Before my experience this morning at the MK I had been looking for a thread that went into detail about rope drop and wait times for 7DMT but did not come across much. Well after my experience today I can answer any questions one might have. I was the first one behind the rope that you must walk behind and I had about a 10 minute wait for the ride. Hope I can help anyone who needs answers about this. :)

We're you able to veer right at castle toward tea cups or did you go through the castle to arrive at SDMT?

You are who I'm looking for! I thought I was smart making FP+ at 5 in the morning as I am 60 days out today. 7DMT was gone until afternoon (doesn't work for us) so we are standby and I need to plan strategy to try and ride before our first FP kicks in . I am a TGM believer but they are no longer in business. We drive up early Sunday morning drop luggage at hotel, pick up magic bands and plan to be at rope drop. With TGM 20-30 min early worked great for us in years past with legacy FP. I see from touringplans.com they suggest 50 min, which may be a bit tough for us. How early and exactly how did you get to 7DMT? Down through center of park? Is everyone heading there vs. space mountain? Unfortunately, we had to schedule our first fp for 9:15-10:15 (space mountain), so hope to ride 7DMT before 10:15....

Just got back.............

Suggest as close to 45 minutes early as you can. Hundreds and hundreds are going to 7DMT. The forced "follow the rope" procedure was so chaotic, I emailed WDW to question the wisdom and safety of guiding a "mob" down main street, splitting them left and right, and then squeezing through the castle. I should get a reply from them in the next week or so.

If you are not at the front of the pack, your wait will be substantial.

Like I said..................hundreds were in the pack headed towards 7DMT.

We were at MK the morning of May 29th during a.m. EMH.

Hi there! Thanks for your report and for your note to disney. I am really surprised they are doing rope drop this way after they changed rope drop procedures at DHS and Epcot to avoid exactly what you describe. I hated rope drop at Hollywood Studios when they did the follow the rope to TSM. In my opinion, a couple of idiots not following the rules and running down Main Street is less dangerous and far more pleasant for everyone else than the follow the rope/mob procedure. Following a rope with a mob down Main Street does not a pleasant morning make.

You can go over the bridge to the right of the castle past the teacups. Which is the fastest way to the Mine Ride. On opening day a lot of people didn't think about it and decided to follow the crowd through the castle. They were the ones arriving to the line late and having to wait quite a bit

I was there opening day. Got there about 20 min before park opening. Just barely made it through the ticket entrance before they stopped everyone there because there was already enough inside waiting for the opening show. So we were near the back of the crowd.

Walked briskly, took the bridge to the right of the teacups, then only had about a 15-20 min wait before we were on the ride.

You don't have to arrive an hour ahead of park opening to be on it quick. Just make sure you get through the ticket entrance before it fills and then walk quickly.

Not going to SDMT at rope drop, but I have a related question. We will be going to Ariel's Grotto and Under the Sea at rope drop. Is there a way that we can somewhat avoid the crowds going to SDMT? What would be the best way to go?

With the "guided rope walk" down Main St, did you find people were pushing and trying to get towards the front? Or was it pretty orderly? I can't imagine it being smooth.

Thanks for the information everybody. Hopefully the crowds will be lower when we visit in October.

Oh yes it was still not a pleasant slow walk like cast members wanted. I got ran over by multiple strollers and multiple elbow pushers. Granted I was by myself. I felt bad for families who had to stick together through that mess.

For Ariel my advice would be able to make a right and not go straight through the castle. You will still have crowds of seven dwarfs but I think it will be less than going straight through the castle. I made the mistake of not going to the right before the castle as cast members were blocking it off. When I looked backed they had opened it up.

Can anyone report on what the rope drop and wait has been like on days with AM EMH and, therefore, no FPs in that first hour?

I expect that there will still be hordes of people going up Main Street but that the wait time will build up a little less slowly. I have seen Josh's report on posted wait times but, based on our prior experience at attractions like TSMM, I suspect that the actual wait time is not really an hour within a few minutes after 8 AM.

I'm going to have to do that in August when we visit our daughter and get in on her passes and won't be able to get FP in advance.
