I'm gonna try to tell this story of Cora's first day of school. I hope I can put it into words so you guys can really appreciate it, because it truely is an amusing story. Typical for kindergarteners, anyway.

Cora started all day kindergarten at public school on Monday. She had her clothes all picked out for the first day. It wasn't what I would have picked, but it wasn't bad by any means. It's a big deal for us because our kids get on the bus at 7 am and in Sept(or our recent August) mornings it is still chilly. She picked a skirt & hoodie along with her crocs. Cora got on the bus and sat in the first seat across from her brother.

Randall, Cora, and Marilyn...(M-I-L), first day of school, don't they all look soooo happy?

At some point during the day, Cora got to be the Calender helper. And during this time one of teachers made a comment to Cora about how smart she is. A boy in her class, whose name she still does not know, told her he was smarter than she was. Cora does not back down when it comes to defending herself, she will argue, yell, scream or cry. Whatever it takes, as long as it takes, she does not tolerate being called names or being made fun of and she will also stick up for her friends. This boy was not warned of the wrath of Cora. She actually did something I have never known her to do. She's 5, mind you. She said to this kid, "Yeah, well, what's 10+10?" The boy spoke quick and said,"8". When Cora was telling me this story she seemed a little to happy that the kid got the wrong answer. I told her she should have just left it alone, not caused a problem. Afterall, I didn't think she knew 10+10, not without a numberline or me telling her how to figure it out. She's bright but doesn't always use the stategies she has to figure stuff out on her own, so I asked her if she knew the answer, hoping she'd guess something and be wrong so I could prove this point how she really didn't know either. Well, that little bugger came up with 20 quite quickly, not too quickly, but I knew she figured it out on her own. I had to switch my gameplan, come up with another lesson for her to learn from this experience. I don't want her being a bully you know. I went with....."Okay, so you knew this and he didn't, but I'm sure there are things he knows that you don't, so maybe you guys can learn from each other." This did not make her happy.

Cora has come home from school each day with a new story about this "boy who thinks he's smarter than me." That's what she calls him. She's learned about 10 kids names in her class, some she has to remember something that happened that day and what the teacher called that child, to remember the name. It's like she's retracing her steps to find something, only in her head. Most names or what ever question I ask her she can find the answer, but not this kids name. He shall forever be known as "the boy who thinks he's smarter than Cora."

Yup, I'm home and as Colleen pasted you can see some of the things that we did.

Our flights were great, both actually arrived 1/2 hour early. Magical Express worked wonderful too. We were at POP Century in an hour from the time we got off the plane. Everytime we went to catch a bus or a boat to go somewhere, it magically appeared :wizard: We got so that we'd laugh and say...... we need a bus...... POOF!!!

Crowds were thin to non existant. Ate at Trails End at Fort Wilderness with only about 50 other people in the building. Didn't get turned away from any other table service places we tried either (without reservations) and always got a table almost immediately.

We went to Typhoon Lagoon which was our first time at a Disney waterpark. We had fun there, though I only did one slide and then floated around in the creek for about 2 hours total :thumbsup2 I stood in the wave pool for a bit too. Kids had fun there.
Actually sounds kinda nice, even if you had to deal with some bad weather here and there! Did you feel like you were living on the edge?

Cora decided to wear her lime crocs to school most days this week. Notice that one strap is in front of the shoe and the other is behind. She said she likes them best this way!!

It was chilly in the morning, rainy most of the day. The kids didn't even get recess outside on the first day of school.

Wendy, Cora is amazing....
Thank you. I worry about her not being shy or afraid though. She'll confront anyone who makes fun of her or calls her a name. She also is quick to correct people when they are wrong,....even adults. I can't imaging what she will be like by the time she is 12 or so!!

Wendy ~ I agree, Cora is amazing, and good for her sticking up for herself :) and I love your photos

Robin ~ Welcome home, it sounds like you've had a busy few days and that you've had a great time

Mandy :)

It took me 25 minutes to catch up on this thread. I gotta make more time to DIS!

CORA's 1st day made me smile sweetly. What an amazing, lovely girl!

My Caroline started K5 a few weeks ago too. Her big story this far isn't near as cute. She got poop everywhere and had to go home...she got sick and couldn't get to the bathroom in time. Amazingly yuck! She's so embarrassed. She didn't want to go back to school. But she's back now and loving it.

well, i spent so much time reading up on y'all I can't really catch you up on me...

but the house isn't sold and i'm still dreaming of jan 7th...sometimes it helps me get through the "poopy" days. (literally.)

see you all! :wave2:

poor Caroline. I'm sure that she was very upset to have the other kids see that.

I'm glad she could get past it and is having fun at school now.

Cora sounds like an amazing little girl. It's good that she stands up for herself. That skill will serve her well in the future (or get her in a whole heck of a lot of trouble ;) )

Woohoo !! Our Disney Cruise travel kit arrived this morning. I was so excited when I saw it. I love receiving stuff from Disney (sad I know ~ LOL).

Anyway roll on 9th October when we can make reservations for Palo.

I'm off to read it again :thumbsup2

Mandy :)

Mandy, I just got caught up on your TR

It's so nice getting you know you and your adorable family while reading about your adventures in the world :)

You're a girl after my heart, I look at the pics to see what Disney you'll be wearing each day...the tiara your DD got is gorgeous! I would've caved too if my DD wanted one.

---warning...picture time again...---

This was my DDs big purchase our first trip to MK...the Purple Princess hat down front is my DD...DS is in the purple shirt and crown, we had just finished eating at CRT.

I tried to check in at the Disney Cruise site and they want to know how we're arriving and departing the cruise ship :confused3

I have no idea at this point if we are driving flying etc. If you say flying then they want a flight number :confused3

Guess I'll have to look up a flight number and put it in there and change it later if I need to.

Colleen - Thanks for taking the time to read my reports, and for your nice comments. I think your piccie is lovely too.

Robin - Do DCL need to know our information early? I was just going to fill all the forms in on-line a week or so before the cruise and then print them off (I'll have to have a look on their website tomorrow).

Everyone - I hope you're having a great weekend, has anyone been clothes shopping for the cruise yet ??

Mandy :)

Two :teeth:

I have bought some new things but by the time I go on our Disney Cruise they won't be new anymore. I'll be giving them a test run on my Royal Caribbean Cruise in November :teeth:

I'm looking forward to our Disney Cruise much more than the Royal Caribbean Cruise. The Royal Caribbean will be our very first 7 day cruise though and on such a large ship (Adventure of the Seas). I'm kind of excited about going on such a large ship with lots of new things to explore.

I'm more excited about the Disney Cruise because I can see all of you guys :goodvibes

Robin ~ your cruise will be here before you know it. It'll be nice to compare it to DCL, and of course you'll be able to do formal night ~ are you looking forward to that ? Where will you be sailing too

Everyone ~ I hope you're having a great weekend
