Does anyone have an idea of how many kids will be on the cruise? My DS will be 6 on the cruise and I was wondering how many kids, especially boys there'll be in his age range.

My DD isn't a boy, but she is 5 (or will be next week).

Lots!

Hello??? ... where's the Math Alert?

I've been thinking of all of these "task forces" that are in place for our Repo trip. And, don't get me wrong, I think they are all really great. I'm sure that we are going to have LOADS of fun.

I'm thinking, however, about another possibility. This comes from projects we do with our school children.

Wouldn't it be neat if we all got Disney cards, letters, et cetera ready and sent them to the men and women in our Armed Forces?

They enjoy the letters that they randomly receive from school students throughout our country. What if we Disney fanatics sent them our appreciation for giving us the freedom to go on these cruises as well?

One site that gives a lot of information about letter and supplies is www.lettersfromhomeprogram.org/

Another web site that one can go to for information about how/what to send military personnel is found at www.anysoldier.com

This is a great follow-up, I think, to our Memorial Day remembrances. Now that we have remembered the fallen, let's think about doing something for those presently serving.

We'd love to participate, but I don't have the time to lead a task force.

There should be plenty. I would guess approximately 20 six-year old boys alone on this sailing and 200 children ages 3-7. :)

According to the Piratezone Newsletter, there are 586 passengers registered from DIS, which represents approximately 25% of the ship. Of those, there are 50 children registered between ages 3-7. So, I would guess around 200 children in the 3-7 year-old age group (50 divided by 25%).

Assuming equal age distribution (20% are age 3, 20% are age 4, etc.), then I would expect 40 six-year old children (20% X 200). Assuming 50% are boys, then 20 six-year old boys.:duck:

Okay, then he definitley won't feel lonely. I'm hoping he makes some friends right at the beginning and lets me have some time at the spa and adult pool, I mean has lots of fun in the kids club. :rotfl:

Hey guys!

Just got back from Macy's Herald Square. Got some great bargains for cruise stuff, clothes, etc.

Will try and catch up later!

Have a great day!:)

You forgot to mention your quick side trip to jail!

Well I found out some helpful info just now.
I called and spoke w/ the concierge at the DT.
My plan to get a cab to the port the next morning was pretty much shot. He said all the cabs are going to be at the port trying to get fares going to the airport as the fare is higher. He said they had 2 shuttles that they will try to run to get all of us over there as quick as possible. He said they normally run starting at 11 but they could start earlier. Each shuttle holds 10 people so they would take 2 trips if there were 40 of us.
Concierge also said there was not a place even to walk to except an "upscale" restaurant that would not necessarily be appropriate for kids.
At Ports O' Call Village there are places (mostly fish) that have walk up counters.
He mentioned Acapulco restaurant as a possibility as well.

What a great idea!
I would make sure they are not mailed out of Mexico, as more then 1/2 of our postcards from the 2005 Riviera cruise ports never arrived to the people we sent them to.

Man with sword arrested in department store

The Associated Press

NEW YORK--A man who was carrying a rusted pirate-style sword through Macy's flagship store in Manhattan is facing charges of criminal possession of a weapon.

Police say 29-year-old Lawrence Jackson was brandishing the curved sword while visiting Macy's Herald Square store Sunday with his girlfriend.

He told police he was carrying the sword because he is a member of a kickball team whose players often wear pirate-themed costumes. He maintains he was on his way to a game when he was arrested.

Well, I recommend that you wear a dress with a front. :)
Seriously, guessing what the front looks like, I like it. Very princess-y with all the foof in the back.
:rotfl2:

Sure she can dress up. It's not adults only. It's just that as adults we don't get to get all princessy like the little (under 10 or so) girls do. So we decided that we would pick a night and wear our tiaras and just have fun.
OK, great! Both DD's will probably want to do this!

Sounds like DD's won't have any problems making some friends!

How far away is Ports O' Call, and how do we get there? I'm wanting to go there next week to check out the restaurants.

I think I remember Seaulater mentioning they were expecting 1200 kids on board for our cruise :scared1:

I was going to have Stacey check out the restaurant in the hotel as a dining option. Any thoughts?

CRUISE QUESTION

Does anyone have a good map of Puerto Vallarta?
We are looking at the area around where the shops and restaurants are in town that is near the waterfront area.

Thanks

thank you for looking into this. We were planning on a taxi too - darn. I have a feeling there are more than 40 of us, what do you think(or at least more than two trips with all that luggage!)? I hope they start sooner than 11!!!:)

Ports O'Call is about 1.5-2 miles from the DT. Stacey are you and the moms planning on joining us for dinner the night before?

Here's a link with several PV areas mapped.
http://www.vallarta-info.com/hotelzone.html

On the Hotel Zone, the cruise terminal is at the very top.

Not sure which area you were looking for.
To the North of the terminal is Nuevo Vallarta with restaurants and shops. It's more upscale.
To the South is Downtown and Southside. These are the older areas of town, with more authentic restaurants and shops. Also a flea market which is fun souvenier shopping.

Looks like Roger already answered. I confirmed they are in their free shuttle range.

Supposedly the van holds 10 and luggage (although Roger is correct and possibly not the amount of luggage for this cruise).
He did say they could start earlier so that is good news.

Hi Guys - I sent out several postcards from Cabo San Lucas - two of which were for my two soldiers. One is a CPT and one is enlisted. I can ask them if they received them. I think a lot has to do with where you send them from. 3 were sent directly from the post office they have there which is just past the Pariasno Mall (or something like that) and the others were sent from a red post office dropbox from the above-mentioned mall. I sent them to my mom and I can let you all know if they received them. I don't have internet access to my guys but I can send them a letter and ask them.

By the way, the walk to the post office is about 5 minutes further than the mall but you walk on the main traffic road.

If anyone is interested, I think I sent out to my friends via e-mail that the program - AdoptAUSSoldier was looking for volunteers as they had a massive influx of soldier asking for penpals. The thing with this is that many people go into it expecting that they will be able to write back. Many cannot and so you must just be vigilant enough to write them. I am in two organizations - AskAuntNancy and the one mentioned above - AdoptAUSSoldier. They are both wonderful organizations and believe it or not - for Christmas I received a company photo of my Cpt and his boys. Gues what the photographers knew me as? The crazy lady with the soldiers' photo. But you know what? I didn't care - I got Cpt Thord, Captain Mickey, Tropical Minnie both holding and kissing and even sailor Daisy to kiss my both. They were all wonderful with my little requests. It also made me feel a little better.

Oh yeah - I also sent them a postcard from FL, Castaway Cay and Panama - so I wonder if they have gotten any - keep in mind that these postcards will be mailed "Domestically" meaning that they only require postage the same as to the US. Both of my addresses are mailed to an APO address which means that they are charged domestic rates. This makes for wonderful packages as you can mail via the free shipping boxes the P.O. has - as much weight as possible for like $8.95, $10.95 for the large boxes. And folks, I do pack my packages to the hilt!

If anyone has any further info - you can contact me or try the internet address mentioned above. Just don't forget to put in the correct "prefix" before them.
Someone on the WB posted that they were told that about 1500 kids were scheduled for the EB

I read something like that - although the ship only is supposed to hold 1000 kids. Let me tell you - there were about 500 onboard this one and by midweek of the first week, many parents had given up even attempting to discipline their kids, DH and I ran into many "older" kids that were just deliberately rude. I'm sure that if any of our parents had seen a fraction of what I saw - many would have been  to admit that was their kids. Only once or twice did I see anything that I would consider dangerous but by the 2nd week, many things were disappearing off deck 2. I lost a dry-erase magnet pen that came with my FE gift I got but aphoenix lost their 2005 PC magnet. This was sad to read and I hope they got it back. For this reason alone - I no longer post my magnets unless they are specialized or have my big laminated photo magnet on them. Those are too big to walk off with. It seems as if the personalized ones aren't taken too much which leads me to believe that they are kids doing this so beware ok. Don't put it out if you do not mind taking a chance on losing it.

Hi Chrissy,

Have you checked out the planning boards?
http://www.thepiratezone.us/index.php

You have to register there, and someone should be along to approve your registration failrly quickly. The only reason they have to do that is someone registered a bunch of names from one IP address and were getting ready to fill the board with spam. Anyway, all of the relevant planning stuff is organized very nicely over there. You can find threads on transportation, pre-cruise plans, and plans split up for each day of the cruise. If you don't find what you need there, post any specific questions that you have and someone will answer them pretty quickly.

Interesting. I heard they had begun punishing the "low life" types who think spamming is a pleasurable endeavor. In reality it is looked down upon as less then trash by most.... with the purveyors having less standing on the food chain than paramecium...
