One of the unexpected diversions we experienced was yesterdays' "Bay to Breaker" race/run. We did not come into town for this but it just so happened to be scheduled for yesterday. Several thousand people run in it - with a number who are serious racers.. plus a large number who are in some kind of wacky costume. A few were rumored to be running in a near naked state - which I imagine is likely in a city with the ruputation SF seemes to have - but we saw nothing of the sort. At any rate, the race was fairly good natured with a few elaborate costumes and teams of fun loving folks folks running in "theme". Plus - at one point there were two runners cosumed as a couple of old fashioned wrestlers who were engaged in a funny wrestling match on the spot and they had thier own bull horn equipped anouncer quipping humorous remarks sounding like an old style radio broadcast! AND we saw a pair dressed as the Jack in the Box "JACK" and the Burger King "King". They were more or les tormenting one another! And the list goes on and on.

Hey! Did you see DH and both DS!!?? They were hanging out on 5th street at the start of the race. Unfortunately I dumped the pictures they took so I can't share them. They saw a number of naked runners (boys, according to DS10) and a few half naked - topless (girls, according to DS10 - who then went on to say it would have been more interesting if the bottom half was naked rather than the top half. )

They saw all sorts of interesting groups: a group of Salmon running the race backwards (swimming upstream) who when they hit 5th "spawned" and died; many groups with their mobile kegs, boom boxes, and dancing platforms; an ode to Sesame Street; A bunch of Who's Waldo fans in red and white striped shirts; a group of honey bees; etc. The boys' favorite part was the tortilla frisbees. They thought it was cool that if you found a tortilla on the street you were to fling it back into the racers. Since I saw pictures of people with runner number 35,500 on their shirts - I'd say 10's of thousands run the "race". Of course only one number is assigned per group. So when all is said and done it's probably closer to 100,000 who race. DH describes it as "The first 10% is a race, and after that it quickly becomes a moving street party." They had fun and came back to the hotel for a swim after. I was ensconsed in the continuation of the conference I was at starting on Wednesday.

3 More Days

What Arrrrr you doing this weekend??? Hopefully your banning together with Pirates across the land to go see me Movie ...I am recruiting each one of you to hoist sail and make way to the theater this weekend so we can crush the Spiderman record .......Also if you so choose dress the part ...

Is there a moving opening this weekend? Which one???

I really want to get back into running. It was the best stress reliever I ever had. I'd put on my headphones, fire up my cassette walkman
[*] and go out and do 2-3 miles each night.
[*] For those young folk, a cassette walkman was a device, kind of like an MP3 player that held 30-120 minutes of music on a single tape cassette.
[*] For the older folk, a cassette walkman was like a portable phono player that instead of using vinyl records and needles, used a type of recording tape.

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

That picture would be perfect if there were a jar of fluff in it somewhere.

(There is, you say? Sorry, I didn't see it the first time).

Maybe she was at the Bay to Breakers!!

Sometime back (the last time I was on - 2 weeks ago?) I promised before and after picture of DH10's new summer "doo". We had taked about a flat top, but he came back with something else....

What a change!! With the new doo all you noticed was how big he eyes were! It actually made him look younger.

I was with my MIL and FIL plus my older daughter and my SIL with her daughter. So we sort of wandered out at about 8:30AM and were astoished to see the race still continuing with great strength. We had never heard of this before and were just checking it out. HOWEVER... I was tinking that next year... wouldn't it be FUN to do some kind of get-up and join the fun?!?? So ... yeah... maybe... just maybe we'll join the fun in May of 2008! And YES... we did see yer DH and 2 DSs. However.... it was really fleeting... <chuckles>.... did your family spot us? We had the kids on our shoulders and were the folks in mild shock but smiling by the mock wrestlers!

that is cuz i'm able to post!! LOL! i seem to be a thread killer....i'm pretty good at it! (of course i know this thread won't die...but i'm great at slowing it down!)

:wave2: Shannon - you have my disease - break electronics down. I've been asked to stay away from some photographers - can't remember who is was but I'm sure they'll remind me.

Sounds like you had a great weekend (except for the little mishap)! That is wonderful that you will have a new neice or nephew to enjoy Thanksgiving with:goodvibes

yeah... among other happy things - news like this was really heart warming!

hmmm....maybe it's my turn to fluff a little!!

Careful - Andrew from UK sees that he might report you. ;) I fluffed posted an entire page to myself on our Med thread and he reported me to this thread. :rotfl2:

That BTW, is very hard to do! I almost gave up but I did it!

No, no
a_fluff_links.jpg
on this thread, because posting of
bake20004.jpg
would just drive the post numbers up closer to a pirate: which would be an inappropriate use of

.

I so need these pictures for the Med thread. Can anyone tell me how to post this picture to another. Remember your talking to a technophobic.

We choose Lompoc because they had an Embassy Suites there and it was relatively close to the "right" train station. Aside from that - yeah - the St Francis was nice. Service was great as usual. Had a front desk manager helping me when an angry lady interrupted us - and he asked her to wait a moment as he was with me. After a bit more of an exchange I offerred to wait while this urgent lady got her way. I didn't really care one way or the other and she might actually have a valid crisis... you see she had already tried to interrupt one or two other folks up front and was asked to step back or something like that. Well... I let her go so she could get what she needed. Then as it was getting finished for her she stepped over to the front desk manager off to the side to say something... and my A-Manger stepped over to follow. Evidently HE heard her saying something that he felt needed his comment. As I watched I could overhear her saying my manager had been ... let me see ... what was the term she used?.... she said he had been rude and had been impolite in handling her. The AM looked perplexed and was about to say somkething when I stepped forward to interject... I said the AM had been totally polite and proper - had done nothing wrong and was 1st rate. The lady who was complaining looked as if she had been slapped speechless and just stood there in total silence and said nothing more while the front deck supervisor finished helping her (all she needed was a front desk key - and evidently they were being very careful about who she was before they gave her a replacement key). I appreciate the procedure they were exercising.... given her attitude.

She stomped off - the AM returned to finish what I needed and I turned to leave... when a few steps from the desk he called me back - and said my courtesy in letting the rude lady go ahead of me needed to be rewarded. He offerred my family lunch on the St Francis. Well, initially he said he wanted to do something nice for my party and asked how many were in the group. I said we had 4 rooms, 7 adults and 3 kids. HE hesitated and dialed it down to just liunch for my immediate family. So I suggested a few desserts and cookies would be preferable so I could share snacks since we were about to go to lunch with the family. And on returning to our rooms we had a couple of desserts, cookies and a couple of snadwiches. The sandwiches ended up being driving snacks for me though since we had already had a heavy lunch.

Anyways... on the running crowd and the NYE crowd you must have encountered... I can only say I can imagine what it must have been like. The photo above is cited as NYE in SF... and the crowd must have been "crazy". Frankly, I like SF... except I like it more as a place to visit then live permanently.

Maybe one of these days we'll try SF and LV on NYE. My spouse and I are not huge and wild party types - so we typically don't do the nite on the town thing for NYE.

You, my friend, have a lot more patience than I! Had it been me checking in (probably with DW and an ever increasingly rambuncious DS1-going-on-13) I would have asked if she was bleeding or dying? "No? Then take your add to the end of the line before I tell my kid you stole his pacifier!" :scared:  Kudos to the AM for offering lunch on the house like that. :thumbsup2

We got married on NYE in Vegas! :bride: :groom: :headache: A million+ of our closest friends came along for the ride! If you go to Vegas keep a few things in mind: they close the Strip about 8pm-9pm to vehicle traffic, around 11pm or so the Strip hotels go on lockdown...only guests with their room key will be admitted (even for a potty stop), the crowds aren't that maddening but DW and I stayed with the more "sedate" party inside our hotel. IMHO Vegas had the better fireworks display as about a dozen of the Strip resorts set of a display from their roofs....but the SF display on the bridge was spectacular.

Yeup I'm back with the horrible Pirate Jokes. I think life will be a bit more settled for at least a week or two giving me time (I hope) to keep up with all y'all.

I'm quite sure you meant to say DS10's new summer doo, didn't you? And yes, I do think it makes him look younger in the second photo.

Here is a pic of the Goofy Pool that was taken the other day, the pic was posted on the Live Report thread of the transatlantic crossing. Talk about your wave pool..............

I was thinking the same thing. I've know the wenches were talking about going after younger men, but that's taking it too far. ;)
