As for vegas... the photos are just of the old downtown area (Freemont street/etc.). While all the REAL action is on Las Vegas Blvd with the mega resorts. I didn't take many pix there on account of us not spending much time there. Well... we did spend a fair bit of time in Circus Circus on their games for the kids.

At any rate here are a couple of googled photos of the strip ...

Is that the Bellaggio? Is the water synchronized(sp) to music. I remember seeing this hotel in Ocean's Twelve.

Good Morning:goodvibes
TGIF! well it's my Friday.
I saw that video last night of the little kid getting pummeled by the football player and guess what, I just turned on the today show and they are on it after this commercial break.15 min of fame:thumbsup2

[ Well... actually I am using standard decking stingers that are precut.

These are untreated decking i hope.....

Anyone have an opinion on either the CASTLE look or the cottage top? And, can you tell in the other image that I have a SLIDE set up on the LEFT?

The castle facade would get a pair of authentic flickering torch lamps I found at Ikea (photo below). The castle INSIDE would get some kind of light too... maybe the same torch lamp.

I like the castle one.....

While the lighting sounds cute in concept, One note of concern i would have is how close they would be located to errant blankets/toys/etc which if located on top of or near the lamps might catch fire. (These are IKEA lamps we're talking about) Or may they heat up so much that if one of the princesses accidently touches it (by play or in sleepy state) may get burned.

Slide sounds good in theory but what kind of slope are you proposing? It looks rather steep unless the slide would stick way out and then need some other middle support. And what would the material be? (to avoid splinters)

Yes...

Bellagio with free water shows every 15 minutes in the evenings... and I think some in the day maybe. Treasure island has a spicey new routine for thier free show out front. And that's all we saw on this last visit. That is - besides Circus Circus, and our westin pool/spa... and the sea food buffett in downtown.

Now... where is Todd? He should have something to say about things to go and places to dine at in Vegas???

My little one is getting spoiled rotten here... I let her watch a little Winnie the Pooh to adjust her attitude. She has been a little terror for the hour + before I gave up and brought her out here. And while she gets Pooh I get to surf a little... except my spouse has the house Wifi. And I have not reset the freshly repaired notebook to sync with the wifi. So during the day I've been unpluggin the modem from the wifi antenna and pluggin it in directly to my notebook. And now that she's got the wifi and modem ... I am actually leaching off of one of my neighbors' un-encrypted wifi gates. It seems to be near the limit of coverage as it keeps drifting out of contact every now and then. Which is annoying - but then I am loath to unplug the wifi at our home and break the sync with her business notebook. She mentioned to me last nite that she needed it up this morning so she could do a little work. Sigh...

At any rate... Vegas is a funny town. I sort of was thinking I would not be in a great hurry to return with the kids on account of the rated PG and R atmosphere. My girls are getting older and I don't want to have certain questions raised yet... as i am not prepared to address them yet. However, if we did not have the kids in tow - or if we could leave them at the hotel with someone we trusted then I would be very enthusiastic about hittin' Vegas! So much to see and do... so little time. It's a pretty good escape for grown ups in general. Especially if you're not a gambler - in my opinion (like my souse and I). On this last visit we did not drop a dime on any gambling... as was the case on the last couple of visits.

OK... I am sooo wacked now. I need to try and get the little one asleep and catch some shut eye myself. my typing errors and becoming more pronounced now...

TTFN!:confused3

The 2 scars on my face (lutz & double salchow) beg to differ.

It is so nice that you name your scars, it must be great for their morale! You should use easier to pronounce names so the kids can say them easier.:lmao: :lmao:

Yeah, Ikea stuff is engineered correctly--to be good enough for the price paid. Those Scandanavians employ 2 principles of engineering pragmatism:

Some of Ikea’s stuff is cheap and meant for the first time apartment dweller I’m sure! But some of the stuff looks unstable and that isn’t the case all the time! We bought out first kitchen table from Ikea over 5 years ago. It is a cute glass inlaid rectangle that seats 6 people. Its made of some sort of blond wood. And we paid a whole 99.00 for it! This table has survived 3 moves and still doesn’t have even a dent in it, the thin legs are not split and it is still as sturdy today as it was when we bought it. My solid cherry head and foot board as well as most of my other well made furniture that cost us a fortune, well some of it looks like they tossed it into a field and let the mustangs and cattle run over it a few times!

I was going with Golden Child, although that would have been a strange donation....

Probably more valuable than a gift card. Certainly more valuable than a graham cracker.

Thanks Laura for your encouraging thoughts....

Now... let me circulate the ideas that I have in mind for the front of the bunk bed. Anyone have an opinion on either the CASTLE look or the cottage top? And, can you tell in the other image that I have a SLIDE set up on the LEFT? And on the right I have substituted a stair well for the ladder. There will be a sturdy hand rail attached too. This is what I have in mind... more or less. As for the facade on the LOWER level... I am beginning to rethink that as it divides the floor area and may be counter productive in more ways then one. So - I am setting that idea aside for now.

The castle facade would get a pair of authentic flickering torch lamps I found at Ikea (photo below). The cottage has a light at the truncated peak on both sides. The castle INSIDE would get some kind of light too... maybe the same torch lamp. Plus the stairwell will get a night light of some sort that will always be on. The slide is probably a certainty as my spouse likes the idea.

Any opinions folks?

:confused3

Cool designs. I'd build a moat at the bottom of the slide for DD to splash down into.

I agree. I've never had an issue with the quality of Ikea furniture. The only problem we had is with one of their dressers because the kids kept breaking the slides (from overstuffing the drawers). Our basement is furnished in early Ikea and the tables and shelves are extremely sturdy.

Another advantage is unlike other knock-down furniture (such as Sauder), it is easy to disassemble Ikea furniture to move it. We had two Sauder pieces ruined when we moved to Illinois because the movers didn't handle them right and the stupid connectors Sauder used broke through the particle board. But we took the Ikea shelves and tables apart when we moved and they came through with no issues.

Thanks for the info on Vegas. I am not a gambler either. I would just like to see the town.

I've started a diet at the request of my doctor. I just had a rice cake for breakfast. It has no taste or appealing properties of any kind. I wonder if I could save money by eating sawdust from my workshop.

Does anybody actually like these rice cakes? Somebody must if they keep selling them.

Nobody likes them but the Drs. get a kickback on each pack sold.

I know what you mean about the rice cakes! Yuk! But I eat them too! I sometimes put Peanut Butter( PB) and strayberry preserves(sugar free). This does not taste bad. Also I buy the lightly salted.

Very little nutritive props either.....

How about adding 1 or 2 tbsp of peanut butter?

That will add protein at least.

Or eating with 6 oz of yogurt.

Mornin' pirate:s

We had an earthquake last night. Just a little rumbler. 4.2 about 100 miles as the crow flies from here about 2:30 am. Yahoo.

I'm guessing that you are on the same program we are... every few years, all of your worldly posessions are moved across the country by the lowest bidder!

Am I the only person left who has never been to Ikea?

I thought the point wasn't to fall?

Yeah, but a whole bunch of things have to go right for a person to jump into the air, spin around twice and land backwards on 3/16" of steel. It takes a while to learn.

And ice is slippery!

Cool designs. I'd build a moat at the bottom of the slide for DD to splash down into.

That would help during the Stinky-Pre-Teen-refuse-to-shower years!

Forgot to quote Crash, but I vote for the castle. princess: :thumbsup2
