Hope it was a good one!

Wow! You actually slept till it was really morning!!! :rotfl2:

Yep, what do you know about that.............:rotfl2: It only took my ST to start working these later shifts to make me sleep in later..............:lmao:

Okay , the deed is done ....Have been on the waiting list and the call came today ...So with alot of hesitation I drove down to my buddy who did my back and here is the result ...And yes I was very nervous because even though I have ALOT of Tattoo work none of it can be seen with shorts and a t shirt on ...So I was nervous about the fact this was my first one that is exposed ...

pirate:

Wow. It looks cool. So I guess you're a pirate for life.

M - congrats on your new furry family member! :dog: Too cute!!!

How did you make out with all of that mud on your deck? And a triathalon??? You go girl! With 2 boys where do you come up with the energy?

It has been killing me hearing stories of people traveling for spring break, had the travel bug pretty bad the last couple of weeks. Problem is DW and I work opposite shifts (to take care of the kids) so we don't get many days off together. Yesterday DW got "Called Off" not enough babies for her to take care of, so :cool1: off to Santa Barbara we went. About an hour up the coast from here with a beautiful drive along the ocean. Had lunch at our favorite place, Brophy Bros which is located on the harbor overlooking all of the boats. This place makes us feel like we have traveled to somewhere far away but only 1 hour away. Afterward the kids got to play on the beach. Weather was beautiful as well high 60's.

Great pictures. We are going to try to go to SB this summer. We have tried a few times, but never make it past the outlet mall in Camarillo! :) We'll have to try Brophy Bros. It sounds great.

We still have mud. Lots and lots of mud. We need to figure out some way to keep the mud on the hill and off the deck. Still working on it.

I just bring the boys with me. It wears them out!

Another stupid thing I've done for a t-****
For the record, I would have WON my weight class. Picture "Mountain Mother",yup, my competition. 9th outta 14 & the only girl raised in Midwest suburbia in the group.

From http://www.talkeetnachamber.org/event-mountainmother.html
The Mountain Mother Contest in Talkeetna glorifies the spirit and strength of the Alaskan Woman. About 10 years ago, the women of Talkeetna rebelled against the Wilderness Woman Contest. The contestants in that contest came to Talkeetna in the dead of winter, donned borrowed winter survival gear and competed for the title. The only requirement was that they be unmarried at the time. They had to hitch up a sled dog team, shoot a bow and arrow, crawl through a culvert, haul water, drive a snowmachine, clomp around in bunny boots and snowshoes, and make a sandwich for the reclining bachelor. That night, they would get all decked out and go bid on the eligible bachelors at the Bachelors' Auction. The Wilderness Woman winner would get a fur hat, a plaque, and sometimes a trip to Europe.

"Humph!", thought the hard working moms in Talkeetna! We have to do all those chores and all we get is chapped hands! We need some respect. (Talkeetna women get LOTS of respect, but they wanted recognition – and maybe a trip to Europe).

So the Mountain Mother Contest was conceived. The only requirement was that the contestant be a mom – married or not. And it would be in the summer, when the kids could watch how hard their moms worked. And it would be more realistic. So the feats are (done with a "baby" in a pack on their backs): walk a log in hip waders, carrying 2 buckets of water; "shoot" a balloon moose with a bow and arrow, "catch" a fish, chop up firewood, change the baby and wash out the diaper, make a "pie" and call the kids in. Winner got some useful things, like an appointment at the local beauty shop for a hair cut, manicure and massage; a nice dinner out; gift certificates from the local shops. And a nice warm jacket with "Mountain MAMA!" on the back.

<AK mental note #2> Break the news to DW that a transfer to the Alaska site just ain't gonna happen! EVER!!!! :cold: :faint:

sick.gif

We get mildly active calls from school/pre-school when one of the kids has a temp or throws up. I run right in to pick up as I wouldn't want to spred any developing illness to others. Today the little one obviously will not go in as she has a temperature. In fact, I'll be running her to her doc for a visit this morning or afternoon.

Here's a great story.

My middle DD was in the Middle School Chorus. In order to get an "A" in that class, you only had to be in school and at chorus class every day. She had a solid "A". It was time for the Christmas chorus program. DD was sick, sick, sick. She had strep throat, fever and was also sick to her stomach. I kept her home from the concert. Her teacher gave her an "F" for the ENTIRE course!
I called the teacher, and was told that it was an "All or nothing" grade. She said if they didn't show up for the concert, the "rule" was, they got an instant "F". She went on to tell me that one girl and her father got into a car accident on the way to the concert, and that girl also got an "F" for not being there!:headache: :headache:
So my reasoning was that the kids could not show up for class all year, but show up for the concert, and still get an "A"?????
Of course, I called the principal, gave them a note from Jordan's doctor, and the grade was changed to a "C". I still wasn't happy, but they wouldn't budge any further than that.

Evenin' pirate:s

Lord help me and someone have my head examined...

I signed up for a triathlon today.

Never been in a swimming race
Never been in a biking race
Never been in a running race.

Triathlon?
Sure sign me up.

Heading back to ketchup to give you time to laugh.

:lmao:

So I had my first swim lesson yesterday. There were only 2 (later 3) of us. The instructor wanted to know how much we knew about swimming, what we wanted to learn, any fears etc. So naturally my fear is drowning ;) and I need to know how to not sink (turns out my freestyle stroke wasn't too terribly bad). My classmate, a rather lithe, much too in-shape lady says that she's going to do a triathlon!!! :faint: WTH!?!?!?!? I thought this was a beginner's class!!?!? Turns out she needs instruction to improve her stroke and get her off using the noseclip (she hates water going in her nose) because they aren't permitted in competition swimming.

Lesson went well but now I've got a stuffy nose and sore throat. DW also has something because she wasn't feeling well last night.

Thanks Jonesing for the entertaining cake! It's good fer a bunch of chuckles!

You're welcome! Actually, it WAS about 10:30 last night when I found that cake ;) DISboard clock is running in its own time warp!

But you are all so nice and fun!

I guess the alternative is to be one of the folks MR keeps running into.....

not a tough choice.

I just noticed in your sig line you were on an '06 Eastern that was supposed to be a Western. Was it 8/26-9/2? We were on that one.

Alaska weather report: High 44 Low 29
It is foggy in my river valley right now, but it is supposed to be sunny today.

Way to go Jones! (the swimming, not the stuffy nose)

Lots of people have a hard time with the swim part of the tri. I have a friend who is afraid of drowning during the first leg. Swim is probably my best portion. I hate running. I don't run. Running is evil. It doesn't help that I have the hips of an 80-year-old woman (minor birth defect + 15 years competitve figure skating = :sad2: ) I bet I get me some fancy bionic ones before I'm 50.

You do realize that you are going to have to show off all of your swimming strokes on the Magic. I can see it now - slightly inebriated crowd of 100 pirates cheering on a grown man as he swims laps in the adult pool.

Thanks fwe the B-day wishes. I DO appreciate your congratualtory thoughts! And on the winner having the most T-shirts.... well... I got a long way to go before I can compete with ANYONE on that front. The last bike race I was in was a fund raiser for MS - a 200 mile bike ride from Orange County to San Diego. I got HIT by a car at the 87 mile point and broke my left hip and right wrist. Plus a $$$+ bike was wrecked! I don't regret riding to raise money to help others - I DO have regrets at being hit by someone who had been in an accident only 60 days earlier - and had no insurance. Fortunately, I had a little uninsured motorist coverage which paid me a maximum claim - which was enough to cover my medical bills and leave some consulaton funds for my lost time.

Now that I've been in a situation like this - with an uninsured motorist hitting me - I have the cynical attitude that most bad drivers are uninsured - and now I pay a slight premium for an insurance company which offers a multi-million umbrella which EXTENDS to the uninsured motorist component of my policy. So IF an uninsured motorist hits me I can claim up to 2 million... ehich I do indeed hope I CANNOT! If ya get my drift....

So... on your race and while training for it - ride very carefully and defensively!

I got 2 kids sleeping with me now. One is on my lap while the other is rolled up tight against me. My spouse is not ready to settle down yet so I'm just sitting here tapping away on her keyboard!:surfweb:

So THAT'S why you're called captaincrash!!! :lmao:

And what happened to the Shleprock doofus that hit you? Slap on the wrist? Better yet, did the driver sue you for causing damage to the car? :sad2:

Personally, my suggestion would be to have your child attend the concert and cough heavily on that teacher . . . then maybe she would think twice about it in the future

Thank you for my reason for homeschooling for the day. Amazing how I get a new one every single day . . .LOL

Even if the kids are with their dad at Busch Gardens today because . . .well, we could . . LOL. It's his only day off this week and he deserves to spend quality time with his kids while I'm painting our master bedroom. Since he is our principal, he didn't have to ask anyone . . .

It never ceases to amaze me the power trip that so many teachers are on . . .it's like a drug. (mind you I know there are great teachers out there . . . my mom is one!)

Okay, back to painting for me . .

Way to go, matey!!! I think a show at Castaway Cay would be much more effective than the adult pool. I think it take three strokes to get from one end to other (I've tried). Good for you for overcoming your fears. Remember, you were swimming BEFORE you were born . ..LOL

If there is even a trace of SN*W on my lawn tomorrow, there will be a DEAD groundhog. I must go into work tomorrow because of training and that means sliding around with all of the other idiots and taking 3+ hours to get home tomorrow night

Time to kill the groundhog. We have two inches on the ground here!!!:scared1:
What happened to Global Warming.:confused3 We need it here.:thumbsup2

OK, I have to say that Sanjaya wasn't that bad tonight, in fact I liked him. He really got into character. I have to say, for the most part the majority were not up to par. This was Latin night for gosh sakes. Shake your booty a bit and get into the mood. What a bunch of stiffs.I think the best were Blake,Jordin and I hate to say it Phil and Sanjaya. At least he wore the hat tonight.

Cheryl, You and John tie for the oldest graduating class with DH. '64, I was graduating Junior HIgh:thumbsup2 Still an innocent child:lmao: :lmao:

Keep rubbing it in Arlene. I collect Social Security first.

WOW!!!

I drop one complementary remark about the nice cake images being posted and I now I see this HUGE recap with cakes and well wishes already having been posted. It sort of makes me feel.... GUILTY for having not been around to post B;day well wishes for everyone lately...

So... with that I've this special cake to share....

birthday_cake-715215.jpg

FOr what it's worth... I'll let ya all in on a little secret. In the last couple of weeks with my computer dead and me sidelined off the DIS mostly ... I had MY birthday pass and I guess I had not posted the date on the DIS board yet. Oh well... I liked having had a quiet DIS birthday.... (snif).

At any rate... I did have a belated cake and singing this weekend with my BILs' family from Maui. Except my little 3 year old nephew who was sitting next to me laughably blew out my candles as soon as we were finished singin' happy birthday to Tom... everyone laughed all the harder with his beating me to blowing out the candles!

I am so sorry we did not know!!!:sad1: :sad1: :sad1:

Happy Belated Birthday!!!!

party: :bday: :cake: :cake: :bday: party:

I'll check in later today before I go to the Orioles first home game this afternoon. :thumbsup2

On Monday I went to the Orioles home opening game. It was a good game but it was very cold!

That night at about 9 o'clock my DW and I got VERY sick! I was up every hour that night praying to the "porcelain god"! Most of yesterday is a blur and I feel better today but we did stay home again today. It was the worst I have felt in over 20 years.

Now I am way behind in this thread.
