Ever since The Children's Place took over all the Disney Stores (except the ones at WDW & Disneyland) ours doesn't have clothing for adults anymore, and it doesn't have very many for kids. It has games, toys, videos, etc....and costumes....but that's about all. Not even very many plush any more. :sad1:

I agree! I miss the days when I used to get some neat things.

Hey Todd, er Captain. DD and I will be mother & daughter Chinese Elizabeths, since we have them and I don't have to sew them!

:woohoo:

I must say - though in shooting some test shots - it "sounds" weird. But I've been shooting with my 30 for about 2 yrs now and got used to the sound of that.

CONGRATS! We'll have to talk shop on board. OH! BTW, was at Target yesterday the one here in SoCal had a 75-300mm lens - not image stablized but still a 70-300mm on sale for $199.99. :scared1: It works for both conventional and digital and I remember what I paid for mine.... um about 7 yrs ago! It was definitely not $200.

I just fired it up (I think I broke the bank buying one 8G Xtreme III and three 4G Xtreme III CF cards). It does sound different - almost 'too light', in the mirror/shutter dept. The 40D is a replacement for my 10D (and the wife's 20D).

I'll see what it can do tomorrow, the sun is slowly sinking here, and I can't summon the energy to drive the 2 miles to the coast for Sunset LOL.

I did notice that the Raw images are between 11MB and 15MB a piece - yowser.

Andy

Debi...I loved, loved, loved the pictures from your school!!! Too doggone cute!! :lovestruc :lovestruc

Thank you. I would have posted more, but didn't want to take up any more space. The kids were very suprised and happy to see me there. They were so fun to watch. 95% of our kids are fostered.

We even had a "Disco Ball"

i'm hoping to get my kids signed up here on the dis tomorrow, so they can start chatting on the kids thread. i remember someone asking how they signed up the kids...did you use your own bday? or do you actually send in the fax that is required?

We sponsor an Elementary school at work in an underpriveledged area. All of our fundraising goes to the school. We have paid for the school field trips busses, otherwise they could not afford to even go on a field trip. We found out the principal of the school was using his own money to stock a "birthday closet". Turns out the present the kids get from the principal are often times their only birthday gift. :guilty: We completely funded his closet for the year. I also found out our sales dept on their own time completely renovated the teacher lounge. I thought that was so sweet of them.
Every year at our Christmas party at work the kids would come and sing Christmas songs. It was our highlight every year.
That must be hard to see kids that are in need every day and not be able to solve all their problems.

I told folks in chat, but figured everyone else would be interested too.

DS went back to school this week. :cool1:
And lasted all day, every day. :cool1: :cool1:

He was in school more this week than he has been in the last 2 months.

He's in an awesome class now. Only 7 (maybe 8) kids. One teacher and 2 aides. They kids are all working at their own level, so no trying to keep up wth the rest of the class. The teacher starts off each day with a Life Skills session. She checks in with each person to see what their emotional state is. And she works on skills for anger management, socialization, etc.

The kids earn points throughout the week and Friday is always an easier day than the rest. They can spend their points for little trinkets or save up for bigger ticket items like no homework or computer time. They also spend points throughout the week if they misbehave or curse in class.

We're hoping to get him caught up so he doesn't have to repeat the grade. Since his curriculum is individualized he won't have to do a ton of repetition work. He'll just have to do enough to show that he understands the concept being taught. So it won't take as much work to get him to the level he needs to be at.

We're still dealing with other issues. But at least school is no longer the biggest issue.

That's great news Monica.

That reminds me of a funny story when my Mom was an elementary school teacher. She taught at a school with a very large economic range. There was this little boy that always came to school in tattered, dirty clothes that did not fit. All of the teachers got their own kids clothes that would fit him and very discreetly gave them to the Mother. She very graciuosly took the clothes and said Thank you. He kept wearing the same clothes. Turns out he was the grandson on the founder of ARCO oil company. His Grandfather was in the top 5 richest men in the country at that time.:rotfl2: We laugh about that story 30 years later.
Edited to add: The Gransdon's family had a ton of money- they just did not care about material possessions. In High School this same guy was wearing the same tattered, dirty clothes that did not fit. The funny thing was I saw him at our 10 year reunion and was kicking myself as he certainly turned out quite handsome (and was finally wearing clothes that fit).

Ours gets adult clothing in waves and even then not very much. Luckily the big plush display under the movie screen is always full.

Monica, I am so happy to hear that. I think having your child "happy" in their school environment really helps in everything else. It is just like an adult being miserable in their job.:goodvibes

Yes, well, we're still working on the adult job aspect.....:rolleyes1
