Sorry didn't make it to chat. Cooking all day and barely making it thru some TV shows.
I found the mother lode of the POC sunblock. Bought a few for Cheryl. The DT in Apopka had the entire endcap full of them. It is a really big store and I had a hunch they would carry it.

Yes the lovebugs should start about now. The thing with them is you get so desensitized and don't even realize they are flying around you. It is not until you see their remains all over the car you realize they have come back.

Well calling it a night.

We had a small quake here in Fl last year? I And we had one on L.I. in 86. Both times it felt like a slight vibration . I noticed the one here at work as my bobblehead on my computer at the time started shaking. The one in NY the house felt like it did when the house was being built next door and the bulldozers were moving around. It was the fact that the antenna we had on the tv in the bedroom started banging on the window that woke me up. Otherwise I never would have felt it.

I got to "enjoy" the Loma Prieta quake in 89. I learned, to my surprise, that office buildings are designed with automatic earthquake detectors. Upon detecting an earthquake, all the plaster ceiling tiles are immediately dropped, scattering chunks of tile over people, computers, etc. (good thing they are light).

Although the Coors example was intended to be funny, it is a huge issue.

A person I work with on some multistate projects is the state emergency management chief for a very large southeast peninsular state. He points out (through drills he runs) that most hospitals and other health care run on "just in time ordering". Within the fault zone is a major shipping operation (fed ex?). Without them, how long before hospitals run out of drugs, blood, etc. Without ability to ship via rail or truck across mississippi, how long before food supplies in NYC start running low and food starts rotting in Kansas?

It is a fascinating discussion for us "worst case scenario" types. (Did I mention my DW calls me "Mr. Worst Case Scenario?")

This points out the big difference between West Coast people and the rest of the country regarding earthquakes. Most people outside of the west coast don't keep the recommended 10 days of emergency supplies on hand. Califronians, on the other hand, almost all have 10 days of emergency supplies dated from right after the previous earthquake (most of which is now well past its expiration date).

For us, we had to PAY $30 to get a recycling bin. We put all of our recyclibles (spelling??) into it including platics through #8, paper, glass, cardboard, etc. We then set it out every other Friday (today was recycling day) and it gets picked up by the city.

I still wonder why they made us pay to do this.....if we didn't care, we could have just dumped it in with the rest of the garbage in the "free" trash bin that the city provides.

I'll give San Jose credit for being remarkably smart about this one. They charge a small fortune for regular garbage pickup, but you can get any size recycling bin for free and (as in your case), you just set it out with the trash and don't have to worry about separating different types of recycling.

Living on the other side of the pacific rim of fire, we get our fair share of Earthquakes too. One of our tasks for tomorrow is to check our emergency kit and see what food items need swapping out for new ones. We have about 5 days worth of food in the kit which we keep in our garden shed along with a huge sealed container with water. We figured even if the roof collapsed on the house by day 5 we'd have probably made it to the pantry to get more food supplies - or raided the supermarket over the road.

This site shows the last 30 earthquakes in NZ http://www.geonet.org.nz/earthquake/quakes/recent_quakes.html - pretty much about 1 per day but most aren't even felt. We get a pretty decent jolt about once a year - just to keep us on our toes.

Its taken me ages tonight to loan a new Norton Internet security program onto this laptop, but at least is working now,

Its has a new top notch filter against anything undiserable....

So it blocks all Tom's (Captain Crash's) pictures!

(Sorry boss!)

Must be all thoose hidden worms!

Yeah - that was on southwest. I looked at Frontier and it was $175 to Sac.... so far $115 was the cheapest I could find.

Penny

We snagged United for $180 from MCO to LAX. Tonite United only has $225 as their lowest fare. Gee.... I wish I could get a one way from MCO for $115. I would snap that one up if I were you.

...[ed]...

yep...i had a whopping $7.35 and the back of my van was filled...and i had the seats down.

i always start off really good....thinking i'll take it back before it gets overwhelming....but i never make good on that thought! it's always very overwhelming....which makes me put it off even longer. vicious cycle!

Math alert!

Well now... lets see...

If you collected 50% more in proceeds ($) than I ... and I only had my front passenger seat filled with bags of recycle stuff ... while you had the back of your VAN filled.... then I think I got the better half of the deal! Good thing I loaded those aluminum cans with sand before I had them weighed for recycling credit! :goodvibes

good morning all, we have an 8:00 am game today :scared1: Need to be at the field by 7:30. :scared1: :scared1: Unless it really is Sunday in which case I can go back to bed for two more hours.

Have a great one.

... it's only SUnday if you're in the UK - as Andrew can attest to. So you go ahead and get some extra rest! :surfweb: If ya get inta any trouble because you're now LATE... then just blame Andrew. ME, I'm completely INNOCENT as I'm just passing along the "gospel" from an otherwise reliable (if a bit quirky as a Time Lord in training) DIS neighbor. :hippie:

OK I never actually LOL this early in the morning, especially on a Saturday (Sunday?), but you just made my morning. Thanks Roger.

Alaska's earthquake map looks a lot like that. Heck, with my always prepared DH, we have 3 days supply of food in our CARS!

I have 8.5 hours at the ballfield in my future today, but at least it doesn't start at 7:30!

8:30 photos
10:30 game
11:30 photo
12:30 snack bar duty
2:30 game
Then we rush over (late) to the Cub Scout overnighter. DS9 also has a game Sunday right after the campout.

Catch up with you tomorrow some time.

Are we having pirate chat on Sunday, May 18th?

I'm hoping so, as I know it would definitely help me stay up for the BIG EVENT.

Diane could bring the cocktails.

Good morning have a good Sunday.

You are trying to take away a weekend day, Andrew? What the heck is up? :confused3 I could understand rushing the weekdays, but the weekend????

It's SATURDAY . . . that means we still get SUNDAY tomorrow before Monday . . .:goodvibes

I can only blame the Doctor and his TARDIS, it never goes exactly where you want it to go, time or place. So sorry if there was a time slip and its still Saturday.

Anyway I enjoyed the Panama cruise, now I can look forward, ( or backward) to the 2009 Eastern cruise.

Pity I missed my birthday!:cool1:

Just come back to today and do the cruise all over again when August comes . . . there's no restriction on that with time travel, right?:)

Actually YES, one person is not allowed to go over the same time line for another time, or it causes so much terrible consequences, just remember when you see me in the summer, it was me taking the cruise last week, If you understand.

(There again, I might be just trying to wriggle out of a XXXX up made when I was half asleep this morning, and will do the cruise,!):lmao:

There’s always one in the bunch.

Tyreak and I both love this teacher. However, I was furious with her tonight. I can’t understand why she would have a problem with him missing school to go on a college tour.

I wonder how she feels about the track team missing two days next week to attend the Penn Relays?

Sorry to hear that DJ. I would be upset with her too:hug:

Hope everyone in Illinois and Kentucky is safe and sound from the early morning earthquakes.

I slept right through it. But different people I talked to really felt it.

61 currently here in Sunny Longwood. (Just north of Orlando):goodvibes
High of 80

Lots of food shopping today. Saw DS last night for dinner and he has lost around 25 lbs so far and is looking good. I'm glad for him. He really needed some motivation to take off the weight. I will try to get to the gym today as well. :thumbsup2

:cool1: :cool1: Big congrats to your ds:cool1: :cool1:

Hey everybody - may be a day late but looks like DCL has assigned us a room - no more guarantee for us. Bad News? No upgrade - we are stuck on lowly deck 2 YET AGAIN - in a Cat 9 - oh well, at least I'm on here. And hopefully - DCL gets the notice for the 5-day and we get to stay in the same cabin this way we only have to disembark our bodies and not our luggage. We shall see.

OK - gotta get to bed - its late and I haven't been up this late since before I quit drinking caffeine! :scared1:

I'm gonna check mine now when I catch up here:goodvibes I am hoping to stay in the same room for the 5 nighter too--I have that room

Okay...I'm not crazy (yet)....but I was in our parish Chapel for Eucharistic Adoration this morning from 5-6am. I felt this all the way in Ohio! My pew was shaking, and the candles on the altar were as well. I came home and asked my husband if he felt a tremor, and that's when he informed me it had actually occurred. While in the Chapel, I questioned whether or not "He" was trying to tell me something!

I am sure that did cross your mind!!:lmao:

I'm amazed.....there are so many "smarties" on this cruise. Makes me feel safe because if we end up marooned on a deserted island, we will have a coconut radio in no time!

No, with this group, more like some coconut bras and lots of tropical drink concoctions. But no boat.

But at least for once when I ask my wife if the Earth moved, she can answer 'yes, yes it did'.

:lmao: :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :lmao: :lmao:

Yeah, there are several "banned from the Dis for life" responses there.

I'll have to check that thread out:scared1:
