good evening everyone...
today was just a crappy day...and i need to vent! actually it's been a bad weekend! on friday, a group of my ds's friends who are only 9 yrs old, decided to bike ride down our huge steep hill outback. (ds was not involved, cuz i don't let him ride around town on his own yet.) these friends were given free roam to go wherever they wanted...and they decided to thrill ride down the huge hill. dh and i hate to see the kids do this, cuz we live at an intersection...when the kids go down, they can't stop, and they go flying thru the intersection. when i happened to catch them do this on friday, i looked just in time to see my good friends ds come to a screeching halt as a car slammed on its brakes only feet away from him. needless to say, i was very shaken to see one of my ds friends almost get hit by a car! i yelled to the boys that i needed to talk to them, and told them how dangerous it was...they all know that....they've seen us yell at others who come down the hill. i called the dad who was supposed to be keeping an eye on these boys...and asked him if he had any idea where the kids were...and he didn't! just said they were out riding bikes thru town! they are only 9...and they all just turned 9 within the last 3-5 months. (i felt horrible for my friend cuz she left her ds with the other dad cuz she had to go out of town..so, she had no clue about this and it was her kid that almost got hit!) the dad has said that i am overreacting...boys will be boys....gotta let them learn responsibility..etc. he's still ticked at me now! but i really don't care! i guess that he thinks if a kid gets hit by a car, that teaches him something....ugh! the dad and mom have been badmouthing me to others all weekend cuz i yelled at the kids for coming down the steep hill. grr! it ticks me off so much!
so, then today, we had to go to the little league field to watch oldest ds play baseball...and while there, i took my youngest to the playground. the ice cream truck came thru and even though i was right there with him, my 5 yr old darted for the truck! he ended up in the road before i could catch him....and i freaked! my dd saw that ds was running for the truck,(and she thought i was too, cuz i was chasing ds)....so she decided that she should run to the truck too. so, not only did my 5yr old run into the road while i was watching...my 8yr old dd did too! thank goodness there were no cars coming, but i cringe when i think of what might have been. just really frustrates me, cuz i am constantly on my kids about street safety! on friday i watch as kids were given the ok to roam the roads on bikes, and on sunday, i watch my own kids run right into the road! after my own did that, i had a bit of a meltdown...came home, went onto my porch, and had a good cry! i know you can't always have control of your kids...but man...today was just too frightening for me. made me realize i need to hug my dk's a bit tighter, cuz you never know....

Do you know it was closed?

Well just want to say I wanted to post I got my ressies last night, went forward to May 19th, went online and thought I will get them now and return, but all I can say is Scuba-Mickeys for three hours!

Thanks for the vote of confidance on DCL site!!!:rotfl2: By the way their was a mistake and the onboard credit should be given to 7054!!:lmao:

HMMM .... wonder if he might be able to do an informal vow renewal? Please Fr. Mike, Please?

Oh that would be so much fun!!! John and I did vow renewal at 33 years but would love to do it for our 40th this year!!!:goodvibes

We just got our flight to LA, car reservation, travel Ins. Now I finally feel like I am in full planning mode. It does make the trip a little bit more real to us .
Just make an appointment to get the things scratched off your list. We also paid alot of $$ for the one way ticket but at least we have a flight for now.

No backing out now!!!!

Was pleasantly surprised yesterday....

My son had gotten notice that he had received second place in a "create and earth day bumper sticker contest" and we should stop by the Earth Day Festival at the County Park.

We just assumed it was second place in his class or school, turns out it was second place in his age group in whole county! He was called up on stage and given a gift cert to Barnes and Noble.

We were the every embarrassing proud parents!

Wow!!!! I would be very proud too!!!
GREATWORKANIM_FLYBEE-vi-1.gif

They had fun at the Earth Day event too

That is way too cool!!! I could live in my own bubble!!!:cool1:

I hate to fly, so if there is ANY way to go non stop, we do it. Thus, many trips to O'hare (about an hour and 30 minutes from us). With a grumbling husband as he says I am insane...Come on, with all the kids...switching planes, BAD IDEA. Right? It has nothing to do with my phobia...I swear!

Are you leaving from O'hare for the TOAL???:confused3

Good Morning pirate:

You have quite a collection of crew in your signature!!!:rolleyes1 Congrats Tom. You all deserve it for being up so early on a Sunday.:woohoo:

Same birthday months as us! DH is June 3rd and I am July 26th. Anniversary is July 23rd!

Keeping my fingers crossed!

My birthday is July 30th and my Anniversary is July 13th!! Must be a great month.:rolleyes1 :rolleyes1 There are a lot of us Leos on this thread!!:woohoo:

I'll look on Piratezone, also....But, I told 17dd that I would ask here. She has posted on the kids dis thread for this cruise and so far the oldest *kid* is 14. She was looking to connect with some 16/17 before the cruise.
She is extremely quiet -- but, get her on anything Disney and she comes ALIVE! LOL!

Tell Samantha she can hang with me if she can keep up with me!!!:rotfl:

We paid more than $200 per person non-stop from Boston. It was a bit more than if we went Southwest, but I am not a fan of flying so it had to be non-stop!
Okay I think I'm all caught up now it's off to food shopping! The fun just never ends around here!

I was going to call you and got side-tracked again!!! I then forgot it is almost 11 pm. by you.

Been so busy the past 2 days, so I just went back a few pages to read. If I missed anything important please let me know.

My Mom has been driving me crazy for the past few weeks. Well after my being diagnosed with breast cancer last year, she finally agreed to go for a mammogram in Feb. (her last one was 20 years ago) Well, she now knows that she has breast cancer too and needs surgery. It is like dealing with a stinky teen, she is so irrational:mad: She keeps changing her mind about what kind of treatment she wants I can't keep up with her mood changes and irrational questions. She often ignores my advice.

Anyway, people please make sure that the women in your life get their mammograms. Catching breast cancer early makes the treatment so much easier. Here's a bit of trivia-about 70% of women diagnosed with breast cancer have no family history. My Mom was convinced she didn't need mammograms because there was no family history and because she did self exams. Obviously she was wrong. I had been nagging her for years to get her mammograms. It really makes me mad that it took my being diagnosed for her to finally get one End of sermon:rolleyes:

I am one of the 70% too!!! :sad2: The good thing is I am here to talk about it!! I wish your Mom the very best!!!:flower3:

Sorry to hear about your Mom. I went through it with my Dad when he was diagnosed with lung cancer. He refused treatment altogether and it was maddening.

You give good advice.....I am one of the 70% that had NO family history, on either side, of breast cancer.

Now that makes 3 of us!!!

It's going good, thanks. I am done on April 30th. Just started to feel the side effects this past week, but very tolerable.

The nice side effect is I never burn from the sun anymore after my radiation treatment!!:cheer2: Glad it is tolerable but remember there is Aquaphor if you do burn from treatment!!

Hey don't blame me...I went so cheap i ONLY did pool view. (bldg 2 i think)

Gotta have the extra bucks for drinks (i mean pictures ;) ) ya know....

Actually, pool view is no longer "cheap".....it's $10 per night more than what I'm paying ($114). I'm frustrated as if I change my whole reservation, I've got to pay $10 per night extra for the "cheap" room. So now I'm looking into staying close to Legoland the first two nights and then transferring up to HoJo's on our current reservation the last three nights before the cruise.

the dad has said that i am overreacting...boys will be boys....gotta let them learn responsibility..etc. he's still ticked at me now! but i really don't care! i guess that he thinks if a kid gets hit by a car, that teaches him something....ugh! the dad and mom have been badmouthing me to others all weekend cuz i yelled at the kids for coming down the steep hill. grr! it ticks me off so much

{{}} I would have been yelling at the kids, too! My kids that age have to ride where I can see them at all times!

my 5 yr old darted for the truck! he ended up in the road before i could catch him....and i freaked! my dd saw that ds was running for the truck,(and she thought i was too, cuz i was chasing ds)....so she decided that she should run to the truck too. so, not only did my 5yr old run into the road while i was watching...my 8yr old dd did too! thank goodness there were no cars coming, but i cringe when i think of what might have been

I hate when my kids do things like that -- in our house it's 6dd. She KNOWS not to run into the street (or parking lot) but, she still does! One of us is constantly trying to grab her to either stop her or slow her down!
Can I tell you that as a mom I *LOL* when I read the part about your 8dd thinking that you were running after the Ice Cream truck so, she took off? Do you often chase the Ice Cream truck? ;)

after my own did that, i had a bit of a meltdown...came home, went onto my porch, and had a good cry! i know you can't always have control of your kids...but man...today was just too frightening for me. made me realize i need to hug my dk's a bit tighter, cuz you never know....

 I'm the mom of 5 (28ds, 24dd, 17dd, 10ds & 6dd) and I feel like I have been there/done that with just about everything!

My birthday is July 30th and my Anniversary is July 13th!! Must be a great month.:rolleyes1 :rolleyes1 There are a lot of us Leos on this thread!!:woohoo:

Strong and bossy? Or is that just me? I usually blame it on the fact that I'm an oldest child and a mom. :rotfl: :rotfl:

Tell Samantha she can hang with me if she can keep up with me!!!:rotfl:

Can anyone keep up with you???? ;) I told her about Fr Mike's offer on the board, she got on the Dis and then gets excited and says *I didn't Cheryl and John are Catholic!* *Now I know why I like them so much.* :rotfl: But, Samantha is much more conservative then you! LOL! She may be more conservative then me!

YUCKY! I totally know how you feel. You think you do everything you can, but you never know what is around the corner. Just like Dory says though...

"Well, you can't never let anything happen to him. Then nothing would ever happen to him. Not much fun for little Harpo. "

Hang in there and give extra hugs!

i just went up and checked on all 3dk's...and they look sooo peaceful sleeping! ugh! what a day we've had....

Are you leaving from O'hare for the TOAL???:confused3

Nope, my DH and DD3 are flying Airtran non stop from Milwaukee to LAX. $109!!! So excited about that one.

The older kids and I are taking the train from Milwaukee-Chicago-Los Angeles. We love to travel by train as it is soooooo relaxing! Great way to start an awesome trip!

Hmmmm, I'm a Leo, strong, control freak and to make it worse...ONLY CHILD!

I have changed quite a bit now that I have 5 kids...I really really laugh ALOT!

I figure it is either laugh or cry, so I really really laugh a ton!

Real question coming...

If you were to ask for Disney dollars or something along the line from family/friends etc for the trip. What would you request?

We have 2 B-days coming up before the trip and our 15th Anniversary is a few weeks before the trip. And I don't need anything, so on board credits or Disney dollar or something would be great. But I am not sure how to request it...

I'd be asking for Disney $ but it depends on how the gift givers feel about giving "cash".

Do you have before and after plans for TOAL? Could you get them to make an ADR and pay for the meal? Or what about getting them to spring for a shore excursion?

More great ideas...the last cruise that we were on was with my In-laws. For Christmas, they gave each of us one excursion. It was really fun to have something awesome to do and not have to worry about the cost! Then, after the trip, they gave each of the kids a souvineer that would remind them of the excursion they had paid for. Very nice idea!

If anyone wants to get either one of us birthday presents, just read the above posts!!!

I can't believe it's below freezing & everything is still so green & beautiful. I mean I believe you unlike Crash, but it looks amazing there. Love the house! :thumbsup2

Well its was 4C this morning but is up to about 16C now - sun is about to go so it will get cold really quickly. The photo doesn't really show it but its looking very autumnal now, lots of leaves around - just the photo has lots of evergreen plants in it :)

Shannon it is so scary when you see your own child heading for danger. We have all had those experiences at some point. But it is a totally different situation when they are left unsupervised to roam and do whatever they please. I would have yelled at those kids too.

Shannon....

As most of you may know I'm the SAHD in our family - and as such I'm regularly tasked with being watchful over our kids. Well, it comes to pass I am doing as MOST of us are sure to do - and try to be exxtra careful to teach and guide the kids about the hazard of cars and stepping into a street or parking lot.

Well... there are occassions when the kids step off and not look properly - as I'm usually watching them to see how they are behaving at street hazards ... they're always at my side when it happens so I remind them "did you look".... "do you know what you're looking for".... and so on.

Well... as it just so happens - the other day the kids and I had taken thier scooters to the park. That involved going on the sidewalk perhaps a mile or so to get to the park. Well, Julianna is pretty good about ALWAYS stopping for me to accompany her at every intersection crossing and so on. That's good, eh? Well - that afternoon another parent at the park was recanting in casual conversation how another family whom I was vaguely familiar with had an accident late last year. Thier daughters were going somewhere in the neighborhood on thier BIKES and the Dad was steps behind both as they headed through town - when the leading daughter was run OVER by a neighbor backing out of their driveway! Fortunately, she survived in spite of her extremely serious accident.

bikeax32.jpg

I felt terrible on hearing this - and thought about how I had NEVER mentioned to Julianna to watch for cars backing out of the driveways. Often I would let her skate ahead of me to the next intersection while I closely escorted her younger sister. And hence, in effect, we were fully exposed to the kind of hazard our neighbor had tragicly encountered. Later on returning home we had a closely escorted trip back as I began to explain this new hazard to Julianna.

0722-1033_Getting_There_Safely.jpg

So.... Shannon.... I have nothing but respectful appreciation for what you've been guarding against with the unsupervised boys... and your excited kids sprinting for the I-C truck. Frankly, it does seem to happen pretty often... and I can only agree with YOU that it is far wiser to take a protective and informed approach to road hazards. The Dad who was unconcerned with the boys who said they should learn their lessons the hard way .... well, all I can say is he is being just plain dumb. He seems ill prepared to "parent" or take significant interest in his children - or the children who were left in his care (how ironic). He is a sad case of the Dad who is just waiting for a tragedy to happen - and who might sadly receive a harsh lesson of his own at the expense of the kids in his "care".

KOKS%20med.jpg

I might add that some may recall that I was hit by a car when riding a bike. I was in a 180 mile benefit ride to raise money for Multiple Sclorosis - in the bike lane when a young man turned across traffic into a driveway - cutting between oncoming cars as he was trying to be in a hurry it seems. Well, he avoided the cars but failed to see me and he more or less ran right over my bike. I flew off my bike into my own handlebars first which broke my hip - and this threw me into another car. Along the way I broke my wrist. This young man was a fine example of irresponsible driving as he had just been in another accident a month or so earlier - and had NO insurance. The Ignoramious had no business driving if you ask me. With drivers like that on the road - parents everywhere would be WISE to guide their children as to the hazards other drivers pose. Even good drivers can be caught off guard.

Shannon.... as such, you get some rest on this issue - then you just resume your normal conduct because YOU are right to act as you have been. You are certain to be several steps closer to keeping the kids in your care SAFE.... and you ARE the good Mom. No doubt about it in MY book! Regretfully, as Charles Darwin says - in the long run natural selection will weed out the genes of the truly irresponsible parents. While those of us making steady effort towards being good parents probably stand a better chance of getting our kids through thier childhood safely.

I saw those. Do you think the sheepskins are going to get cruddy?

DD has had them for a week and used them - she lives in flip flops - I guess its all in how you handle your shoes - me - I'm a grunger with shoes but my Uggs - them I take care of! :)

Same birthday months as us! DH is June 3rd and I am July 26th. Anniversary is July 23rd!

Keeping my fingers crossed!

We need a calender for all the Leos ourselves - put me down for July 23rd with an anniversary of July 21st. DD 20 soon to be 21 gets cusp rights (which may be why we tend to take turns outstaring each other) since she's July 20th. Hey :confused3 I was busy ok! :lmao:

Mike, this is just what Andrew and I DO . . . jump in and come along for the ride -- it's a lot of fun:goodvibes

(But seriously, you should see him selecting his wine package, or the type of champagne he has delivered to his stateroom on embarkation . . .)

Oh Mike - its really fun watching them - its like ping pong - one goes WHOOSH! and the other goes SLAP!

Its a lot of fun to watch! :rotfl:

OK after catching up on over 40 pages I have got to get to bed - talk to you all later.

G'mornin' pirate:s

Monnica - I was glad to find out Trevoy is safe after I posted the other night.

Congrats!
Oh look. It's melt the ice and have community events at the ice rink time!

Great pic Tom.

Its amazing how many of the batting shots, the kids have their eyes closed too.... :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I noticed that too!

ok i hope M didn't float away.... It's been pouring rain here in DC area since wee hours this morning. Thunder and lighting too...

Makes for a pleasant packing experience....

Yes, we did in fact float away. Thank you for your concern.
Brief thunderstorm in the middle of the night - kids slept through it.
When we got up in the morning it was cloudy, but otherwise pleasant. Had breakfast & the kids went to the river to fish. I stayed behind to take down the tent just in case it started to rain. Well, I got everything out of the tent and it started POURING - like I was soaked within 15 seconds. I just tossed everything in the back of the SUV and we headed home.

WARNING : PLANNING ALERT - pirate: PIRATE BUS

I've finally had a chance to do some Pirate Bus "ketchup". Below is a list of all the people who have PM me about being interested in a Bus to Port from the DL area.

We are aiming to be at the Port early - with a possible liquor/water stop.
If you see any errors or would like to be on the Pirate Bus - please PM me.
I'm also going to set up a thread on the pirate zone for the Pirate Bus.

YAY! I like early. Thank you so much for organizing.

OK..

Who forgot to mention the blood and guts factor on that movie? M....?:confused3

We rented the movie. I loved the singing...

It's hard though to see JD as anything other than the Capt of course...

Kinda weird at the begining to see him on a ship too. (ooh look kids the Black Pearl...oh wait a dead body...:rotfl: )

I did almost lose my lunch though....

Umm, I'm pretty sure I mentioned it. You see, it is a movie about a guy who kills people with a strait razor and then his neighbor bakes them into pies...

The gore factor didn't bother me. I thought the movie was beautiful.

In all fairness, I did say when it first came out (or maybe before, even, based on the Broadway version) that I feared it would be too bloody for an "art" audience and too "arty" for a slasher movie audience, and that it might have problems at the box office because of that (but I think it did quite well in the end).

I also remember posting that I didn't like the way they did all those serial bloody killings during the reprise of the song "Joanna" near the end, because on Broadway it was a very touching song as sung by Sweeney, but it didn't come across that way with all the spurting blood . . .

So you just didn't read my posts!:)

I agree, but IMO By The Sea made up for it. Much more fun in the movie.

Hi Gang,

Wow - Wendy & I must be on the same wave length - I got out my planning folder this weekend for both the Bus Info and the Brunch/Tea info.
It's getting close enough to get some price quotes.

Any thoughts on a day for Palo tea?

Well I am somewhat caught up. Early day tomorrow, having people putting up 6 ft. fence in backyard. Never thought I would be so excited about a fence before. Have a good night everyone.

Good fences make good neighbors.

good evening everyone...
today was just a crappy day...and i need to vent!

Yikes. I'm sorry for your lousy day.
Just goes to show that all kids can be stupid - no matter how well they are raised. (I tell myself that a lot...)

Hey M, how many more Mondays 'til TOAL ?

Have a good one everyone.
