Good morning everyone
I have arrived. Checked into Surfside a little while ago. They surprised me with an upgrade to a suite. The room is really cute and is my favorite color.
That was so nice that you got an upgrade.
This day just keeps getting better. I went to Starbucks for a drink and the cashier gave me a free cake pop.
What a nice gesture by the barista.
I survived a few hours at UO today. It is just too hot and humid for my comfort. I did a few rides and saw some shows. Everything was walk on. I also stopped by to see the Scooby Gang. Lunch was a disappointment. I got a smoked brisket crepe and discovered that they had changed the recipe since I last had one. It's not as good as it was, and they've added corn
Welcome to Florida in September. It is usually hot and humid and it is the rainy season here.
There is some nice morning starts to the day though.
walked all the way back to Thunder Falls Terrace only to discover that they had stopped serving for the day. I decided to try Confisco Grill instead. This meal more than made up for the disappointing lunch. While at dinner I got a text alert from my bank asking if I had made a purchase with my debit card. My debit card is at home, so I answered no. Now the card is on hold until they issue a replacement. It was a small purchase, under $12, made at a Japanese company. I have no idea how the card was compromised. i rarely ever use it.
The rain had almost stopped when I left the park. It's difficult to see with the sunset, but there was a rainbow.
Glad to hear you had a nice meal at Confisco. I have good meals there last few times I have been.
That situation with debit card is scary. I wonder how people get their hands on the numbers to use them.
Checking in from
Epic. Currently waiting to see The Untrainable Dragon.
I was able to get my flight changed to a later time tomorrow. I now get picked up at 1:15 instead of 7:15.
Did you get to see the Untrainable Dragon Show and what did you think about it. I liked it. The only issue with the show when I saw it is that they did not do the fly over with Toothless and Hiccup.
Charade have a safe flight home.
Janet hope all goes well with you choice of flight options on the way down.
Lynne hope your transition to HR goes smoothly today.
Well Saturday was a bit scary in the afternoon. There was a chemical fire in the outskirts of the town I live in. Not sure what this business makes to warrant them having such toxic chemicals, but son called us about 4 pm to let us know he had seen the information on his phone then not long after our cell phone emergency information was blaring,
Then we received warnings to turn off our central air and shelter in place until further noticed.
Then got the information that Hazmat response teams from multiple fire departments were on the scene trying to put the fire out.
Thankfully the wind was not blowing in our direction, but was blowing from the north in the direction of the towns across the river from us in Kentucky (sadly not good for them). They also got the shelter in place warning.
I kept updated on information.
Our daughter from Kentucky called us and told us she had heard about the fire.
Was not sure how things were gong to play out.
The shelter in place order lifted after midnight.
I was up by 3 am yesterday. I had put somethings in my suitcase late Saturday night and decided I would finish packing. I had already checked myself and my sister in for our flight Saturday morning. We had
trip insurance so if we needed to cancel last minute I knew we could without issue.
I went out about 5:30 am and it was 58 degrees and a cool crisp clear morning. There was no smell outside…..good sign…..
I put some fresh water in the bird bath and fresh water for the deer. I filled the bird feeder and put some corn out for the deer.
I had all my sweet hubby’s meals prepped and the house was all nice and clean. Not that it gets very messy its just the to of us.
My sister and brother in law were coming to pick me up at 8 am for the trip to the airport.
We got to the airport and checked in.
It is less the a two hour flight to Sanford on Allegiant. We had the nicest lady who sat next to us on the plane and like me she is a Retired RN too. So the three of us Nurses (My sister K who is with me on this trip is still working as a RN) had a nice chat on the way to Sanford.
I think by the time we got to the rental car center it was a little after 2 pm.
We got our SUV and I went out and took photos of the inside and outside of vehicles. Then I noticed after we were on our way that the warning light that the cars front camera distance warning system was not working and I needed the car manual to reset it………really………I’am pretty good with figuring out he information systems on the cars, but I was not able to reset it.
I drove back to the rental car company and one of the guys came out and reset the system and it went off for a few minutes and then was back on again. My concern was that I did not want them thinking I had disabled the front crash warning system.
The rental guy came out again and said they run the cars through the car wash and it gets the electronic sensors wet and once it dried all would be well. I told him that was fine and I would document that.
The SUV was running fine other than that warning light about the crash system on the dash.
I also showed him that there was a stain on the back seat. It is not unusual to see a stain here and there on the seats, but Interestingly I guess the folks that clean the car had left the cup holder down to conveniently cover the stain I’am assuming. It would have easily cleaned up with a swipe of a hand held cleaner. Everything else inside was pretty pristine looking.
This is the second time I have rented from Hertz/dollar and there has been an issue they just don’t look their vehicles over well.
I should have just demanded another SUV, but the vehicle was already loaded with our luggage and I was exhausted. If the warning light was going to go off fine.
I will ask to be compensated for my inconvenience when the vehicle is returned. I would not normally bother, but this was a bit over the top.
After the car fiasco we got on the 417. I was just ready to get this vacation started after some mild verbal ranting I was over it.
We made it to Portofino and as soon as I walked through the doors and smelled the awesome fragrance that is Portofino…….it was so nice.
I had a nice welcome form the lovely lady from VIP. She was so sweet and just a very happy person. They do have the nicest people working here.
We got our room cards and headed the Club lounge for dinner. They had a nice fresh pasta bar for dinner and it was delicious.
We got our room ready notice while we were eating dinner and got up to the room and settled in.
Our room over looks the bay and is in very quiet location. Just what was needed.
I had debated going to
HHN for a couple of hours, but my sister talked me out of it. Good thing as i think I world not been able to enjoy it, I was physically and mentally exhausted or as Carole would say I was “shattered” I think that says it all.
I went to bed at 9 pm and now I’am up with the chickens so to speak.
So now you have heard the Perils of Penelope.
I’am ready to get this vacation started.
Not sure what we will do today will see how the day unfolds.
Might try to get some more sleep this morning.
Have a wonderful Monday everyone doing what ever makes you happy.
A little aside note here. I checked on Facebook for our local Fire Dept information whats going on with the clean up this morning.
Then I saw this on a local FB page a pop up from a lady whose boyfriend worked for the company who had the chemical fire Saturday. She said he had complained to management of hazardous issues that were going on there and had been written up for it by the boss……..I hope the EPA see’s this. She had her full name and his on the post. I have a feeling he will be getting call and this owner of the business will be seeing some fines coming his way.
So sad that the owner of that business could be so flippant about our communities safety.
