Hey - The salon where I go doesn't allow dogs in the shop - against health regulations. The owner is foolish regardless - the sweetest dogs may react agressively for seemingly no reason. Your child sitting down close to the dog might have triggered some pack/territorial reaction. I'm no "dog whisperer" but I've had so many dogs and trained them - and since I have had a lot of German Shepherds I am so cautious as they can do so much damage.
So I'm being long-winded - but I'd say find a new hair cutter!! Speaking as an attorney you might have some legal recourse however - I don't think its worth the effort. Its' more important to reassure your child that dogs are okay - and not to get too close to other dogs.
I would check the local ordinances - perhaps lodge a complaint - even the local humane society. Also, when not upset - speak to the owner and explain why you won't return to her shop.
So - I'll stop going on and on ==-but as a Mom also - I can relate to how upset you must be!
Chris

They are keeping him over night for observation & plan on running some more tests on him tomorrow. His symptoms were minor & only lasted for a short time, so there is no permanent damage & they feel that this was more of a wake up call to change his lifestyle. The plan is that he will be released & sent home with a regimen of medication. We were suppose to leave first thing Saturday morning for Hilton Head, but now I'm not sure I want him taking that long drive. Guess I will wait to see what happens tomorrow. Doubt I'll sleep much tonight.
