Hi Everyone! Just got back from Florida last night. Thanks so much for all the good wishes. I haven't caught up by any means, but I read some of the responses from my post on Saturday & I can't tell you how much I appreciate the words of support!
My mother is hanging on, but the doctors are not sure for how long. It could be days, weeks, months.
Her lungs & heart are shot so they say she is inoperable. My mother has been on oxygen for a few years now & her quality of life has continually decreased. My saint of a sister lives nearby & helps care for my mother since she has been unable to get around much on her own, but my sister also has to work to pay her bills & she is not with her all the time. My mother has refused to build an in-law onto my sister's home, because she doesn't think it's fair that she might be able to rent it out once she dies and make money off of it. (That just gives you an idea of how my mother thinks.) With this latest health issue, my mother will require much more care, since she can not even sit up at this point without gasping in pain. The hospital said there is nothing else they can do for her & they want to release her in the next day or two, but there is no way she can be on her own.
Anyway, we are hoping to get her into a rehab center which her insurance will pay for, but it is difficult to get a bed right now. Otherwise we will have to pay someone to stay with her until a bed opens up. I wish I could've stayed to help, but I had to come home & care for my kids. Mike took a few days off, while I was down there & he couldn't afford to take off any more. The rest of my brothers & one other sister do not live near my mother & also have to work. A couple did visit, but like me they have responiblilites at home. I am glad I got a chance to pay my respects, but it was very difficult to see her suffer & know there is not much I can do to help.
As for DH, he has a follow up appointment today, but otherwise seems to be doing very well. He has already lost a noticeble amount of weight in the last week & I think that is contributing greatly to his overall health.
Hope everyone else is doing great!
