6/29/15 Magic to Norway & Iceland

:surfweb: I see that Jeff has visited and shared some knowledge... does this mean that he is creating a site for this cruise :thumbsup2:thumbsup2 Welcome to everyone! Very exciting to see everyone here. It will be the 10th Anniversary of the Fish Extender next year... so in true Disney fashion, we have to celebrate any anniversary :lmao: I am NOT volunteering to coordinate... but I must participate ;):) Debbie

You had no idea what you started when you found those pockets for the first fish extenders

My daughter, fabulousoldshoes, has already introduced herself, so I thought I should drop in and say hi too. We got our cruise confirmation yesterday morning and are looking forward to it. My daughter has been wanting to go to Iceland for several years now, so she was pretty happy when she told us that DCL was going there.:cheer2:

Hi all!

I couldn't resist this itinerary and booked in on Wednesday. It's so strange that after this winter and the so far non-spring, I'm looking forward to travelling to Iceland (as well as Alaska this May). Brrrr!

I see some familiar names from 05 WBPC, and some other itineraries. Julia, I don't think I've sailed with you, but I think on my last sailing another guest thought I was you (?).

And here's a quick little joke for the other Rhode Islandah I saw somewhere upthread:

What does the Fox say?
"I resign"

LOL You and me both!!! I loved the one you got in Scotland last year.

Thanks. Based on some of those temps, looks like I will need it on this cruise.

We are hoping to do the helicopter glacier and dog sledding tour too. ABD isn't doing any add-ons this year though for Alaska :-( I do hope they decide to do add-ons on this cruise though! Since I am from Florida, to me chilly is anything below 74ºF. At 10-12 Celsius I need a coat and gloves LOL

We loved the helicopter ride and dog sledding on our 2012 Alaska cruise. I hope you get to do it!

Woo hoo...super excited to be on this cruise....seeing some familiar names....I will be cruisin' with my friend Linda (Seaulater). We are in an 11A (I think) and are doing a B2B2B2B...:faint:

I know Linda. We were on the 08 WBpC together.

I am OVER THE MOON:banana::banana::banana: to say we booked this today! We are in a 9A and transferred the OBB from a So Caribbean sailing 9/14. Norway, Denmark and ESP Iceland have been on all our bucket lists, we had to do it! Hoping to rope in some cruising friends, too! This will be our third DCL cruise.

So with those temps, no swimming/aquadunk right?

It is me (Jenn, 42), DH (Eric, 43), DD (13 on cruise) and DD (11 on cruise)

Can't wait to get to know you all!

Hopefully DCL will take a short trip north from Akureyri to cross the artic circle... it seems that is only 98 km - 61 miles ....

Julia, I don't think I've sailed with you, but I think on my last sailing another guest thought I was you (?).
that's funny, my I ask what cruise that was? I remember your name from disboards, though don't think we have been on any cruises together, though could be wrong and could have just never met

Hi, we booked first day too .. It'll be my partner Mick (actually, he'll be my husband by then) and I. We get married on board the Magic WBTA this Sept and this new cruise will make us Platinum! Yay.

Like loliankent, we also live in Kent so can do some research for transfers etc. we have a family friend who does airport transfers and he may know others too. I can get all of their details and go from there.

Really pleased to see Scott and family of DCL blog are going. Fantastic blog and will be good to say thanks in person for the info he gives out. More British chocolate will be given for sure ;-) Our TA is also going and hopefully our friends too, although that will depend on their 17yr old daughter.

Looking forward to it.
Joa and Mick

I have a question regarding language, as I have not been to these places before and am not sure what is the best way to speak while there. I understand that most of the people in all of these ports will also speak some English, as they start learning languages much younger than the students here in the States. However, I don't wish to assume that English is spoken by everyone, so I was wondering if it is best to learn a few words in Norwegian and Icelandic? In Copenhagen, I figure I can get by with some German, as there is a bit of similarity in the languages, I will just need to brush up on it. Will I find that to be the case in the other ports? Probably best to download a language app from Itunes I suppose. I also speak a bit of French and Russian, if anyone thinks that will help, I can brush up on those too. Being Hungarian, I am fluent in that, but I highly doubt that will get me anywhere in the Nordic countries! Actually, I am most worried about getting along in England, what with all those strange words like "bonny" and "snog". And the accents, oh my, England will be a challenge! ;) Just kidding, of course! My daughter and I are actually really looking forward to being surrounded by those fantastic English accents! My husband is looking forward to the Norwegian women. As long as my daughter and I get to drool in England, he can drool in Norway! :thumbsup2

Just FYI, English people don't say bonny, that's a very Scottish word. We do say snog though. For those who don't know, a snog is when 2 people have a good smoochy kiss and cuddle (no further!).
Perhaps loliankent and I should put up some English slang phrases for people to learn!!

If people want to immerse themselves in Disney, don't forget that Disneyland Paris is close by to Dover. Easiest way to get there is get a train to Ashford, then the Eurostar direct to DLP. Not cheap, but an option.

Hi all!

Just wanted to join in as we have booked this cruise as well. We are Danes, actually living in Copenhagen, and thought we should come say Hi! when Mickey is in town. We will be myself, my wife and our two kids (boy 3, girl 8).

Any questions relating to Copenhagen - please feel free to ask here or PM me.

Looking very much forward to welcoming you all to our home town!

You'd know Amy if you've cruised with her before!

One can only hope!

How many Jen's are on this cruise?

If people want a website, Jeff has said he will do it[/QUOTE I am all for him doing this it would be greatly appreciated from someone who does not know how to do this. Thanks in advance

He'll do it. I wish the website from 2011 was still up, it was nifty. However, nothing is ever dead on the internet: http://web.archive.org/web/20110209115407/http://wonderpanama2011.com/

Another Jen? So excited that a native of Copenhagen is on board. It's probably the biggest mystery to us (what to do in the short time we are there!)

Any knitters on board? I'm stinking excited to go to Norway for the wool and yarn! (despite living in Florida now and not really having the need for wool) :rolleyes1:rolleyes1

We are booked in a 9C as of early this morning. Glad my TA was on top of things. I had my confirmation from her by 6:45am central time. Since then, the price has gone up by $1000. We are super excited. It will be my friend, my son who will be 5 at the time and me. This will be our 3rd Disney cruise. We are doing Alaska this summer. Let the research begin!
Hi all, we too are very excited to be jumping on board this cruise with all of you! We includes me, DH, DD (18 when we cruise) and DS 16 (when we cruise). This will be our 8th Disney cruise, including the July 2010 Baltic, a 2011 Alaska, and the Med w/ Greece and Turkey last July. I am sure many of you will be familiar faces on board based on your past cruising history :), and we look forward to seeing everyone. In the meantime, let the planning and researching and dreaming begin in earnest :woohoo:

:welcome: aboard everybody!!!

How to pronounce things.

Icelandic Lesson #28: Places in Iceland - Pronunciation - YouTube

Thank you! I have updated page one with the port manual sunset/rise times and the you tube link!

If people want a website, Jeff has said he will do it

That would be awesome!

I started to make a Google doc for the fish extender, but if someone else wants to do it, that's ok too.

If you are volunteering to coordinate let me know so I can add the Google doc to page 1 and your instructions on how you would like to coordinate things.

Thanks. Based on some of those temps, looks like I will need it on this cruise. We loved the helicopter ride and dog sledding on our 2012 Alaska cruise. I hope you get to do it!

Me too!

That would be cool! I imagine sending an email to DCL wouldn't hurt. They have been known to do things based on guest feedback and suggestions.
