Hi Everyone!

Nice to "see" you all here!

I would think that even if they have to limit the length of threads, that they would lock the long thread so it could still be read, but not posted to. If the do that, then we'll just continue here! Would our thread post count then be the SUM of the two threads?

We are still waiting to hear from CNN on when exactly DH's clip will be run. They told him yesterday that they were planning to finish production around lunch time (yesterday) and it could start running Friday. Of course, the show "Your $$$$$" doesn't seem to run on Friday so we have NO idea when it will be on!

Pamela (pdarrah)

I'm glad people have found this haven of tranquility or insanity, never sure which :)

Pamela, if CNN post the show or parts of it online, could you post the link? I'm fast becoming a Kiva addict, I'm helping my Mum sign up today.

So here is my $.02…

I would also think that whoever makes these decisions would realize that some of these groups who have been posting together for years in some cases, could take their posts somewhere else.

What was done with our AUG07 cruise thread is that the DIS thread was for trip information. A moderator access YAHOO thread was set up for folks who wanted to chat and get to know each other. Thus, keeping all the fluff off the DISBOARDS. Also, then the DIS thread wasn't intimidating to newbies and people got the info they were looking for.

I absolutely love GS Thin Mints (with milk:goodvibes ), but getting them is hard -- there truly aren't that many girl scouts in Manhattan. Once I was in New Jersey for the day and found some girls selling them, and I bought 10 boxes and froze them!

I do the same thing every year. I take 2 boxes of Thin Mints, Do-si-Dos (oatmeal peanut butter sandwiches) and Samoas and put them in the freezer. The next year between the time we have placed our order and they come in, I break out the boxes. I am always surprised the taste seems perfect.
This is a dangerous time of year. :sad2:

OK, I was just kidding on Andrew's suggestion of dividing the thread by deck. I would miss too many people but I do like my deck 2 "peeps". <- What the heck does "peeps" mean anyway?:confused3 I am reinforcing my nerd status. :lmao:

Edited to add- Please, oh please do not let it be a bad word.

EEEEEEEEEEEE!

I'm telling!!!

Coral said "Peeps!"

It's not a bad word, it means people. :rotfl:

I guess we have done that somewhat in reverse, by putting all of the trip information on the pirate zone and making this a more social place. As long as we have a clear link to that other information here, it seems as though it could work either way . . .

Crash you are not the only innocent one who posts images (me) :rolleyes1 & I'm sure there are other factors at work here, i.e. "fluff" ;) & please don't feel persecuted, because as others have attested, your posts are sometimes amusing & sometimes poignant, but always welcome! :goodvibes
:yay:

I had to look up poignant... I'm in an odd state today. I have my feverish little one defiantly insistant on cuddling IN my lap (no exceptions) and I'm wondering if I'm coming down with her fever. I've not had any fever yet - just coughing from the flu - and I seemed to have resisted my older daughters' flu. And, oh yeah, my spouse DOES have a fever from somewhere. So, being in a suspected pre-fever condition (aches, sinus pressure, and an odd mental state) I had vague suspicions as to the meaning of poignant... here's what I found in the dictionary because googling images left me a bit uncertain as to the meaning:

Dictionary.com Unabridged (v 1.1) - Cite This Source - Share This
poign·ant /ˈpɔɪnyənt, ˈpɔɪnənt/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[poin-yuhnt, poi-nuhnt] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–adjective 1. keenly distressing to the feelings: poignant regret.
2. keen or strong in mental appeal: a subject of poignant interest.
3. affecting or moving the emotions: a poignant scene.
4. pungent to the smell: poignant cooking odors.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

[Origin: 1350–1400; ME poynaunt < MF poignant, prp. of poindre < L pungere to prick, pierce. See pungent, -ant]

—Related forms
poign·ant·ly, adverb

—Synonyms 1. intense, sincere, heartfelt. 4. piquant, sharp.

So... I gues my images have been one or more of 1) smelly, 2) emotional, 3) thought provoking, or 4) distressing <yuk>

Well... in the past month it looks as if everyone in my family - except the dog - has come down with an illness if some sort. However, it does NOT look as if anyone got anyone else sick with THIER particular illness. as everyone seems to have a different set of symptomns - and or timing for being sick.

And while I'm here sipping my Glace Vitamin drink - let me change gears and share a shopping/bargin tip good for SoCal neighbors who like to snow ski:

Dynamic+Parallel.gif

If you live in SoCAL and ski - and if you can go skiing midweek (monday to friday) then going to Ralph's supermarket - if you buy 10 bottles of Glace Vitamin Drink (several decent flavors) for $1 a bottle ... spend $10 ... get 10 bottles ... then you will also get a free midweek lift ticket good at Snow Summit worth $42. Kids under age 6 naturally ski for free too! So... a parent and child can ski all day for $10 + the expense of renting skiis... which can be had for as little as $14 if rented locally in Big Bear. Also, sport ski sets are $18... and super premium ski sets are available for $28. We're going skiing Friday the 15th as the local schools are closed and Alicia already left that day unscheduled. Shes' quite the skiier as she was on her high school ski team in Pennysylvania competing in Giant Salom. I on the other hand can't parallel worth a darn!

At any rate, this is a good deal that will END in FOUR days - however the tickets you get (printed on your receipt with your Ralph's club number punched in - and blacked out on holidays) are good until April 30th or until the snow is all gone. You can't beat this deal for midweek skiing ... TEN bucks for a $42 ticket and you get 10 bottles of Glace worth $16. Fifty eight bucks of stuff fer ten... that's near 83% in savings!

I hope all of you get completely well soon, Crash -- just think, you are getting all your illnesses out of the way now so that none of you will get sick on the cruise!:thumbsup2

Coral you are the Deck 2 captain and M, Crash and I are your Peeps. I know there are more deck 2ers.

HEADS UP for people possibly arriving at the Port late on August 17th.

My TA just informed me. Home Land Security just issued new rules. All passengers for cruises must be checked in and cleared 90 minutes prior to the ship sailing.

Are we having pirate: s on the 100s today? That would give Cheryl a chance at one. :lovestruc

I just got back from shopping!!!:thumbsup2 John still has some money left for the cruise.:yay:

Coral, I'm pretty sure she is still on this cruise...

and yes she r-u-n-n o-f-t'd some time ago (before you came around)

We don't speak of that time because some things happened around board/thread etc... that many didn't like..

We're better now :lovestruc Let's keep it that way :rolleyes1

Amen!!!:grouphug: :grouphug:

I often use multi-quotes to S-P-R-E-A-D the thread less ... however on the other hand I am guilty of originating a number of image postings... as well as serving as the catalyst for others doing the same.

Are you referring about me Crash!!!:lmao: :lmao:

:thumbsup2 :

I totally agree with you. The DISers on our last cruise made the trip fantastic!

I agree....Disboards just enhances pur whole cruise!!:woohoo:

So here is my $.02…

IF the long threads are found to be the culprit of the DIS slowdown…and IF the powers that be decide to cap threads at 10,000 or some other arbitrary number…I would think that they wouldn’t try to stop the participants in the 9,999 post thread from starting another thread (Part 2, 3, 4, etc.), perhaps with the capability of linking the threads together somewhere on the page.

I would also think that whoever makes these decisions would realize that some of these groups who have been posting together for years in some cases, could take their posts somewhere else. There are lots of options on the internet. That is by no means a threat or a call for revolution. I LIKE the Dis, I want to STAY on the Dis. But for the reasons I just mentioned, I sincerely doubt the webmasters are going to simply delete long threads without allowing people to continue the friendships they started here. It’s not just us either; there are some really long threads on the CB.

Oh, and I think I get Coral’s point. Whenever the post count list comes up, I am always fascinated by the people who have been gone for ½ of the time the thread was in existence who are still in the top 20. Last time I looked, it wasn’t just Lisa. I don’t think it was meant as a criticism or a complaint – just an interesting observation.

I have been here from February so I claim Innocence!!!!

Hey if we posted by deck I would turn out pretty good as deck 2 is rich with talent and personality. :cool1:

Coral

I think deck 7 is good too!!! We have the secret veranda!!!:rotfl2:
I bekieve our CJS is also on deck 7 with me.:cheer2: :cheer2:

Julie, I wish I had known about your GS cookie obsession. My niece is a GS. She just turned her cookie order in Saturday.

Evening

I've been gone for less than 24 hours and the thread has "dis"sected in two - sorry for the pun!!:lmao:

David

It's all your fault. You left us and now we don't know how to handle it.

Seriously. It's sad to see you go, but I admire the offer you made to the parents.

That's very good information, Wendy -- we should get that put somewhere on the website. Most probably will already be in California but I personally know one person (Jo -- ga9497) who is flying in that morning and there must be others.
