Yeah, I heard all the smart arses moved over to the restaurant board :lmao:

Tell Devon, if it's any consolation, Taylor isn't going just because it's a school night, period. She didn't even really push the issue, because she knew what my response would be. She just said that a bunch of friends were going to the midnight show & skipping school Friday since it was National Skip School Day anway. I just said, "That's nice, you're not." She's seeing it tomorrow night at 7:00 with a couple of friends.

OK, I'll share my Twilight story....

Gave DD permission to go to the show on Friday with her friend, Izzy (first time to the movies unsupervised).

Well, Izzy's Mom says she can't go W/O an adult so she's gonna go. So, I politely offer to DD, well, I'll go and keep Izzy's Mom company even though I've never met the woman. I was told, NO!!, Izzy's Mom is cool and you're not :sad1: .

two minutes later.....

MOMMMMMM - Izzy's mom doesn't have a babysitter (for little sister) so she can't go, and Izzy can't go without an adult so can you go to the movie, but you have to sit in the back away from us :headache:

Long story short, guess where this big loser head is going to be tomorrow night at 7pm sitting in the back, by my lonesome with my own bag of popcorn becuase I am not cool popcorn::

I AM TOO COOL :cool1:

Shoot I wish we lived a bit closer & I would've gone with you! I think you're way too cool too! :cool1:

OK, so Diane PM'd me and Esteri called, so I figured I should pop in to let you all know that I'm still alive!

Things are going well here - crazy busy though. I love my new job, but seriously working 11-12 hour days. Plus hockey, plus Cub Scouts, plus karate, plus assorted house guests...and then a few of my bff's sucked me into Facebook. Oy!

Anyway, I miss all of you guys!

WOW! Monica got a job in a DIAMOND MINE!!!

Congrats!

Nice to see you posting, M. I miss your posts. They always make me giggle.

I was wondering if I'd stump anyone with my cryptic post.

I haven't shared much about this job because I didn't want to jinx anything. A staffing recruiter found my resume on Monster because of my telecom experience. I had a phone interview a few weeks ago and was supposed to have an onsite interview last week but it got postponed. I interviewed on Tuesday and felt that it went well. Got a call from the recruiter today with the offer. It will be a 3 month contract to hire. I plan on making myself so valuable that they will hire me on permanent.

It's a catch all administrative assistant type job in the telecom department of an HMO. I'll be assisting with ordering, contract maintenance, and procedure documentation. Initially a 20% paycut, but once I'm permanent it will only be about a 5% paycut. Full benefits after 30 days, even on contract. Don't know about vacation time yet, probably won't know until the perm. position is negotiated.

Today is 7 months to the day that I was notified about my lay off, 5 months since I've been off payroll.

Sounds really good, Monica:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

You're not a loser . . . you're just a woman who will get some down time to see a romantic movie and popcorn without anyone bothering her, or wanting any popcorn, or being embarrassed if you cry at an emotional part! You'll have a great time:goodvibes

Was wondering where you were. And you are hugely popular on facebook, 38,283,401 friends....

You must have me confused with another Alaskan hockey mom.

On the bright side, there aren't 400 "My dog is smarter than sk8ingmom" groups on Facebook.

Well now Julie, when you put it that way.......

I have no idea about the story, I just know that DD read all the books on our EBPC Repo. She picked up one before the cruise for the plane ride and next thing I know I was at the Target in CA picking up the rest of them. Hey, if they can get my ST to read, can't be all that bad, right?

That is fantastic Monica! Keeping good thoughts and continuing prayers for the permanent offer in 3 months!

I have read them, since my older two daughters were . . . I think they are a lot of fun . . . so have a good time!:thumbsup2

I'm terrified right now and reaching out to anyone and everyone.

There was just a home invasion 2 doors down from me this morning. I heard someone yelling for help, looked out and saw a woman running down the street. I had her come in my house and we called 911. Apparently she was getting ready ot leave for work and went back in the house for something. The guy followed her, brandished a gun and started beating her up. Not sure if he was there to attack her or to rob her. I did see the guy running down the street but didn't see the gun. He roughed her up a bit but she got away but she made sure to wipe her blood on his clothes. Who thinks of that when fighting for their life?

Even more horrible, my DS was right there with me the whole time. We were waiting for his school bus which is why I had the front door open, the screen/security door was still closed though. His bus came before I had a chance to reassure him that it will be okay.

It happened at the same time in the morning that I'll be leaving for work. And this is when my DS's bus comes too. We've had breakins before in the area but usualy when no one is home. My house was broken into once and attempted another (found a busted window). But this is the first I'm hearing of anything this frigtening. And now I'm connected. I hope there won't be any backlash to me. The guy did see what house she ran in to.

:grouphug: :grouphug: Hang in there Monica. She's probably lucky you were home. Up here we have a service run by the Police called Victim Services - they provide support with issues like this. Do you have something similar?

We sailed in Pirate waters

So what are you trying to do? Scare us after the fact! :rotfl2: With this group we could of held our ground er ship! :)

WOW is your neighbor ok?

The world is getting scarier as people get more desperate... (and less help is out there)

The girls at my P/t job warned me about the glue-sniffer guy that comes in to make purchases...

Finally saw him the other night at work. He is big time creepy and was like "when did you start here..?" (my initial thought was to tell him i was quitting now that i saw him.)

Luckily we all leave as a group to our cars at night.

Congrats Monica! Hope the job goes well. Sorry to hear about the break-in. Does your neighborhood have a Neighborhood Watch program? Maybe that would help.

Mary Ann you are very cool!:cool2: Also you are much kinder than I would of been. If my dd said that to me and than came back I would of said no.

K hang in there. Tell Andy not to be a twinkie with Devon. Tough love!

I'm sure it was so quick, T she didn't know what to do.... But i'm sure her ds might have a baseball bat.

Swing away monica. Swing away.. (ok that was a bad joke but i remember my mom keeping a bat by the front door when we were little after we had a problem with one neighbor.)

My neighbors have seen my big dog and stay away.. (they don't know she's harmless)

G 2 T see my PM..

Monica what an awful way to start off a morning! I'm so sorry this happened, but I'm glad you were there to help your neighbor. If you can, talk to your neighbors & alert them to what happened & have everyone keep an extra eye out. I hope Trevoy wasn't too freaked out by the whole incident.

K keep away from the glue sniffer! :scared:

I suggest calling the PD, not the 9-1-1 line, but a "7 digit" number and tell them you are concerned and scared. Ask if they could request their patrols to give "passing attention" to the neighborhood at that time of the morning.

When leaving in the morning, I would suggest looking out the window and if anyone looks suspicious, call the PD and ask them to respond. If you have to leave call a neighbor and ask them to watch in case there is trouble.

That's kind of what Linda did. She picked up the first 2 to read on the cruise. She bought books 3 & 4 in the airport during our layover on the way to CA!

Tom's advice is very good. And I'm proud of you for helping your neighbor, when so many others would have ignored her calls for help. Although now that I know you, I'm not surprised.
