7/13/13 ~~ Eastern Mediterranean Mouseketeers!

Hi all,

I know said I wasn't going to do this because it is too early, lol, but had some time today so put the spreadsheet together for the FEs....getting a jump on it!!

Here is the link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AppOX8MHZzCzdGNBemdyNllySXh2dzUwclYzX29PUkE

For those who have indicated they are interested in doing FEs, please check to see that I have all of your info correct & all columns are filled in. I'm missing a few details from some people in a few spots, so when you get a chance, please let me know those specifics (you can post here, but a PM is sure to reach me more quickly). I'm not sure if anyone is able to edit this yet (still working on permissions for it), but it should be readable for everyone (hopefully). :hippie:

Beth, could you please add this link to the first page when you get a chance? TIA!!!!

Oh, and as for faves......DH loves Tigger, DS21 has always loved Pluto (when he outgrew the stuffed animal collections, Pluto was the only collection that stayed), & I am on the fence...it's either Mickey or Captain Jack (lol is he a character?) :rotfl:
.

Hi All,

It has been a while since I've posted... been busy here! But, definitely haven't forgotten about our Med cruise next year! :cool1:

I know that finding a hotel in Europe with rooms that fit a family of 4 can be hard, so I've been on the search early to find rooms for our land portion of our trip to prevent us from having to book two hotels rooms to fit DH, me and our two boys.

Anyway, for any of you who are traveling with kids, and haven't looked into hotels in Barcelona yet for your pre-cruise night, or stay, I was able to book a Jr. Suite at Le Meridien in Barcelona, which I've heard (I think someone wrote it here, too) that it is a Disney Preferred Hotel, for July 10 - 13, 201. A Jr. Suite fits 4 people (King bed, in bedroom, and pull out sofa bed in living room area). It was expensive, but cheaper than two standard rooms... it came out to about $460/night UDS, and includes a full breakfast. The standard rooms that just fit 2 people were around $300/night USD, and included a free breakfast (just FYI for those who are just 2 travellers).

Anyway, just wanted to share... I'm sure there are cheaper options, but this is where we are going to stay pre-cruise. :) Can't wait!!

We are still figuring out the rest of our land trip... we are most likely flying into either London or Paris 10 - 12 days before the cruise, and then make our way to Barcelona, but I wanted to for sure secure the pre-cruise hotel to guarentee we we had a place to stay in Barcelona! Don't want to miss the ship! :scared1:

Depending on our post-cruise plans, we may stay in Le Merdien a night after the cruise, but we are still figuring that out... depends on when and where we fly out, etc.

Welcome to all the new people who have booked recently!! It's already March 2012... July 2013 is still far away, BUT getting closer! :)

Take care,
Kathy

Hi Kathy,
This is exactly what we did on our 2011 cruise: Jr. Suite at Le Meridien. The suite is large and beautiful. No amenities at this hotel though - and the breakfast wasn't very good :(
Convenience of having Disney on site was great - airline lost our bags and Disney followed up for us so that the bags did make it to the ship before we departed.

Kathy,
As I mentioned earlier, we stayed at Casp74 Apartments and for three nights I paid bet $500 - 600 in total. A 2 bed 2 bath with full kitchen. This was last year around the same time. Many disney cruisers used this place. And we just reserved a taxi from a recommended service. So I would look into.

I saw your recommendation on the Barcelona hotels thread that someone started. I am so happy that a list has been organized with DISers recommendations and although I'm only halfway through the list so far, i'm so happy to find many recommended hotels with great amenities and reviews for anywhere from $225-$500 for 2 NIGHTS in US dollars. This is a great relief for me after hearing initial reports of hotels at $400-500 a night and i was fearing that would be my only option. So glad to hear otherwise!

It might be this thread on Barcelona hotels...

I'll post it over on page one in post three too!

Beth
Yup, thats the one! Very helpful comments from the DISers and links to all the hotels so you can research more comments/reviews/pricing/amenities on TripAdvisor and other sites. I feel so much better knowing there are more affordable options out there that still have great reviews and great offerings.

Thanks so much. Most don't have next summer's booking available to see prices, but it helps to see this year and hope it doesn't go up too much! :confused3
I have gotten through the top half of the list so far and all of them allowed me to put in dates for July 2013 and see the prices and book if I wanted to. 3rd party sites like Orbitz and Travelocity may not go that far out but if you go directly to the hotels website, at least for the top half like I did, it definitely lets you see prices and book. The best prices were for prepaying in advance. I'll probably wait closer until about 1 year out when I can see airfare prices to decide which hotel to book.

Hi everyone,

Hope you all had a great weekend! One more week closer to our Med cruise next year (but still seems so far away!!! But, so fun to think about and begin to plan).

I am posting because a few days ago, I posted about Junior Suites available at Le Merdian for around $420/night USD (355 Euros) and they fit 2 adults and 2 children. Well, after I posted that, I found out that Le Merdien wanted to charge us an additional 55 Euros per night for the 2nd child (so, Le Meridien says that 2 adults and 1 child are included in the price, but the 2nd child/4th person will be an additional 55 Euros per night, even if both children share the sofa bed).

So, I emailed reservations, and questioned this (since the website clearly says it sleeps 4 people, and no where does it say that they willl charge 55 Euros for the 4th person in a room that sleeps 4). Reservations emailed me back and basically said this is their policy, and we have to pay the 55 additional Euros per night. So, I emailed the hotel manager about this, and long story short, the manager (who was very nice) said this is the policy, and you will find this in pretty much most hotels in Europe, even with rooms that are made for & have bedding for 4 people... that you still have to pay extra for the 4th person. I'm glad I found this out now, rather than when I was checking out at the hotel seeing an additional charge of 55 Euros (plus tax) on my bill!!

Anyway, that is the nutshell, but just wanted to let you all know in case anyone here decided to book a Junior Suite at Le Meridien to fit their family of 4, that you will end up paying an additional 55 Euros per night, plus tax, on top of the room price. There is no budging on this (believe me, I tried! :) ).

There are lots of cheaper options in Barcelona than this for sure for a family of 4 (as mentioned here on this forum, so that is good!!!)

But, I just wanted to post this for anyone who is a family of 4 and going to splurge and stay at Le Meridien. Or, even if you are planning to stay at a different hotel (not apartment, but hotel) that has rooms that fit 2 adults/2 children, you may want to email the hotel to see if there are additional charges for the 2nd child on top of the room price.

Also, the hotel manager told me that not every Junior Suite fits 2 adults/2 children, and if you will have 2 adults/2 children in your room, you need to email the hotel and tell them to make sure they book you in a 4 person Junior Suite because on the website when you make reservations, it only lets you select the number of adults, and there is no place to select how many children you have. She said they only have a few Junior Suites in the hotel that fit 2 adults/2 children. Also, if you for sure want a non-smoking room, you have to request in the comments field or via email.

Anyway, just some FYI for anyone who has 2 adults/2 children who is thinking of staying here! :) It does look like a beautiful hotel, and in a great location.... just $$$$!!!

Take care,
Kathy

What is your favorite Disney movie?

My favorite Disney classic is Lady and the Tramp. And I also like the original Parent Trap.

DH likes the old movie Bon Voyage.

Its hard for me to pick a favorite but I have to say I just LOVED the on-demand feature on the Dream where you get to watch favorite Disney movies anytime- I caught up on many animated favorites from my childhood that I haven't seen in years. While I own most at home its hard as an adult to make the time to watch but I just loved putting the on demand on in the room while getting ready in the morning or before dinner or bed. What a nice touch!

Growing up in the 70’s, my favorite thing was watching the Wonderful World of Disney every Sunday night. I loved all the movies, but I think my favorite classic is “Escape to Witch Mountain.” I really wanted Tia’s powers. Watching movies with my kids, I think my favorite is “The Little Mermaid” for the music.

My DP loves the classic “Swiss Family Robinson.” She said she always wanted to live in the treehouse. As an adult, her favorite movie to watch with the kids is Tarzan. Anyone seeing a pattern here? I tease it’s because she still longs for that treehouse.

DD has loved “The Lion King” since she was born. DS loves “Cars.”

Just a comment, we are going on the 28 May Alaska cruise. The FE coordinator is putting this type of information (e.g., favorite color, favorite Disney character/song/movie) in her spreadsheet so people have gift ideas. I know it’s extra work but thought I would pass it along in case Dylan’s mom wanted to do the same.

Scrapycruiser - we love the photo of your dogs. We also have two Cavaliers - a blenheim and a tri.

How about I post a link to each of the Questions of the Week in post 4 so that anyone interested can find where to locate the answers. That should be a little easier than Bev keeping track of it on a FE spreadsheet (especially since some people might not be doing the FE). Would that work?
