50s Prime Time--are they doing the "antics" still?

I was just able to book a 12:30 lunch at 50's Prime Time for our trip in early April! We haven't been to that restaurant in more than a decade. I know back then it kind of "depends on the server" but are some still doing the "antics?" We'd actually really like the antics!

Yes they are my son was just there with his GF and some friends they made him stand against the wall because he kept putting his elbows on the table......He also told me he was mad cause they didn't have the Chicken Pot pie on the menu anymore !!!!

We were there last month and they were definitely doing the antics! DH got yelled at 4 times for his elbows on the table. My kids were cracking up and still love to bring it up to him. Also a table next to us was reprimanded for using their cel phones during lunch

Can we opt out from the antics? I want to eat there for the allergy-friendly menu but I know my family wouldn’t be fan of being yelled at, even for fun.

I'm with you! i actually canx my ADR after reading some of the tripadvisor reviews. Granted a lot of them were pre-covid and someone even mentioned getting a cream pie to the face which i doubt could happen these days. But, yeah, I thought - there's no way my party is going to enjoy being fake yelled at. They just don't have that sense of humor. there is one person i know that's laid back enough and also grew up in that era so I'd take them only... They'd understand it all better...

I feel like they read our table really well with how far they took the antics. We are not an outgoing, play along family, but we will respond and laugh at simple things like What color was the soap in the bathroom (to make sure you washed your hands) or young man you didn’t eat your green beans! Basically gentle ribbing. They never took it farther than that with us and we have eaten there several times Pre-Covid.

Good to know!

We were last there about a year ago. The antics were sorely lacking no matter how much we put our elbows on the table. Sadly the food was really lacking too. It was by far the worst meal we had on our 10 day trip. The only antic I can remember happening was our server playing it up when she gave us clean plate stickers. Which was really ironic since we’d barely touched the food.

That was our last experience. I intentionally put m elbows on the table when our server came by, left some green beans and nothing.
The food was good, not great, but what I expected there. Nothing we had was bad.

We were at PT last July. Our server immediately announced to our party he was not into the "fun" side of Prime Time and if we wanted the antics we could wait for another table. We were sitting to the farthest left table right near the bathroom hallway. There was no TV and no fun. We had other things scheduled so we could not wait for another table as we were told we had to wait until someone did not show up. Prime Time has been a "go to" for us every trip for several years until a couple years ago. Prices have increased, portions have decreased, and the fun is a crap shoot dependent on the server. We tried PT again last July as we had others with us that had never been to HS. We passed on PT our October and January trips. I would just as soon enjoy alfresco dining at Brown Derby with the fantastic cobb salad.

There's nothing mean spirited to it. But most of the charm of this restaurant is the interaction, so if your family isn't into that then your best bet is to look for a meal elsewhere.

I can't imagine any server EVER actually putting a cream pie into a customer's face!

I don't think he should be a server at PT then or WCC then.

As others have said, I think it really depends on the server. Ours was fantastic, and watching her with other tables I think she really read the tables well. She was way more interacty with us than with another table, but that table was much more quiet and reserved. Our family is loud and obnoxious so we got lots of interaction :rotfl:

The food was hit or miss for us. Mom and I had fried chicken and allergy friendly meatloaf and it was delicious. Everyone else had chicken Caesar salads and said they were mediocre. My dad said it was the worst meal he had on our trip. But we had so much fun and we loved watching the stuff on tv, and that really made up for the mediocre food.

We have dined there 3 times and it's been a mixed bag. I'm a deep introvert and and the experience of having that attention, even in fun, would have been difficult.

Fortunately for me, we had servers who were able to read us pretty well, and while I enjoyed watching the antics around the rest of the room, they backed off of it for us which was greatly appreciated.

There is no way in any lifetime that a cast member would put a cream pie in a customers face unless it was prearranged and Disney had multiple lawyers on hand with legal documents saying you won't sue and pens to sign those papers with.
