I'm truly sorry to hear of this....
... as some may already recall - we've had a good friend who has been battling renal cancer - it was diagnosed a little over a year ago as advanced with what we understood to be a prognosis of something like 10% chance of reaching 2 years. Well... she took treatment and had surgery to remove one of her (kidneys?) ... and then they discovered the cancer had spread - and they found a lump in her head (brain) - which they removed. Fortunately, there appears to be no change to her mind or memories. That was a few months ago - and just a week or so back we learned they had found another lump growing in her head. So they're going to try some kind of gamma knife (focused radiation) then probably surgically remove it again. The chemo they've recently started is costing $8000 a month however, it is one of those "new age" medications which is "targeted". It has minimal side effects but is clinically proven to be effective for a significant number of patients. Fortunately, her health insurance is good and is mostly paid for by insurance (whew - Alicia works for the same company - so we now know the health insurance benefits are generous enough).
This has actually been very VERY sad for us and obviously tragic for them - however, we are soldiering on to be supportive and enabling in having good times as usual as much as possible with them. What can anyone really do in times like this... they have a young child and they're approximately our age! Gee...

... I had been driving our friend to her clinical visits - having some long chats with her about all kinds of things ... enuf so to brings some tears to my eyes as I drove at times. Alas, that is how it is sometimes, eh?
