Ok, here's a "Small World" story....

A few years ago, my mom passed from cancer, and the brothers and I and my dad were of course overwhelmed with her care. The hospital had sent in a hospice nurse during the last few weeks of her care. It turned out that the nurse was my cousin, a cousin I never met or even knew about as she was given up for adoption at birth and my aunt (her mom) was not close to the family any longer. So, it was just a shock to meet during this really bad time...

Then, after my mom passed, we were talking about something, not even sure what anymore but the name of a guy I used to hang around with came up in a conversation.

My cousin was present and said, "yeah, I know him...he used to work with my dad".
"Oh, where" I said.
She says, "at the steel plant". This intrigued me, because thats where I got to know this guy we were talking about - I used to work there....
"So, who's you dad?"
"Jim. Jim Keiser", she says.
"Wo! When I worked there, I used to hang around at Jim's house at lunch and play with his Great Danes..." This guy, Jim, was her adopted dad...

To sum it up, I used to hang around HER house and I didn't even know who she was until 20 years later!

And during this hard time I was introduced to a new aunt...my mom had a sister I never knew about. She only lived 2-3 miles away.....it was great meeting her because she reminded me soooo much of my mom, right down to her sense of weird humor, even her laugh...it was my moms.

Hows that? We don't have skeletons in our closet, we have whole bodies! :rolleyes1

Wow that is really something else!!! :thumbsup2

Happy Stanley Cup Playoffs NHL Fans! As of this year, only one NHL team has never experienced the quest for Lord Stanley's Cup. Gee...wonder what team that is?

Signed,

Columbus Blue Jackets Fan

Okay, since it seems like some of us (many of us) are disgruntled employees currently, how's about a funny work email I received:

I'm in HR? How about YOU??

Job Placement Aptitude Test

1. Put 400 bricks in a closed room.

2. Put your new hires in the room and close the door.

3. Leave them alone and come back after 6 hours.

4. Then analyze the situation:

If they report back that 100 bricks are cold, 100 bricks are cracked, 100 bricks are uneven, 100 bricks are red, and 100 bricks are too small....they are politicians.

If they take 300 of the bricks and horde them to build their own office & say that you need to make due with the 100 bricks that are remaining...they work for the school board.

:lmao: Sounds like the bricks are getting personal.

I'm sorry you're having a difficult time with your school board. :grouphug:

I nominate Cap'n Jack to bring us a cake from Freed's Bakery for the sail away party!!! Anyone second the motion?

Shayleys-Hawaiian-Luau-Birthday.jpg

It looks devine, but how about during a DL meet? After all, I'm pretty sure we can get our fill of :cake: on the cruise! ;)

did everyone notice we now have over 500,000 views

Do you think that includes all the times the regulars bop in & out?

If we kill the groundhog, there won't be any more repeat questions, right?

Well we must be nice to the posters who have a life & don't realize the questions that have already been answered here. Even tho the groundhogs will be dead...we can still post pics of them right? Well not dead ones, but you KWIM! :goodvibes

I cruise with a man who knows the exact location of the nearest lifeboat from any place on the ship, makes sure that our life jackets actually fit, and jumps out of a sound sleep everytime the pitch of the engine hum changes in the middle of the night.

My DB is going on an RCCL cruise with us this summer & he is petrified. Being the overplanner that I am, I sent a pic of his obstucted view cabin. He emailed me back & asked why the heck there was a cross shining in the window. "Is there something you're not telling me???" "Um yeah....there is a lifeboat hanging outside your window & that is the reflection tape on the lifeboat shining from the flash of the camera!" Oh my what a lunatic! :lmao:

After doing some research, I just found out this is possible for us to do!!!

I also found out even better news: an increase in the retirement age for "new hires" from 55 to 60, so it appears as I am grandfathered in and can still retire at 55 if that is my choice!!!:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Glad to hear! You had me worried for a minute there buddy!

We finally got home late this afternoon. We had a great time at both Disney and meeting everyone at the little OKW meet. Justine originally doubted that anyone would actually show up. She figured that it would just be me and Pete with our cooler. But eveyone was very pleased with how it turned out.

If the people we met are any indicia of the rest of the people on this cruise, this truly will be the TOAL.

Jack

Just judging how well we seem to get along here, I can't even imagine how fun it would be to meet in person. Well I've met a few, so I know how crazy some of them can be! :rolleyes1

Ahhh Lorri thanks for the coffee  You're the Best!

Hi There Diane! I get so much stupid Spam now thanks to a stupid Spammer (KWIM) that I am just now sorting through over 300 emails I received on vacation, 99% of which is garbage. But I do owe you an email and will answer soon Pal!! :thumbsup2

;) I hate spam! I used to get a ton of it until we changed our email address. It's better now, but it's starting to pick up again. Everytime you do something on the internet, they nab your email address & bam the spam starts!

For the record....I'd love to have another Meet, but I wouldn't do that to DD, she is leaving for college soon and I'd like for us to be on speaking terms when she does go off to school......Oh No now I'm getting all weepy again..

How about one in NYC? I could take the train from Boston! :yay:

Disney was great. First time in a grand villa. Loved it. Me and the DD's are trying to convince the DW to go back in August. :thumbsup2

Make it between the 6th & the 17th! I wanna attend a mini-meet too!!! (I'm stomping my foot! ;) )

I don't know if I could FL in August, even for Disney - it's so HOT and HUMID down there!

Aw come on Lorri...it's not that bad! You can swim all day & head to the parks later when it cools down. All the parks except AK are open late at night during the summer. The hotels, restaurants, inside attractions, etc. are all air conditioned and there are misters all throughout the parks to cool you off. Just think...you don't have to pack anything but tank tops, shorts, & bathing suits!

I'm in Finance Management. We sell 200 of the bricks and tell Engineering they still have to build the same structure under the orginal cost estimates ...... in half the time.

I'm in Product Management. We take 200 of the bricks away from engineering and then go tell them to build the same house they were going to build with 400 bricks, but make it twice as tall and make sure it has glass windows.

Hmmm...how about:

If they refuse any responsibility for the bricks, then place them in Compliance.

If they dismantle the bricks, then return them to their original formation expecting new results, then place them in technical support.

If they dismantle the bricks and tell someone else how to return them to their original formation, then place them in Training & Development

Wow very impressive guys!!! :thumbsup2

If they break the 400 bricks into DISaholic Cruise committees, feed them :cake: and blender drinks :drinking1: while indulging their OPCD....they are Pirates on the EB Repo TOAL cruise.

OK, time to vent again, this week is really starting to get on my last nerve.

I went into the office to drop off the meter book that I finished and to pick up my paycheck this afternoon. My boss' secretary was at her desk and we started some small talk about my trip last week. Then she says to me, "Did you happen to hear that it appears the retirement age is being pushed up to 60 for current as well as new employees?" The last I heard, those of us that were already in the retirement system could still go out at 55, but if this new proposal goes through, unless I want to take a pension cut, I will have to hang around until I am 60. Then the secretary tells me that our prescription co-pay is going up the 1st of May, and that we can only get a 30day supply of medication for each prescription. As it is right now, we can get a 90 day supply for each prescription.

I almost dread going into work tomorrow, for fear of more heart wrenching news...............

OK, time for me to take a chill pill and cool off a bit.........................
Oh Andy!
That sound awful. I know how you are counting the days.

Here's something my everlovin' DH emailed me today. After my family.....I'd like to have a couple of cups of coffee with all of you!! Enjoy:

A MAYONNAISE JAR AND two CUPS OF COFFEE

When things in your life seem almost too much too handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the two cups of coffee.

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him.

When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was. The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full, they agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous "yes."

The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

"Now," said the professor, as the laughter subsided, "I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things- your family, your children, your health, your friends, and your favorite passions — things that if everything else was lost and only they remained your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house, and your car.

The sand is everything else — the small stuff.

If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued, "there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you.

Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your partner out to dinner. Play another 18. There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal."

Take care of the golf balls first — the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand."

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented.

The professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend."

MR I just had to send this off to all my friends, It was so appropriate for many of us, Thanks for posting it

OK, can someone please help me out here, as there is NO way I can read ~50,000 entries - I was looking for some info/feedback on this cruise. We'd be interested in taking this cruise (submitted a quote request to DU) - is it too late for a decent cabin, or is it more that most of these posts from the same group of people "sharing"? I have to say, this thread is rather intimidating for someone interested in joining in on this cruise!

Well, this is in regards to DD's class. Her assistant teacher is now doing her student teaching to get her degree at a different school for the second half of the year. They didn't have anyone for a month. Parents volunteered to go in & help but were turned down by the teacher. Our letters sent in January resulted in them hiring a substitute to be the assistant in that room. Four weeks later she was told by HR at central services that because of the fact that the person student teaching is still being paid, there is no money in the budget to put anyone else in that classroom. That is the stupidest thing that I ever heard. Where is the money from the new lottery going? This can't be the only classroom affected like this in the county. My child & the others in that room are being denied their right to the proper faculty/student ratio to help them learn properly. The other two classrooms have assistant teachers. Now they have suggested that one of them will split their time between the two classrooms. Now instead of 20 kids being at a disadvantage...there will be 40 affected by the school board's stupidity.

Also, the parent survey came home today in response to our letters. What a crock! It is a 21 question generic survey with bubbles to fill in. No room for comments or details regarding problems.

Lisa, so sorry you're having still more problems. Reading Staces story about her DD and the F and speaking to my DD and hearing the oldest is getting bad reports is just getting more and more ludicrious. When they started the lottery here in Fl. the $ were to help the schools and they still calim how much has been put into the system, but years ago if I remeber correctly, an article was written on how the lottery $ was replacing some state funding so the schools still are getting around the same but now it comes from the lottery. Which would make sense. The state needs $ to screw around with in all the wrong places. Not where it needs to go. I'm sorry my DD can't stay home and homeschool.

Hey Jersey person!

Go to page 1, there are links to summaries of what is here.

The trip is booked/overbooked right now, but everyone figures there will be a lot of people dropping as the trip gets closer and life gets more complicated.

Otherwise, ask away (but be prepared for a few pictures of groundhogs if you ask a question that has been asked before - along with the answer)

And we are not intimidating (probably better characterized as a little nuts...)

Hi All --

Just checking in here . . . how are ya'll . . .;)

:lmao: Sounds like the bricks are getting personal.

I'm sorry you're having a difficult time with your school board. :grouphug:

Forgot one thing....if they take the bricks & start throwing them...they are angry parents who are sick & tired of their kid's needs being dismissed.

Yes, I guess these bricks are getting a little personal. ;)
