Hey Julie....are you feeling better?

Not so much, but I always find that complaining always makes me feel worse and sorry for myself, so I'll just state that

"I'm not dead yet"

Thanks for asking, though!:lovestruc

OMG! 3 hours to get home tonight.
I travel a whopping 6 miles by car, along your typical major surface street (shopping centers, fast food, etc.) Well, that road was closed tonight due to an accident - both directions. AND all the other routes were insane AND the police weren't letting anyone turn left anywhere. SO I went several miles out of my way in order to turn left, which was necessary to get home. AND it was my night to pick up the boys since DH has class. After-school care closes at 6:15. I got there at 7. And all this before the freezing rain started. DH just went back to his office after class. He may just sleep there.
SO instead of a quick dinner and heading to the gym, we had pizza rolls and chicken fries & now I'm on the couch in my jammies.

Why, oh why, do people live here!

I want to go home.

Why, oh why and why so darn many?

I believe the resolution needs to be a little higher. Besides, most of the "good" images to rip are locked up (and lost in among the 1000s of postings) on the original thread. AND... my time (contrary to what some might think) is NOT unlimited.

Besides, I was not sure if Andrew wanted me to mix his "INNNOCENT" mug with a known character of questionable "INNOCENCE" (as implied by some). :lmao:

At any rate, I was going to say nothing for a few days - but earlier today we recieved news that a good friend of ours - roughly our age - one who had surgery a year or so ago to remove a kidney (I think) due to kidney cancer... well, we noticed she had not been hanging around with us much in the past 2-3 weeks... and today we found out that tomorrow she will go in for surgery - they found a cancerous growth in the brain and this is .... bad. I'm not feeling all so hot or happy go lucky today. Not that I'm fishing for sympathy in supporting my playful assertions of innocence. Frankly, it's a thankful escape to be here sometimes cracking jokes and reading everyone elses' banter - and today has been one of those rare days when I could use - or needed a little bit of a diversion.

At any rate, it's so sad since our friend JEAN has a 2 year old boy and husband to survive her if things don't turn around. And we've been rallying with her family to add a few smiles to this year... more so then our usual neighborly friendship over the years. Know what I mean? We knew the odds were not good at all for her survival over 2 years - but it's different when it's happening. At any rate,... I don't mean to be a dampener for others - just it's a sort of sad day for our family.

I have to run now... cheers.

Tom, know that Jean and her family are in our prayers. I know how rough this is especially when it is some of you same age.

If something were to happen to you, could you pin a note on you indicating that you still will be going on the cruise. With you and Lisa as chair holders I might actually get to sit next to the pool. :lmao:

Sorry to hear that you are under the weather. Feel better soon.:)

I know how you feel . . . a very good friend of mine just found out about 10 days ago that his cancer has returned after over a year of being in remission and is in lungs and liver . . . survival will be in terms of months rather than years at this point. He and I were talking last week and he says that it really doesn't do any good to say "I don't deserve this" because none of us really did anything to deserve living in the first place, either. Life was a gift so what days we do get are all a bonus, really.

At any rate, I don't generally talk about things like this, but I wanted to reach out since you are expressing a situation that I am definitely going through right now, and I know it is hard.

All the chatter on this thread can really lift the spirits!!!!!

I want to go home.

We had the same:sad2:

Dh and I commute from Arlington to Fairfax VA and normally it is about 45 minutes-an hour. Tonight it was more than 3 hours stuck in traffic:headache:
My DH is horrible when he gets stuck in traffic and I had to listen to him rant for quite a while:sick:

For the record, this isn't normal for us M,

Darren said (during one of his sane moments:rolleyes: ) that he hasn't seen it this bad since 9/11:confused3

Luckily we had a friend pick up our daughter from daycare and she bought our kids McDonalds for dinner:goodvibes
Thank God for friends:cloud9:

You know - I think I might be persuaded to hunt down a picture of Andrew for a price???? :rolleyes1

Do it, do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And congrats on the winnings . . . I believe as long as you are under $10,000 it doesn't get reported . . .:goodvibes

But did you remember to stop and vote? :lmao:

Hope she pulls a "Lance Armstrong" and surprises everyone:hug:

OMG! 3 hours to get home tonight.

2.5 hours was my all time worst...Lanham to Gaithersburg

Did the after-school charge you $$$ extra?

Why, oh why, do people live here!

It's not for the climate or for the $$$...That's for sure.

I must be. No snow. Freezing rain right now. That's fun.

I hope you didn't get up early to vote!

Nahhh!!! We had off today. (DD and I) I went to the gym in the later am with all those non-working and/or 2nd shift types and then drove by the park so dd could take a couple snow pictures with the snow setting on her camera and then went to vote.

When i went to vote the line was very very minimal (i think maybe 2 people ahead of me)

I doubt they would let my three girls carry a corpse onto the ship as their legal guardian, but they could always try . . .

Of course if I die and don't get to go, that opens up an assigned cat 6 (6050) for those of you who are GTY . . .

My get well wishes may go way down with that thought . . .

Hmm, friends. I'll have to try to get me some of those. That's what was so frustrating, we don't have a support system here - there was no one for me to call. People around here don't seem to be terribly friendly.

I can't imagine what driving the whole way home would be like. I Metro until the end of the line and drive 6 miles on US-1 in Alexandria.

So what do you think? School closed tomorrow or just a 2 hour delay?

ok

Depressed myself tonight....

I did my taxes and we are only getting back a little under $3K ....

While that's a little less than last year i still had been hoping for more for some reason.

While that will put a pretty good dent in our TOAL. It won't cover the balance entirely.

Time to go to plan B - Gotta go see a man about a bank....

I'm going with closed as we've only used two snow days so far...

Although sometimes we need those days later in the year...

Case in point - 3 feet of snow on presidents day in 2003 and the kids were off an entire week.

The weather report said 50 degrees for tomorrow, so most likely everything should be fine, but I wouldn't be shocked if there was a delay. They are extremely cautious here when it comes to the school and weather.

Took us a while to make friends here too. Lots of people have moved from our neighborhood since we got here. (For the record-Not that we did anything:rolleyes1
One couple got divorced and the other retired:confused3)

Gotta go make friends with my DH (we were both very irritable when we got home today:rolleyes: )

Hey, My wife's a cat 6 GTY!!!!

Just kidding! We want you on the cruise. Get better soon.

(Besides, my cat 11 is already assigned on the other side of the ship. I'll have to pick off someone over there!)

I won't even make all the obvious jokes about you and your wife being in the nearby yet separate cabins . . .:goodvibes

I'm not that sick -- just a junky cold with bad cough and aches . . . it's just that Crash recently posted some dire warning about deaths from the flu in otherwise healthy people, so the death references just keep coming!:goodvibes

We had a lot of snow today -- more than the city was expecting, so they didn't start plowing right away . . . but luckily I don't have to drive anywhere so it was actually sort of beautiful to walk through to pick up my youngest from school . . . I didn't go to work to try to get better. My middle daughter was in a car after school with some friends going to see a basketball game at a local boys' school (they are at an all-girls' school, so this had real appeal) and the car did get stuck on one of the hilly streets in Carnegie Hill on the way back . . . she just walked home from there, though.

I really do love not being part of a car culture, every day but especially when I hear these commuting horror stories.
