Under the Category "It's A Small World After All" Turns out our niece (my DBro. DD) and Jack and Justine's (Justine's DBro. DD) niece live on the same block in Queens, NY and are really good friends!

How's THAT for concidence......or rather 6 degrees of separation! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

When I went to one of those DVC member picnics at BWV a few years ago, they had a get to know you exercise and one was to meet someone and find what state they were from. We got talking to a couple and said we were from NJ and they were like "no way" they were from PA, what part of NJ. Figuring they wouldn't know NJ towns I said outside Trenton, which only intrigued them more. They asked which town, I said Ewing (town at the time) and they asked if I knew this bakery about 1/2 mile from my house. Turns out they owned it for the last 20 years and lived about 10 miles from me.

Now I'm going to be singing that song..... arrrg

Wow very impressive guys!!! :thumbsup2

If they break the 400 bricks into DISaholic Cruise committees, feed them :cake: and blender drinks :drinking1: while indulging their OPCD....they are Pirates on the EB Repo TOAL cruise.

sssppp!!! It's task forces! ;) :lmao:

Did I tell you guys that the day before we left for vacation our DD (17) gave her 2 weeks notice at her Drug Store job?? DH & I were upset, not because she resigned (it's a horrible job), but because we wanted her to find something else first. She has a car that she needs to gas up and insure. No money, no car...simple. Well today is her last day on her old job and she secured a new job at the local pancake house as a waitress. I don't know if that's that job for her either, but, she is only a high school kid....................................

SO we definitely must have a NY/NJ area Mini-Meet at this Diner!! That will Freak my ST out!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Okay, so we'll let her train a little before Freaking her out! Anyone in?? :thumbsup2

Wish I lived close by....that would be fun

Poking fun and the sense of entitlement of some and the obsessive overplanning of others.

And are you entitled or obsessive? :rotfl:

I cruise with a man who knows the exact location of the nearest lifeboat from any place on the ship, makes sure that our life jackets actually fit, and jumps out of a sound sleep everytime the pitch of the engine hum changes in the middle of the night.

But the more important question is, can he get us (and by us I mean me - not the other 496 people on this group) a bridge tour?

What is your husband's rank? (if that's not too personal). Perhaps I will dazzle you with the very limited knowledge of CG I got from a co-worker in CG Reserves...... Kinda amazing that people don't realize how much they do....

Sorry about all the bad news. The prescription thing happened to us in January and they changed our prescription plan to a tiered system - so if you get a generic you pay the lowest amount, if you get an approved (on the insurance companies list of drug companies) brand name you pay the middle amount, if you get a brand name that isn't on the list you pay the highest amount up to and including full payment. This is even if the drug you need has no equivalent at any other company!

I try to look at it this way, we at least have insurance when there are so many out there who have nothing.

we used to have that 10-25-40 now we have 10 generic, 30% copay on formularies and we pay 60% of the otheres. Youch

OK, can someone please help me out here, as there is NO way I can read ~50,000 entries - I was looking for some info/feedback on this cruise. We'd be interested in taking this cruise (submitted a quote request to DU) - is it too late for a decent cabin, or is it more that most of these posts from the same group of people "sharing"? I have to say, this thread is rather intimidating for someone interested in joining in on this cruise!

WELCOME ABOARD!!!!

Good luck getting a stateroom...though it might be a while. There are several people here who are on a waitlist with someone. It was sold out the first day around 2 pm...in less than 6 hours!!! Any cabin will be a good one if you can get onboard. :goodvibes Just jump right in. Some of us have been chatting since before the announcement was made. Lots of information in the first post too...including summaries for every 1000 posts. Some are just chat but the links to info are found there.

We went to Trenton one time to see a friend of the family take her final vows for the convent. I was only 6 or 7 so don't remember much.

After doing some research, I just found out this is possible for us to do!!!

I also found out even better news: an increase in the retirement age for "new hires" from 55 to 60, so it appears as I am grandfathered in and can still retire at 55 if that is my choice!!!:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

that's great news

MR that is so you and me! I would do something like that.I am so sorry I can't be a part of that. :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I'll call Pete. We're in. Jack

Jack, I want to also say Thank You for your hospitality. You and Peter made us truly feel at home. We all did feel like we were having a reunion instead of a first time meet. Thanks again

Welcome!!! It does SEEM intimidating, but really everyone is usually very open & friendly with their responses. Just like Tom said, a lot of info is on page one & we will have a website for everyone to link to with more info about the cruise. It's still a bit early to plan anything, but if you have any specific questions, I'm sure many of us would be happy to answer them. Right now we are just chatting about everyday stuff & getting to know each other.

Hey there Theresa!!! What program do you use for HS?

Lisa, you really are done with that school board, aren't you . . .LOL. DS10 uses Saxon for Math, ABEKA for grammar, Wordly Wise for Vocabulary, MCP for spelling and SONLIGHT for science, literature, and history. For DS12 we're using Jacobs Algebra for Algebra II, Sonlight for literature, writing, and history, ABEKA for grammar, a few different things for vocabulary, and Apologia for Biology. Oh, both boys are using Rosetta Stone for Spanish. They also take a 1 hour art class every Friday.

Phew!!! Both boys are independent learners at this point. Most of my work is responding to their questions and asking them questions about what they are doing. Every child / family is unique on how they homeschool.

So . . . what brings this up? Are you thinking about it?:woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

what the heck is a pork roll? doesn't sound appealing :confused3

pork rolls . .yummy . . growing up, we had a great friend of the family who was a physician from the Phillipeans. They would have the best holiday parties. I used to stay and help my friend and her mom make hundreds of pork rolls for guests. The kids (or rather teens) would be in the basement for the party . . .we would have pork roll eating contests . . Danny Gallager ate 75 once! . . .LOL So Pork rolls are delicious far east food!

Okay, since it seems like some of us (many of us) are disgruntled employees currently, how's about a funny work email I received:

I'm in HR? How about YOU??

Job Placement Aptitude Test

1. Put 400 bricks in a closed room.

2. Put your new hires in the room and close the door.

3. Leave them alone and come back after 6 hours.

4. Then analyze the situation:

If one new hire has convinced the others to form task forces, set big hairy audacious goals (B-HAGs), motivated them to work for no pay to achieve said B-HAG, and contibute a portion of their future earnings for the good of the room, you have found a non-profit manager.

Hi Theresa! What's new? :wave2:

Ummm . . .new . . . got new tile in all our bathrooms. My master bath is totally stripped. DH desperately wants a toilet back . . .LOL. I'm sanding down and refinishing our vanity. It was solid wood . . .amazing how much $$ it would cost to replace it. I also managed to get the aged wallpaper off the drywall (they didn't put paint on the drywall before putting wallpaper on it . . yikes!). We're also painting the master bedroom for the first time ever . .. So things are pretty much in an uproar, but it will be worth it. . .

What's new with you??:hippie::hippie:

Yes I am. It's not only the school....it's central services. HR made the decision & didn't even tell the administration that they would not have an assistant showing up the next day. :sad2: I am going to call the one school I would consider sending them to and make an appointment with the principal. I am going to be very direct with him & ask him how he would handle some of the situations that I have had to deal with this year. If he doesn't give me acceptable guaranteed responses...we will be homeschooling them. They use Saxon Math in school now so that would work. I didn't realize that you could pick & choose different programs for each subject.
