6th Annual Christmas Thread

Eek! 14 weeks?! Time to kick it up a notch!

Looking for ideas on where to find Schleich animals other than Toys R Us. My ds has been collecting them for years, and we seem to be running out of new ones. I ordered them online from TRUs last year. I went back to check the other day and only found 2 he doesn't already have. It's more of a tradition than a need at this point, but I'd like to keep it going if I can. It has to be Schleich, he's not interested in other brands...

TIA!

Have you tried ebay? I have seen them in specialty toy stores like Learning Express.

Ooh! Great idea. I haven't been on ebay in years...or in a store like learning express -- so I will try there. DS is 15 now, so I've gotten away from the educational stores.

It also just occurred to me "Duh, why don't you try Amazon?". I never think of it for anything other than books...

Thanks for getting my mind working on the right track!

I comparison shop Amazon for EVERYTHING. Have the app on my phone and even in the store, I will compare the store price with Amazon's price (I have the Prime membership and won't buy it if it's not with Prime free shipping) and even check with Target too to see what their price is because with my Red card I save 5% and get free shipping. Sometimes it pays to compare, sometimes not :)

I have several "wish lists" on Amazon too that I used to compare prices with I'm out & about :)

So... would it be a cop out to just get my cousin and her husband some gift cards instead of trying to figure out something else? Like, a Target gift card, a Bonefish Grill gift card (for a date night), some fast food cards (since her husband is an installer for an internet provider so he is in the truck all day), and the like? Any ideas?

Of course not!! I think it would be an awesome idea! People have forgotten that we should be thankful that someone has went out and got them a gift~and as far as adults~ I think we should stop buying at some point! unless you are really close...we expect too much from people nowadays...what about when all you got was a Christmas Carol sang by a church or your family/friends on Christmas Eve? I think we all have gotten spoilt ...but that is another topic! LOL!!

My son (3) told me the other day he wants Santa to bring him a Spiderman bike. This is great because I was thinking bike already. It is so funny to me how he all of a sudden really likes Spiderman without having ever seen a movie, show or book.

If I think there is a chance of a duplicate gift between myself and someone, I prefer to buy it in a store, usually TRU. Returning to Amazon feels like a pain! But, if I know it is pretty unlikely they will get something similar, I usually order it. I do make an effort to shop at locally owned stores as well- not as much as I feel like I should though. Amazon is just so darn easy and cheap!

See, I am not a religious person so Christmas is about family, love, and showing your appreciation. Just stating it so you know where my mind is. I love to give gifts. I love finding the perfect thing. That is how I show my appreciation. So, in a way, I feel like I am not doing ENOUGH for them. We are super close. My cousin was there for me all through my mom's illness and death. She is a sister to me more then just a cousin. It is just the way I look at it and I worry that it is not enough.

ok..I wasn't downing the gift giving! We do gifts too~being a Christian or not, the point was that I know lots of people who receive gifts and it is never appreciated...I was just reading(obviously, incorrectly) that you felt like it wasn't a 'good enough' gift~ I was agreeing with you that it was enough...if that is what is in your heart to give, it is always enough. Even if it's not much more than a 'Christmas Carol' or a batch of cookies....Whatever you take time to give or do is always enough. As far as being 'religious', it should also be about family, love, and showing appreciation. As a Christian, it's about the ultimate gift of love...so that is what the entire season is centered around~love. Whether you are a Christian or not..it's a giving season and no one should be made to feel their gift wasn't enough. I was only trying to support you!:flower3:

My DD wants a really soft stuffed animal. She saw a commercial on tv for the softest stuffed animal ever. Does anyone know of a brand or where to get soft stuffed animal? I don't really like buying from an infomercial but I may have to.

Sorry... my reply was a bit short and sharp. I apologize. I just get a lot of... grief... by people since I am not into the religious aspect of the holiday. So I get a bit defensive sometimes. I over reacted. Forgive me? :hippie:

The reason I am having trouble with the idea is because it doesn't seem personal enough. I know they would appreciate it and love it. Plus, they will be getting a Disney planning guide and a homemade ornament. So I know at some level that it would be okay, but I feel like I am not doing enough. I just don't know if it is just me being silly or if I am missing something.

Anyone have any suggestions about what sort of gift cards would be good? Amounts? Any fun ways to give them?

Of course I forgive you! LOL! That is the thing with this type of media~you never can quiiiiiiite tell the tone! Some people are really snarky and you think~was that suppose to come out like that?!! As far as the gift, the older we get the harder it gets to buy for us because we get so much for ourselves! I think you have some great ideas for them so far... as far as giving them, I would probably put them in a really nice basket that they can use later. Last year for my Grandparents, we bought a really big basket from Target and loaded it with a few pretty Birdhouses and stuff for their 'birds'...I just filled the bottom with tissue where it was empty~now they use the basket for Blankets in their living area.It was a Smith & Hawken basket that has the little chalkboard piece on the front/side.. That is always a good way to do gift cards or random and unrelated gifts because the Basket is a gift too! Slap a GIANT Christmas ribbon/bow on it too...then if you think of a few more small things you can add them and have plenty of room....I am sure the ladies here have other great ideas for presenting GCs... I know some have done a Gift Card tree...that's a cute idea too..

I actually already have a nice basket that I was going to use for their gift. Just before I was going to try to find some items. Now I am thinking about the gift cards instead.

So right now I have:
-Disney Planning Book (on order with Amazon to ship when the 2014 edition comes out).
-The homemade ornament
-Gift card to Target (she loves shopping there)
-Gift card to Bonefish Grill (for a date night)
-Gift card to Steak and Shake (for him to stop for lunch)

I feel I need a few more cards though... any ideas? Also, how much should I get on them?

well...the one for their date night, I am not familiar with, but how about $50 in case they like to order drinks and appetizers? For his card and her Target one, maybe $25-50...unless you are adding other little cards for sure then you could bump the price down on these...Do they like massages? If so maybe there is a local place you could get a gift card for....hmm.... Ladies? Y'all have any ideas here?! I am running out of things! OH! Do they like to go to the movies or bowling together? maybe GCs for those type places...

It really depends on how much you want to spend. I would do the date night one as the biggest gift card and then the others can be small gift cards. They are really going to add up. If you want to spend 100 total you can do 1 for 50 and 5 for 10. Or 1 for 50 and 2 for 25. Plus you getting the Disney Planning book which is a great idea and also the ornament. You get do less on the gift cards. It really is the thought that counts :)

Saw over on the budget board that TRU is having their friends and family sale over the next couple of days. I'm going to print out the coupon and run up there to check out some video games and Lego Technics for my dses.
