Hi all. Just spent quite a few hours in the emergency room with DH. It appears he may have suffered a minor stroke. :sad1: They are keeping him over night for observation & plan on running some more tests on him tomorrow. His symptoms were minor & only lasted for a short time, so there is no permanent damage & they feel that this was more of a wake up call to change his lifestyle. The plan is that he will be released & sent home with a regimen of medication. We were suppose to leave first thing Saturday morning for Hilton Head, but now I'm not sure I want him taking that long drive. Guess I will wait to see what happens tomorrow. Doubt I'll sleep much tonight. :guilty:

:grouphug: Best wishes for a speedy recovery. Let us know how he is doing, ok?

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Speaking of irony... it took me 3 1/2 hours to apply for a job using an online system called "QuickHire"

Good thing they didn't make you use the "LengthyHire" process. That one takes 3-1/2 years. :rotfl:

Hi :wave2:

I really should be in bed right now. I have to be at work in less than 7 hours, and have a meeting I've been dreading tomorrow. Plus my performance review. :scared1:

Nite

I hope everyone has a very Happy Friday the 13th!!! (13 my favorite number :) )

I chased a black cat under a ladder with a broken mirror this morning. Do you think that was a bad idea?

Just late getting going this morning. The drama princess in the family had to be dragged out of bed for preschool.

Sorry to hear that. Sending prayers your way....

Have your put your resume on Monster.com? Lots of companies actually use them in the Metro DC area.

Shannon, don't feel ashamed. You need to report that dog to the authorities. I also don't think that a dog is supposed to be in a salon.

There's a salon a few doors down from work that i've seen a small dog in. I'm not sure of the laws here but  to WKid who was nipped at.

Thank you everyone for making me feel so welcome.
:flower3: Welcome Stef....

Hi Eveyone -
We're back from San Diego Zoo & Wild Anima Park - both venues are AWESOME!!! and huge!! The kids want to plan another trip to visit again. So do I. AT WAP there was a 4 week baby elephant and one 6 months old. I took some pics but am still learning how to use the camera - I've got to install the software to upload them to the computer.

Tomorrow we're going back to DL/CA for the last day of spring break.

Cheers - Chris

WOW both the Zoo and the WAP in one day. sounds like a wonderful time. I am so jealous. Have a great time today.

wanting opinions here...
my ds's went to get a haircut tonite. it's only the 2nd time we've been to this salon. i really like the lady that cuts their hair. my problem is with the owner of the salon. the first time we went in...there was a dog in there. i don't have a problem with dogs...i have one of my own. i didn't really like the fact that the dog had free roam thru the salon...but he seemed friendly enough. he just kept jumping on my kids..and trying to lick them in the face. it all went ok, and my youngest loved petting the dog while the oldest was getting trimmed. so, tonite, we go for a trim, and as soon as we walk in...the dog is jumping on my 4yr old. i told the dog down, and then the owner called him to her. we sat a few mins waiting our turn. then my oldest gets in the chair. i was sitting on their little bench watching my youngest pet the dog...who was jumping all over. then the dog stopped jumping, and nick started petting him. nick squatted down to sit by the dog, and all of a sudden, the dog freaked out...and was trying to bite nick in the face!!! he started growling, and attacked my baby! nick tried to turn away and shield his face, and then the dog grabbed ahold of his arm. now...this wasn't a huge dog, thank goodness! but it was a decent sized one...so it has my ds freaking out now! thank goodness the dog never drew any blood. there was a scratch on the side of his head near his ear where teh dog got him, and his arm has an indent where the dog sank teeth in, but didn't draw blood. i freaked out, and started yelling at the dog, but i couldn't get right to nick, cuz there was a railing in between us. i reached thru adn shoved the dog away...but i couldn't get a good hold on him. i ran to get my ds, and he was ok ....just very startled. the weird thing is...there was nothing there to make the dog territorial...no food, no toys...nothing! and i know that nick didn't hurt the dog...i was watching the whole time. the only thing i think he did to provoke would be to squat down to pet the dog. the thing that makes me mad is that the lady did yell at the dog...but that was it. she made sure that nick was ok..but she never caged the dog, or put it in another room or anything....she just simply yelled at it! i was a little miffed over that, and i still am! now i'm torn over what to do...i like the lady that we use, but not this salon. i'm not sure if there is any recourse...we didn't have to go to the hospital, or anything...but my ds is now acting a little skittish of our dog too. it really freaked him out, and i gotta say it freaked me out too to watch a dog attack my little guy. i think if he had done something to provoke him...it would be easier to explain...but i have no explanation for it! i kinda want to call the lady back, but i get all tongue tied...and i don't want to sound like an idiot for not saying anything tonite. i just was really startled by the whole thing! do you think it's worth a call back tomorrow? i'm not sure what to say? it was really scary...and i want her to know that i'm thinking of not using the salon cuz of this dog...but i'm not sure if i should rehash it or not?
guess this got really long...sorry...i think i just really needed to vent! thanks for listening!
I think the dog shouldn't be allowed in the salon. What if the kids are an adult was afraid of dogs? Plus the owner should be more mindful of what the dog does and should not allow that type of behavior from the dog. I think there is a health issue to with a dog in the shop. At the very least she should have not charged you for the haircuts and INHO she owes you a call today to see how your child is.

Good Morning All :wave2:
Just checking in for a few. Our plans changed for this weekend. Instead of driving to Chicago we will be working on the house non-stop and I will be putting it on the market next week. I am still painting and I think it will never end.

I am going to Jacksonville in May with DH for business. The day before my moving sale I have a diser coming to visit me.:goodvibes We are still set to move end of June.

I hope once everything is done and settled I can start visiting the boards on a regular basis.

I miss everyone.:sad1: :surfweb:

The local news has a story about Cartegena on NOW!!!! They have some gold on display in a museum. I will have to try to find out more information. It sounds like something was recently found.

I hope that as every good obsessive compulsive Disney planner would, you have recorded it, converting it to digital, uploading to youtube and then posting link here?

I am so sorry to hear this Diane. Your family will be in my thoughts.:wizard:

Some of you know about my health issues before our cruise last Aug. This was my experience and hope it helps you. I had a small stroke last year. Heart disease runs badly in my family. My Grandfather past away last year ( Stroke ) but his real problem was having triple X factor.

I have really high Cholestrol so there was a concern with the doctors. After having alot of tests, it was determined the stroke was caused by a migraine.
I was also told this is a wakeup call for my lifestyle.

I am on alot of medications, too many if you ask me. I take asprin everyday and I still see the neurologist till this day.

I had to travel in July for my in-laws 50th. The doctor's were concern about the amount of time I would be sitting. Fear of blood clots could form in my legs.

Everything turned out fine for me, I did everything the doctor's said. I would move my feet in circles and even get up and just walk back and forth on plane.

On cruise in Aug. I felt tired but I did EVERYTHING I wanted to and more. Even ate things I shouldn't have. Shhhh Sending you PD to get the information you need to know.:wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

1) DON'T GO BACK!!! Think of it this way, if you go back and the dog does it again but its not a minor attack, instead draws blood or God forbid, worse, you will hate yourself! Plus, DS will probably be nervous around dog which may affect the dog or make it more prone to attack.

2) Call local health/animal authorities. If the dog did this, it will do it to others. They should get in there and stop the salon from having the dog in there (probably violates some health code anyway).

Feel justified in your anger. That was a totally inappropriate response. If my dog gets skittish around other dogs (better with humans than dogs), she gets locked away until the other dog is far away, period.

::yes:: and ::yes:: I will be looking for that on page 1.:surfweb:

i know of one person who may be here...cuz she is a new lurker that i have hooked on the boards...and i think soon she'll have the courage to post....

you know who you are!!!

she will be cruising with us, and i'm trying to get her to join the thread....

come out come out wherever you are!!!!

I would offer her one piece of advice.... RUN!!!!!

Don't get hooked on DIS, you will find yourself up at all hours of the morning, scheduling your life around DIS, stopping in places with free wi-fi just to ketchup, neglecting (as they will put it) your family... wait, that just describes me... nevermind

:rotfl2:

Report from the great muddy North: 55 degrees and the sun is just going down.

This was about 100 yards from my house 20 minutes ago:

55 degrees? It hasn't been 55 here since January...

What a messed up weather world we live in....

Speaking as an attorney you might have some legal recourse however - I don't think its worth the effort.

Awful brave of you to admit this in this day and age (plus its nice to know I'm not the only attorney here....)

guess this got really long...sorry...i think i just really needed to vent! thanks for listening!

Goodness! I personally wouldn't go back. I would contact the person who does your hair and explain that you are very happy with her but you do not feel that your children are safe in the salon. Maybe she can arrange to go to your house to cut their hair? It might take a little while for your DS to feel totally comfortable around dogs again. I never really recovered from being attacked by a doberman when I was 8 or 9. I was riding my bike & he got out of his house, ran to me and bit thru my rubber insulated boots, jeans, and socks and pulled me down off of the bike. I don't like dogs jumping up on me no matter what the size and it makes me VERY nervous when my kids want to pet even the dogs we have known for a while...most are as big as DD. You shouldn't feel silly for any decision you make. It might be an extreme example...but would you take your kids into a snake pit knowing that they could be bitten? Of course not. It is a mother's natural instinct to feel if their child is safe or not. If anything makes me question their safety...I don't go there.
