! I never could keep up (and/or know where I left off- where I'd read last) on the blabbermouths thread. With that little arrow thingy I was doing better at keeping up on this thread- even when I was gone for a few days or something.

Why oh why, ye Dis masters, have ye decided to taketh the arrow thingies away from me??? :confused3 :sad2:

Good luck on me catching up now. Let me spend an hour or so clicking back pages until I find one I recognize and THEN start reading from there... forever more to be tons of pages behind everyone else... trying to "ketchup". *sigh*

Shelley, save it to your favorites everytime you read. That way you will easily know where you left off. But I never noticed a the arrow thingys.:goodvibes

Reason #728 that Kids keep us young - we get to play with their toys.

If you save this thread to your subscribed threads it'll pop up on the User CP everytime new stuff is added & the little blue arrow thingie is right there where it belongs.

The only other thing I can think of is that it may be something in your browser, since I've never not had it there (as I, too, depend on it to keep track of where I read last). Did you try posting something to the Tech support board?

Wishing you many little blue arrow thingies in your future.

ok one more post....

Look at these....

Wouldn't they be perfect for TOAL?

and they match both our shirts....
Those are very cool. And they would match those red tie-dye shirts someone showed on here. ;)
Is someone doing the bracelets in a bulk order where each person can buy from them how many they want? I think Lisa was doing that- and probably isn't anymore :confused3 -if I'm remembering correctly?
If we need someone else to "handle" that- I'd be happy to. Or are you offering with your post about them? All I know is they are perfect and I think that's the ones we should go with! hehe

Those bracelets would make great fish extender gifts........

Speaking of that...have we given any thought to whether or not we're going to try to do that? With a group this big, we'd almost have to divide it up alphabetically or something.

I'll take all the "X"s !!
I know that I want to do it with the kids. Weren't we going to sign up kids and do like a secret pal -using fish extenders- thing between the kids? I've been collecting stuff here and there (princess stuff, POC stuff) to do this. I hope we're still doing it. At first I was thinking we might not participate because we'll already have enough luggage without adding so much other stuff to bring with us- but now I'm thinking we'll just take an extra bag with all that stuff in it- and then it will be empty for the trip home.
haha- empty. Yeah right! ;)

I had an e-mail from our Captain ...Todd...... as they were arriving in Cadiz this morning. All is well and they're having a great time.
Except for one small detail....

There are no Mickey Bars on the ship!!!! :scared1: :scared1:

:mickeybar :mickeybar :mickeybar :mickeybar :mickeybar

Some sort of problem with the supplier to the Med.
Oh they better not have that "sort of problem" on our cruise!

As far as I am aware-yes, on my recent Med cruise thread I got to know many dissers, one also from London, in my old Cat 4 room from the Panama cruise had a Union Jack up.

They were left a note on the bed to take it down, and I understand when they didn't they had a telephone call to their stateroom from guest services saying you cannot do it and take it down.

I understand now you cannot leave anything too large outside, various references to navigational issues or making the Magic look untidy have been mentioned.

Additionally on Aft-starboard Cat 4 staterooms we were told to take all wet swim-wear and clothes off the verandah on Pirates night as its a health and safety risk for the fireworks being left off starboard aft.

Okay so now banners aren't allowed?
Well, I guess that's one thing less on my list of things to do before this cruise. :(

Thank you all for the very nice birthday greetings!
It was a great day as I begin my 43rd year. I guess next year I will turn 43 on a sea day. Works for me.:thumbsup2
Happy birthday! I'm glad you had a great day and yes, that will be nice next year. :)

Since we have one just a couple years shy of "driving age" we've already discussed it. She will get something older, but not old enough that it's not trust worthy, but inexpensive because those are the "learning years" and we really don't want to buy a really nice vehicle only to have it banged up or whatnot. If she ends up going AWAY for college (meaning not somewhere nearby) and depending on how old and dependable her vehicle is- at that time we would probably pass that vehicle on down to Robert... and get her a better newer one. But she's going to have to work and help pay for it and insurance. No free rides in this house. I didn't have a free ride (as far as a vehicle just given to me and gas/ins just paid for me without me working at all/etc. Nope, that didn't happen) and it made me a much more responsible person than many of the kids I grew up with that had everything handed to them on a silver platter.
If she doesn't want to work (and/or can't because of all her activities and such)- then she won't get her OWN vehicle. that's how things roll up in this household. LOL
(cause we aren't rich!)

nice ta see you're out of the plant in Grangemouth fer a while... (is that it above?) .... enjoy reading "the novel" ... I've still got some ketchup due fer me too... I've been pacing myself with reading 200 postings at a single sitting to catch up on the stuff I missed while I was away 2 weeks - the internet connections I had there were laughable - DSL at that too!.

So stretch back and relax - the weekend has arrived!

Looks familiar, but that said I've been to a few refineries & plants & they all look remarkably the same! Tonight will be a test to see whether or not I glow. I'd rather visit the chocolate manufacturers with a decent staff shop - I really don't have any need for industrial herbicide!

I was hoping to do the Secret Mickey thing - at very least for DD5, and maybe for me & DH too. I think it would be a good way to handle the Fish Extender issue. Those that want to give out stuff (and get stuff) can sign up & those who don't want to participate don't have to.

Just my $0.02.

Tom, believe me it was so hard giving Adam the freedom to drive. But I sold him my 98 Volvo and I got a nice brand new Lincoln LS. (sacrafice I know) but I wanted Adam in a safe car. I am proud to say that in a little over 2 years driving no tickets or accidents (do you hear me knocking on the desk!!). I still do not let him ride anyone else in his car. I did promise him if he finished jr and sr year with all A's & B's we would buy him a new truck. Jr. year blew that out of the water. But we are leaning towards helping him get a new truck after graduation--he managed to put away a good chunk towards it over the summer by me working him 56 hours a week. I am hoping by next year he will be a little more mature and not drive quite so fast--trucks are easier to flip than a car.:)

Sounds to me like you can get away with a banner through the Canal, but only if you wish to risk a Stern Note. Me, I'd do it, but we're Cat 10 unless there's a LOT of Pixie Dust in our future. I was hoping for a Cat 7, but the prices were too high for even a Cat 9 by the time I got through to DCL. :confused3 Oh well, at least we're on the boat.
