What a wonderful trip, for my first cruise it was a blast... going again with my kids in July and two more cruises booked while on the ship... Everyone was so great..missing everyone.

Survived the first two days of school - my students have been in school since last week. My 58 fourth graders were excited to finally have their teacher back home. I have had several siblings of the students. I share the 58 students with my best friend and teaching partner so they know me already. Lots of questions about my trip....

On a sad note my own kids had to break the news to me that while I was gone my "Disney" a six year old cocker stopped eating and that she has cancer and will not survive the disease... They had gotten together while I was gone to discuss what to do and how to tell me....After having the TOAL - I am so very sad... to lose such a great dog...My kids purchased 7 or 8 different dog foods and have tried everything to get her to eat...she is on medicine to increase her desire to eat...we (my mom and I) have discovered that she loves puppy dog biscuits... So while I am teaching my mom (82 years young) is a doggy nurse...

Can't wait to hear for everyone and view pictures...Keeping the 5 day cruisers in my prayers...

AGAIN - thanks everyone.

My stinky teen just turned 13 right before we got on the ship. He was really excited about not having to go to the stack but that he could hang out with the "younger" preteens. But the times he went to the club he just wasn't impressed. It wasn't for lack of not being there becasue he went a lot the first few days but just didn't like it. He really wanted to play Guitar Hero in the tournaments but said ther was always some kid hoggin the game LOL.

DD is 9 and she was enjoying the club and was all set to spend the night the night of the character camp out but that was the night she started feeling bad. She did not eat dinner but seemd fine, we packed her up checked her into the club and went to the show. We got a page about 45 minutes later that Ashton had a "protein spill" and I would need to come up and get her. It took me a few moments to know what a "protein spill" was but I finally figured it out LOL. I think after that night she never went back to the club, she never wanted to. She said it stayed really hot & stuffy in there all the time and she didn't like the "smell".

My kids had more fun hanging with us and tormenting each other for kicks!
Personally- I think a lot of the "older" teens in the OQ didn't really enjoy it- probably why a lot of them were roaming the ship all the time! And the few times I did see it when Robert was in there- it was either younger kids like Robert enjoying themselves or just way too crowded. I posted on another thread that I really think they need to go back to 8-9 age group and 10-12 age group -and maybe the 13/14yr olds in the OQ- not so crowded and that way 14yr olds don't have to hang with such older teens! Or something like that.

I totally agree with your daughter. Everytime we went to take or get our kids in the club or lab (which was often because they didn't want to stay there very long each time) it was hot and stuffy and not smelling so great to me either! (smelled like sweat- which everyone was probably sweating because it was so hot and stuffy!) They said it was because all the "bodies" but A) I don't remember it being like that on the first cruise in the club and lab and B) even on days where we went back and forth and never saw many kids at all like in the club- it was still HOT in there. Like I'd start sweating profusely just the few minutes I had to stand there to get let in to get my child or standing there in short lines to check my child out! I totally did not like being there for the short time to pick up my kids- I can imagine the kids weren't enjoying it much either! :(
(I secretly wonder if they had a/c problems and just didn't want to say it? I noticed some other areas were quite stuffy and sometimes downright HOT during the cruise- like a few times we got in lifts that felt like they literally had the heat on high- felt like a sauna once we walked in the lift! Certain areas of the ship we'd walk thru and go whoa- it's warm here. Yanno?)

My son said the same thing about guitar hero. He'd never played it before the cruise and was upset he couldn't ever get more than ONE turn the entire time. LOL

Oh no.. poor Disney.
:( :( :(
I don't know what I'd have done if I'd returned to hear bad news about our "Tramp". I'm so sorry. :(

:wave2: Guys! Live post from the Magic.

We had our itinerary changed again - we hit Nassau and boy has it changed since '99. We hit the Casino and Steve won a bit and I even hit on the Wheel of Fortune a small bit and on a nickel slot. So I consider myself lucky.

Anyway, just a quick post the sea is a bit rough tonight - nothing major but definitely enough to make Steve go to bed - he's sawing away at some logs right now. Better for him as he did get a bit sick. I haven't been upstairs and hopefully when I do for the pirate night - it won't be too bad.

I updated my blog up to 6 pm tonight so if anyone wants to hear - go at it.

General talk on the board is that we may miss the 2nd Castaway Cay day. Nassau all aboard time was changed to 4 pm instead of 7 in order to outrun Hannah who isn't cooperating much. We got some rain about 3:30 which ended my shopping but I got some great last minute deals on some Kate Spade bags and Louis Vitton one - Cheryl - got the one for my DD and then some. Now to get them back. :scratchin oh well, where there's a will there's a way.

Kristina - call Cheryl - - she has a message for you.

Talk to you all later guys - off to snag me a spot for the pirate party and see if I can hang.

Keep your prayers out that we don't hit too much rough waters. So far - so good

OH YEAH! I AM NOW OFFICIALLY ON THE DUMMY CRUISE! ADD ME TO THE LIST!

Keep you all posted.

BTW - CruzinMike - got a WONDERFUL COLORFUL picture of you and Linda -

LINDA - YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL - I WILL HAVE TO POST A PICTURE WHEN I CAN.

Still having trouble posting but will post one ASAP - probably on Saturday. I wish you all could have seen them - they are happy and gorgeous.

Lots of color and you both did not look like you were seating buckets.

Take care y'all.

Gotta fly!

After P. Vallarta is when our whole scenario started too................we were on the pirate boat sail and snorkel that day. They fed us lunch on that excursion and we weren't too sure if we should eat it. Basically about a day later is when it started. The doctor on the ship classified my daughter as norovirus with a question mark after it. He said that I probably didn't get it as bad since I had a flu shot. I didn't realize that you would have that high of a fever with the norovirus either....there is no way to know if that is what it was but either way Disney was great about it. At any rate, we will file for some type of $$ on our trip insurance but not sure what yet.

After the IV and the medicines they had to give my daughter I figured we would have to pay about $400 in expenses but Disney covered the expense since they were confining us to out cabin so that was a relief at least. I felt they handled it well - as well as they could so I am not complaining.

I have to say though, I have NEVER seen one of my kids THAT sick. DD could not even hold down a sip of gatorade or water. She would heave it right back up and then have dry heaves for a couple more minutes. I really felt bad for her. I was really scared for her too, she was getting dehydrated fast. After the IV though, no more throwing up which was good, she still did not eat for another 24 hours after that!

My grandkids were that sick once. And they shared it with me as well. The washing machine never stopped. It was awful. The worst part was DD got sick at work and she couldn't get the strength to get up and drive home til her overnight shift was over. we were all so sick. And yes the little one had to get an IV. He looked so scary.

We caught the cold in PV as well getting wet and all.

I miss everybody!!! :sad1:

DS woke up & he felt cool to the touch & said he felt better & did NOT want to miss his first day at middle school so I let him go with the condition that he went to the nurse if he started to feel miserable. Well as soon as he got off the bus I could see his fever was back & he was having a coughing fit so I immediatly got on the phone to the doctor & they said to bring him in & ended up being pneumonia! :guilty: Mike thinks it's from snorkeling in Aruba since it was DS's first time & he did swallow a lot of water. I don't know, but he seems to be prone to lung infections. As a baby he got the croup constantly & he's had bronchitis 3 times this spring & now this.

:scared1: Just saw that someone uploaded the speedo parade...My apologies to those blinded by me :flower3:

Thanks to those who returned entries for the FE Pirate "Poker" Run. We had around 45 entries returned. I posted the results on our door, but since it was the end of the cruise, thought most wouldn't have seen, so I'll list them here. We actually had a "Five of a Kind" submitted by our wonderful tablemates Deanna (buckifan) and Rob. We made them "Honorary" Pirate Kings as they weren't really FE participants, but we wanted to share with them some of the fun. We awarded them a nice DCL Pirate Photo Frame. Of the FE participants, the awards were:

PIRATE KING: Tiger24 with a Full House (3 Queens, 2 Kings). Awarded: An antique deck of Souvenir Panama Canal Playing Cards. Printed in 1926, these were very nice. They had images of the construction of the canal and images of early transits. The suit of Spades featured early 1920's images of U.S. battleships transitting the canal. You could tell the story of Pearl Harbor with these cards, as the Arizona, Maryland, West Virginia, Tennessee and others all passed through the Canal and were imaged in this set. I showed these to Captain Puckett (apologies if I have his name wrong) who was doing the Canal presentations all week. He had seen many of the images through the national archives, but wasn't aware that they were at one time printed on souvenir playing cards. So he mentioned he'd be checking out e-bay when he got home.:) He was a super interesting guy. I saw him up on top deck after the mexican deck party as my DD9 and Rob's DD8 wanted to stay for the Cheetah Girl premiere. I asked him if he was from Ohio because he really seemed to talk up Ohio's part in constructing the canal. He seemed surprised, but said "Yes, I'm from east of Columbus." He sat down and chatted for the next 1-1/2 hours while we waited out the Cheetah girl movie.

COMMODORE: Fincantieri with a Flush. Awarded a deck of cards with the group's "DIS & Captain Jack Arrrr Back" logo on the back of the cards.

CAPTAIN: 4FosterKids with a Straight. Also received a deck of cards with the group's logo.

CHARTMAN: Tina (I believe ID is CastawayTina?). She submitted the worst hand with a Jack being the high card. We awarded her a Captain Jack Sparrow Pirate Flag.

Thanks again to all who played along. We had a fun time planning it and it sounded like many of you enjoyed it.

That was a great idea Joel! :thumbsup2

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Roger......that was so fun seeing you guys as we left the terminal. Our kids LOVED your girls! They have been telling their friends at home all about the new friends they met on the cruise.

Here are a few photos of our kids together.

What a bunch of cuties!!! :goodvibes

Many hugs to my friends who came home to departed pets...

Mine were alive but i don't think kept as well as I would have liked...

Abby hit shedding season so we pretty much had to part the dog hair to even get in the house. Her ears were pretty matted too.

Wonder what the dogs did the whole time?

Some better news on the job front. (not great but something)

I'm going for an interview for a temporary assignment at the local community college. It's only two weeks but at least a foot in the door.

Our dog Rosie came back from our neighbors spoiled rotten as usual. She barely ate any of the food we left for her because all they do is feed her scraps. I even gave them two packages of dog treats & they used both packs! :sad2:

Good luck with the interview K! :wizard:

Hi everybody, we have survived the first two days of school and now I can unpack and start on the laundry!

We had a very unusual cruise, nothing went according to our "plan". I had a stomach virus that just made me feel blah for a couple of days. DD then got super sick, throwing up EVERYTHING even the advil I was trying to give her for a fever of 103.8. On Panama Canal day we ended up taking her to the medical center because she had not gotten any better, for 36 hours the child could not keep anything in her.

Doctor gave her IV fluids, a shot of something to make her stop throwing up and a suppository to help with the nausea. By this time we had already missed the first set of locks. Doctor put her on cabin restriction for 48 hours, thank god we had our verandah! We did get to take turns getting out of our cabin but DD missed it all. She was feeling better by evening but still just very tired. Disney was great about it and brought a DVD player and some games up to tour room. Concierge did my laundry and made sure we were well taken care of. Our dining room server came up to our room with menus, took our order & then delivered it to our room for us - AMAZING! ...........we cancelled our Cartegena Tour knowing she would not be up to it. We were able to get a refund on our excursion. We ended up just hanging on the empty ship. DS and I went up to the pool and hung out for awhile.

By Wednesday she was definitely ready to get out. We had a nice day but she still didn't want to go to the clubs - she never did go back. We had a great day snorkeling in Aruba then that night DH had some "issues". Not throwing up but ya know...... that lasted for about 24 hours.

Had good sea days, an awesome day at Castaway Cay, that night ds13 complains of a major headache - gave him some advil, figured too much sun.

He gets up the next morning with the same headache and feels warm. Of course we are in the dining room for breakfast and he is not hungry at all. I knew at that point, he was getting sick too.............we walked out of Animators and sure enough he throws up all the water he had drunk with the Advil. Cast Members rushed over and cleaned it up, he went to the bathroom and finished his business and off we went trying to get off the ship BUT there was a HUGE back up so we waited until we know we could get through and made a run for it. DS made it through two flights and we got 5 minutes from home and again he threw up. After that he was just running a fever. He did miss first day of school but he is feeling better and went to school today.

ANYWAYS, I missed out on a lot of activities we really wanted to do BUT I am glad we are all home and better. Honestly, I feel our trip was a bit too long for us - too much family togetherness. We really banked on the clubs and the kids spending time there but they did not enjoy the clubs this time at all.

I want to say thanks to all the fish extender participants, we really had fun checking it each day to see what we got. Hope everyone enjoyed the Advil and the Princess Chapstick, DH is the Plant Manager at the Wyeth plant here in Richmond.

Have a great rest of the week everyone and I hope all that sayed on for the 5day is enjoying their trip in spite of the weather.

Sue

So sorry the kids got sick on the cruise. Glad to hear they are feeling better!

OMG Sue! I'm so sorry about your family getting sick. My DH and I both got Montezuma's Revenge (or something similar) after Puerto Vallarta and were in isolation for 48 hours as well. Concierge service was great, but I would have rather been up on deck. We managed to get a cold/upper respiratory illness at the end of the cruise (like many others), so now we're battling that too. I'm glad everyone is starting to feel better now!

Glad you're feeling better too!

Our first cruise was to be a 3day. Hurricane Jeanne was coming closer. It wasn't til we left the port they announced a 4 day cruise and we were off the Cozumel. So I can totally see your concern. Hope you have calm seas.

So sorry you were cooped up in the cabin. we got the headcold in PV due to the rain and getting into the a/c. I am still coughing and DH is seeing DR tomorrow for his checkup and I will probably have him see me too. The Advil came in handy. Cheryl found hers as we used up the Tylenol and DH pulled his back a bit so he needed something. Than k you

Ummm the rumor was you guys had put yourselves in Mickey Jail.:lmao: :lmao: Glad it didn't last long. I don't think I met you. Lots I never got to meet.

In cleaning up the goody bag, I want to thank everyone for the great FEs. I never got a good look at some of them and they are so inventive. Back to the clean up.

Ditto that! The FE gifts were a blast! Thanks everyone!

Arlene sorry to hear you got the cough too! Hope you feel better soon!

We finally made it home a few hours ago. We can't walk through the living room as it is wall to wall suitcases here.

Reality will hit hard tomorrow. The kids have school, I have to cram for a test on Friday that I was supposed to be studying for all throughout the cruise. (Deanna, that day you saw me studying on deck was the only time that I did!) I go back to work tomorrow night, and rotations start on Monday. Linda starts back to work with 3 back to back to back 12 hour shifts this weekend.

At least we'll be able to daydream about all of the great times we had and the great friends that we made on the TOAL! We can't imagine a better bunch of pirates to have travelled with. Can't wait to see everybody's pictures as they show up on the photo sharing site!

Glad to read that people are arriving home safely. Hugs and prayers going out to anybody coming home to issues. Also keeping our friends on the 5 day in our prayers for a safe remainder of their journey and a safe trip home.

Monica, it was such a pleasure meeting you and Trevoy. Sorry to hear that Trevoy is having some bouts of depression again. Please let us know if there's anything you need.

Good luck on that test Mike! :wizard:

Oh I'm so sorry about your son! ack...... pneumonia, ack.. not the regular every day variety of cold by a long shot! I sure hope he gets to feeling better soon!
I think you might be on to something there about the snorkeling because I'm not super good at snorkeling either (get kinda panicky when I see big fish) and I snorkeled in Aruba (freaked out with the huge big parrot fish that swarmed around us when someone near me all the sudden whipped out a tube of fish food and started feeding the fish right next to me!) and then again in Castaway Cay (and swallowed a lot of water because I was a bit panicky as we got out further and my mask kept leaking in water and burning my eyes so I had to keep stopping to fix it- and I don't like that- because I can't SEE what's under me! I get visions of barracuda, stingrays ready to barb me or heaven forbid SHARKS! even the tiny ones would freak me out) So maybe that's why I'm the only one with a bit of a cough now- from the snorkeling I did. I hope so... because that probably means the kids won't catch it.

Prayers for your son and hope he gets well quick! *sending pixie dust his way*

Weight check.........
DD #1 -lost 5lbs. I'm not surprised. About midway thru the cruise for a few days she wouldn't eat at all because she'd bit her tongue and it turned into a cancer sore/ulcer or whatever you call it on the side of her tongue... so eating hurt so she didn't eat except a little ice cream till it healed.

DS- same
DD #2- same
Me- exactly the same to the OUNCE. I'm telling you- i can eat as little, or as much, as I want and stay the same weight! Which I guess in THIS case it's a good thing- atleast I ddin't gain a bunch!

DH- gained 26lbs!
:scared1: :scared1:
He noticed about halfway thru the cruise his shorts and pants were fitting a bit tight, but he didn't know he'd gained that much!
Granted he is a bit swollen- he didn't realize it until Tuesday morning putting on his steel toed work boots and could barely get his feet in them and they were all squished at the ankles (like edema or however that is spelled) when he took them off that afternoon. But still- a lot of that weight gain is not from being swollen!
I don't know why he's worried about it- you watch, within a month (at most) it will all be gone. I totally hate how he can lose weight by just saying he wants to lose weight and then POOF-he loses the weight. Makes me sick. LOL

Did everyone else gain, lose or stay the same?

I stayed the same! I didn't eat anything more than I usually would at home and took the stairs constantly. The pant legs on all my work pants are loose because my muscles tightened up from going up and down the stairs.

Cursed or Just Living in HE double hockey sticks ? you be the judge...

Got home at 6:00 Monday. The ex had been over at my request to get the boys schedules for school. He sent a detailed email, sharpened the pencils & left the mail on the counter... As I was reviewing the school mail I saw both kids had half days on Tuesday. Ex's response... I can't change my work schedule on such short notice. (note to self, give more notice)

Monday evening 10:00 pm DS11 vomited half a pizza. He removed the trash liner from the trash can sitting next to the toilet & vomited into the can. I said Nick, why would you vomit into the trash can when the toilet was right next to it? He said, But Mom, I always throw up in the trash can (noted)

Tuesday morning 7:05, the school bus that was due at 7:10 arrived at 7:00. DS11 missed the bus. Drove him to school.

Tuesday 12:00 got a call from DS8's school. He didn't get on the bus. Why not? Well, when I said he had to take the bus to the after school care, he thought I meant I would pick him up & drive him to after school care.

Picked him up & drove him to after care. It's 12:40 & I have a 1:00 meeting. I figure I'll be 10 minutes late. I hit I-95...parking lot from some accident. 1:40 I drive back to my office having missed the meeting.

Wednesday: I have a 7:30 meeting with two presidents & three vice presidents to talk about expansion of our business.

Arrainge for before care for DS8
Leave the house at 6:40 to drop him off
Leave DS11 home with a timer set for 6:55 to catch the 7:10 bus
Instructions: call me when you get on the bus... if you miss the bus, don't panic. Call me and I'll swing by after the meeting & take you to school.

7:00 drop off DS8
7:02 phone call... Mom I'm on the bus
7:04 traffic report... water main break on Baltimore Pike... I take the back roads
7:29 screech into the parking lot at corporate run up the three flights of stairs (thanks to DCL for the training)
7:30 doors to corporate are locked
7:35 still locked...
7:40 still locked...
7:41 call my office coordinator, am I in the right place? yes. do I have the right time? yes. Can you start calling all of the secretaries & see if someone can let me in?
8:35 got a phone call from the meeting organizer... Lisa, I'm surprised you missed this very important meeting.

The crazed person living inside my head excapes...

What stress laidened, non-vacationy escapades await tomorrow...

Stay tuned...

...

We still have the cruddy cough. It is getting better. Hope the fever goes away.

I'm gonna try and see a doc tomorrow to get some drugs to fight this cough.

For a while I was thinking I might be getting better ...

... then on the flight home I definately felt worse.

At times I felt just as depicted below...

I was hoping I'd lost weight. I know I was eating MORE food than I normally do (but usually I really don't eat enough- at home I usually don't eat until dinner time and only because by that point my stomach is screaming at me that I better eat something PRONTO- which ofcourse eating only dinner every day isn't good for you!) but I was eating BETTER food for me (ie: not junk food hardly at all and honestly didn't really have room for chocolate desserts and such. I was surprised I wasn't interested in the chocolatey desserts but I guess I ate enough of the meals or something?) But anyway- from all the walking and stairs I noticed my capris were slightly looser in the thigh areas- but I guess I lost inches instead of lbs. Which I'll take, btw. ;)

Stay tuned...

wow......
I hope tomorrow is better for you!
(and so unfair that you managed to make it there early and then couldn't get IN for the meeting. :( )

Suitcases still not unpacked. I have some form of mild ick. I can't tell at this point it is is allergies or a cold.
Went to the office today for my annual review. I was all ready with my "I'm sorry I was on the internet so much (and I mean a LOT) this last year and a half but since my cruise is over now I will be better" speech. I got out "I will be more attentive at work since my cruise is over" and I got a completely befuddled look from my manager, she shook her head like I was crazy and went on to give me a near perfect review. :confused3 Go figure! Bless her heart- she must have low expectations even though she has been my manager for 15 out of 17 years. But- good news none the less.

My boss did my job for the 1st week I was gone and decided I have way to much on my daily plate of to do now - that it is no wonder I cannot dedicate time to supervise the staff. WOO HOO - what was she thinking of my quarterly meltdowns. She has told me to take a step back and organize my days and then meet at the end of the week of how we are going to proceed going forward. YEAH!!!!! now will all of these gray hairs on my head now retreat!

My coworker and the supervisor of our collections dept told her - she has been telling you this for a year and a half just not all at once. ;)

So I am looking forward to better days ahead.

DH is actively looking for a new job now that the TOAL is over. Got 1 internal job offer (requires moving to Kansas) and has an interview tomorrow with another company. Fingers crossed on this one. He is way under paid for what he does now compared to his co workers because he has been moved 6 times internally due (in 4 years) to reorganizations and the company does not do mulitple grade jumps at a time... so it would take FOREVER to get to where he should be. Each manager he has says wow you are under paid I am going to work on this and then there is another better way to orgainze the IT group.

I too came home with the sinus headache, head about to explode feeling and nasty cough. I am giving it till this weekend before going to the DR. As soon as I feel it is clearing come the pressure in my head becaome so intense. get well every one.

Great news! Congrats.... I'm sure you deserved it even if you were spending a lot of time on the thread. hehe We're all good multi-taskers, right? :)

ugh, I didn't meet you on the cruise did I? I meant to.... now I'm having a hard time putting faces to the names on the thread to know who I DID meet on the thread! LOL

Grumpy- I don't think I met you either. ugh-amundo.... we need more scheduled meets next time so we can REALLY meet everyone. LOL

Oh Erin, not you too! Hope you are feeling better soon!

Oh yeah- we rebooked onboard several rooms (the last cruise I had no idea we could book more than 2 rooms- that we could book up to 5 since we had 5 in our family! And with deposits half price... well you know -I couldn't resist! LOL) all dummy dates for 12-5-09, but I've contacted my TA to see what rooms they can get for us (for 2 of the rooms) for 12-26-09. That's really the only date that works for us around all our schedules, I can't take Ruby out of anymore school since she's in highschool... what a PITA it is for her to have missed that first week of school and 2 weeks of summer band camp! and I really want to try a cruise that is not smack in the heat of the summer... should be somewhat cooler in Dec, right? But we can't afford to go again as soon as THIS christmas break... so next christmas it is I guess.
We'll still have other rooms on the dummy dates and maybe move those to 2010 or 2011 cruises later. We can't really go on the 12-5-09 cruise- that's not during the kids holiday break. Is everyone really going on that date or just dummy dates for you all too?

i'm heading to bed. I know.. you all want to faint that I'm going to bed this early, right? Mama bear is tir-ed.
