I am sorry to hear this

Still haven't planned anything for excursions, need to do that but we can't book for awhile as of yet, so still have some time

Ohio State University has built a new student union and it opens next month, my dear aunt is having a suite named in her name and we have that dedication next month, we at first was figuring a rather dressy affair for the Sat night dinner, when the invite arrived, dress is Buckeye business casual - so had to go back out shopping for that

Another invite arrived on Friday the actual dedication will be earlier in the day and then a brunch with president of OSU, Archie Griffin, etc, so back out we went for shopping for that

I am shopped out :dance3:

My cousin's daughter goes to OSU, I'll have to ask her about the new student union. Sounds like a fun and busy day for your family.
BTW...is Buckeye business casual, dress all in red and white?!? :confused3

I had my great aunt's age wrong, she was 97. She definately lived a full life the way she wanted and no one told her otherwise. :flower3:

either that or red and gray - I am going with gray and white - red looks terrible on me

Robert it looks like you are going to need that ark again this week. :headache:

Correct me if I'm wrong. If we book Berlin on your Own we'll probably be on a bus to Berlin. If we book Berlin's Turbulent History we should be on the train ?? Trying to decide between the 2. Any thoughts ? Thanks !:confused3

I think you have to read the small print, for all trips it can actually be either, but from the wording some look like train and the wording on the others implies train.

Basically there is a fixed number of train seats on a chartered train, so the shore trips that favour a train fill it first, if there are too many bookings the others stay as bus, if overall there are fewer Booker's to Berlin the buses get cancelled.

Hard to explain really,

Say train takes 1,000.

If total people booking Berlin trips is less than 1,000 we are all on the train.

If bookings are over 1,000, the tours with Buses, will be on buses.

The train is a fixed amount.

UK SUMMER WEATHER

A small alternative to the Met Office who generally predict the weather long term very well, (unlike the Met Office) has said, we are going to have a heatwave in the UK this summer, its going to be long and very hot and the first two weeks in August will break all records.

They predicted our wet summer, against the Met offices, barbecue summer for 2009, and they also predicted a long cold winter to March 2010, when the Met office said it would be mild. So they have done well..

Its to do with the jet stream, El Nino factor and Atlantic ocean sea temperatures.

Thanks for the input!
We arrive in London Thursday at 11:45AM, so will have 2 full days plus Thursday after we get to the hotel. So time-wise, we are good with the package deal.
The NE site does say that they aren't responsible if we miss our coach, but if we are departing from Heathrow into London they will try and get us on the next one available. They do say to allow 1 1/2 hours after your plane lands and we have 1 hour 45 minutes.
I thought the site looked pretty good. It seemed like a pretty centralized place to book all sorts of things and it didn't look like there were extra costs involved.
Is the London Travel Card the same thing as the Oyster Card? If not, what's the difference?

I looked at the website, Its an Oyster card.

I must say personally from Heathrow to Victoria I would say TUBE every time. Its cheap, they run every few minutes, you do not need to book, its the end of the line so you can always get a seat, just go to the second train at peak times. Its one escalator down, there is a lift as well.

National Express have gaps between them, so if you miss one you have a wait and may not get on the next one if people are booked and its full.
For Victoria you can swap to the District line at Barons court. The Piccadilly pops up above ground just after Heathrow at Hounslow, and stays up to Barons court, there the District line is outside it on either side. So walk off at Barons court, across the platform and on a District train all in three feet. Then at Victoria up a flight of stairs as that station is sub surface. Not tube.

Speaking of Celestine and the bus; I take it the only way for us to pay is to have actual bills to hand over? It's not a problem, I just want to make sure I save out enough for both ways.

Yes please - sterling would be good! YOu will have plenty of notice as to cost so you can do the biz. at the forex

Speaking of currencies, I am thinking of just having dollars and euros only.

I have booked day long DCL trips at Oslo, Tallinn and Stockholm, and has a meal included, so 'spend' is limited to souvenirs, and that can be on a credit card.

StP, needs Dollars, or Euros, and Berlin will be Euros for the sightseeing. Copenhagen I have a few spare hours to shop outside the ship.

So with my days filled on all inclusive trips, do not need much.

Andrew we used GBP in one of the shops in Tallinn, they didn't want US$ at the time but gladly accepted GBP; we were running low on Euros and needed them for the next port. We also noticed a couple of the shops in StP had prices listed in US$, Euros and GBP so you would be fine with any currency there.

Thanks, I'll add that to the first post just as a reminder to all.

You will love the food at this pub. We ate there last time on the LE/dinner combo and were really impressed. Their trifle was out of this world. I can't remember what we had to pay extra for, but it wasn't much for 8 of us.
The menu they offer has many choices and everyone had something different and no one complained of bad food. My English friends were very impressed with the food there as well. One of them ordered the steak and kidney pie - I had to try it and let's just say I won't be ordering it in the near or distant future - but she liked it very much and said it was the best she'd had in a long time.
I remember you saying you liked it:thumbsup2
Not a fan of kidney so I'll be avoiding that one as well:rolleyes1
I noticed they had fried fish and chips, did anyone have that?
Did not see a trifle on their menu-was that a special?
I think I made mistake with the package I picked-we are paying extra I think for 3 copies of their cookbook:headache::laughing:
So..on the upside..now I have gifts for my DMiL and my Mom:confused3

I had my great aunt's age wrong, she was 97. She definately lived a full life the way she wanted and no one told her otherwise. :flower3:

Sounds like a very strong lady:thumbsup2:hug:
When they live that long... I imagine the party they are having with all the folks that went before them:upsidedow

Maybe we will book for the 16th as well!:confused3
You and your family are welcome to join us if we happen to be there at the same time:thumbsup2
In fact...any body here is:flower3:...we could make it a DIS meet:dance3:

That is what I found frustrating about those descriptions-only a few were definite about the transportation type.
Found our own company to pick us up at the port and drive us there:confused3

So...expect hot in London at least. So probably pack at least one pair of shorts. The other ports will most likely be cooler though:confused3

Ok...I'm totally clueless when it comes to the terms used in the UK.
The "sterling" means pounds (GB?) right?
and "biz. at the forex" ...stopping at the atm?

I expect we will have our UK money set aside ahead of time so no problem:goodvibes

Just for the fun of it I'm thinking I'll try to get some currency from each country ahead of time:woohoo:
Will have mostly pounds and euros though :confused3

Good Morning All
Woke up to a malfunctioning computer switched out My nice big digital monitor for my daughters little monitor & it worked! So the computer is good but either the monitor or Digital video card is bad?:confused3:headache:

Excited to be going on our first Disney cruise!
DD - 16
DS - 13
Not sure exactly how this works. My first time to join.

Interested in finding another family to share tour in STP. Should I just contact the tour company I want and ask them to try to match us OR should I post something on this forum?

Have spent hours reading all this info. It is so wonderful that people are willing to share their knowledge. Thank you for the time you devote to this. I would appreciate a bit of direction!

Thanks,

Welcome! This is certainly a good place to get to know people and ask questions. I will let the experts handle your StP tour question :)

We are having our family meeting this weekend to finalize all of our 1st/2nd choices for the excursions and the final post cruise hotel in Iceland (flying through there on the way home and stopping for a few days) will be booked this week!

Next step is finalizing what we want to do in London and based on some of your posts over the past few pages get some things pre-booked. We already have our Tower of London Keys Ceremony tickets thanks to Celestine :worship: but we are going the day before the rest of you. I think we are for sure going to book that dinner/eye/boat ride thing that was posted above (thanks for that link). We are also planning a day out to Stonehenge/Bath and a day touring the area between Edenbridge where we are staying and Dover to see the castles. That will still leave us 2 or 3 days in London to see all the sights there - just need to find what can be pre-booked and what can't. (yay for tour books and websites)

Anyone doing a DCL tour in Tallin ? It's easy to do Old Town own your own. We did this 2 yrs ago, but would like to see more of Tallin. Any thoughts on the tours : Old Tallin and Haapsalu Summer Resort OR Tallin Highlights ?

Our Grandson would like to go there and I see it's covered in the London Pass. Anyone been there ? Comments ? Thanks !:thumbsup2
