How are you doing, Monica? And is Trevoy home yet?:grouphug:

I'm pretty much recovered from my surgery. Got the all clear to return to work on Monday. (not sure I'm too happy about that LOL).

We have a family meeting at 4pm today. Depending on the outcome of that, he may come home with us then, or spend one more night at the group home to adjust to the idea of coming home.

So here is my $.02…

IF the long threads are found to be the culprit of the DIS slowdown…and IF the powers that be decide to cap threads at 10,000 or some other arbitrary number…I would think that they wouldn’t try to stop the participants in the 9,999 post thread from starting another thread (Part 2, 3, 4, etc.), perhaps with the capability of linking the threads together somewhere on the page.

I would also think that whoever makes these decisions would realize that some of these groups who have been posting together for years in some cases, could take their posts somewhere else. There are lots of options on the internet. That is by no means a threat or a call for revolution. I LIKE the Dis, I want to STAY on the Dis. But for the reasons I just mentioned, I sincerely doubt the webmasters are going to simply delete long threads without allowing people to continue the friendships they started here. It’s not just us either; there are some really long threads on the CB.

Oh, and I think I get Coral’s point. Whenever the post count list comes up, I am always fascinated by the people who have been gone for ½ of the time the thread was in existence who are still in the top 20. Last time I looked, it wasn’t just Lisa. I don’t think it was meant as a criticism or a complaint – just an interesting observation.

Roger, did you survive the full moon?

DW said it was pretty bad at the hospital too.

I will be in chat somewhere but I am going to a DCL house party tonight. I will look for everyone at either site. I will let you know how fun it was!!!:dance3:

Have a great time. Sounds like fun!

I spent my time booking a WDW trip.
Me, DH and both girls are going from June 21st thru the 26th. A short trip so I do not mess w/ MiL's plans for Megan :sad2: . I booked airfare and the Wilderness Lodge. We love that place. Since we are paying rack rate (I have never paid rack before) if we have more money than we think than we might upgrade to the Poly to be on the monorial.
Happy Friday everyone!!

I'm glad you were able to get a vacation booked. Have a great trip!

Now I can't imagine what this upcoming cruise would have been like had I not gotten to know so many people ahead of time. I know that the friendships I made on the meet thread for the July 28 Med cruise last summer made the trip that much better.

Well said Julie. While I'm sure I would have had a great trip anyway, I'm so glad that I joined in on the conversations here on the thread. Now I can't wait to meet everybody in July. (And if I could have swung it, I would have gone to one of the other pre-cruise mini-meets too!) It's going to make the cruise that much better!:grouphug:

I'm INNOCENT!

If there was ever any doubt whether or not this is the right thread, this post has just put that doubt to rest!

Sounds promising. Best wishes to you both.

You are 100% correct- Thank you!

I forget exactly when I became a Dis sponsor, but I was having so much fun getting to know everyone here and became way more active than I was in 05 when I joined that it made me feel good. Now I am not saying that it is something everyone needs to do, but it was important to me.:)

Hope everyone is having a great day:)

Me too...I felt that it was important to me to "help" as much as I could. These Boards are so much a part of my life, and I wanted to do what I could to make sure that we could keep them.

Well...

... I was feeling a bit persecuted for a bit. I've posted a lot ... and a lot of my postings have images. But the vast majority are really small files. Some are even entertaining while others simply are insane and barely applicable (depending on ones' POV). At any rate, if LENGTH of thread and processing method are at issue ... especially since they've allowed siggys to have no FILE size limits - just DIMENSIONAL limits... it would seem the images/animations and file sizes are NOT a concern of the technical managers here.... since I checked with a moderator some time ago when the new rules for siggys (and their automatic editing) went through ...

.... Then it seems it would be safe fer me to again offer a sheepish claim to being....
INNOCENT.

Kangaroo%20Court

I left my animated ship docking in my siggy specificly because I got an answer that the file sizes were not an issue in the siggy... WITH the reservation that AT THIS TIME the siggy file sizes were not a concern for the moderators.

I'm glad you are recovered -- even if that does mean going back to work!:lmao: Good luck with the family meeting and keep me posted. This has been, and will be, a long road for you and for Trevoy but it's the eventual destination that matters.

Interesting...
... maybe we could have threads broken out by cabin catagory or alphabet to maintain smaller threads.
Oh well... I imagine this is not the entire issue - as I suspect it involves many factors as opposed to any one or two considerations.
I agree Bet it is many factors, one is these boards are very popular.

Monica, I sure hope your meeting goes well and that Trevoy is ready to come home.

Your posts brighten my day every day you post them. I find them so clever.
I am by no means a pc person (I am a mainframe person) but I believe there are a lot of factors. If you did not post anotherr image the boards would be the same. I have been here 7 years- lots of ups and downs.

I'm not understanding how images would slow down the DIS when we are not using the DIS to host the images. Guess that may be my non computer tech savy brain thinking. :confused3 I for one, enjoy posting images, especially yummy pirates. And also enjoy the humor and wit of our pirates. And LOVE the family pics that get posted. I'd hate to see a limit on those.

I also don't understand how locking the threads would help, if the long thread were allowed to reamain here. They'd be blocked from future postings, but they would still be there for viewing. How does that help?

I'm not going to dwell on it. The webmasters have stated that this is only temporary and NO decisions have been made yet. Today is just a test to see if the speed was improved. Once they make a decsion, we will all have plenty of time to adjust to it.

Hey if we posted by deck I would turn out pretty good as deck 2 is rich with talent and personality. :cool1:

Monica...

... I think you already know how I feel about your challenges and turbulent times... but I wanted to briefly say we're gonna be invisibly at your side standing in support of the best possible outcome imaginable. I am for ever the eternal optimist - and believe you and your entire family will emerge from these days successfuly. The human spirit has a tremendous capacity for healing and growth... we sometimes need to give it a chance - maybe some time too.

At any rate, wishing you the best. Be patient just a little more if its' called for. :duck: Whew... that one almost got me!

Hey don't forget about the GTY's:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

You are correct the pictures are not posted on DIS but on other boards like Snapfish, photobucket etc etc... Because of this everytime you call up a thread the DIS server must go out over the internet and find these pictures and retrieve them and then bring them back to the DIS server to display them for you. though it appears instentaneous to us it does take time for the server to call the other server and then bring back the picture.
