500 plus flights cancelled

What a nightmare for anyone trying to get home for Christmas! I also just read 2000 flights cancelled worldwide. Hope all you Dis’ers are already where you want to be and not having to deal with this headache.

I heard about this on the news. What a mess. They were showing the airports and they were packed and lines for covid testing at the airport were hours long. People missing flights. They said they didn't have enough flight crews to work the flights with many testing positive for covid.

We are flying MCO-BWI then BWI-PWM on Southwest on Christmas morning. HOPEFULLY most people aren't traveling on Christmas so loads will be small and we won't be delayed. Fingers crossed!!

Yes, plus if you are flying out tomorrow morning your flight would probably have been cancelled by now.

It's over 5,000 flights now globally cancelled. It's just a nightmare of a holiday season to travel. Next year will be a different ballgame though....this latest variant was a curveball, but I do believe 2022 is the year that we truly learn to live with this whole situation. I hope this is the end of these types of disruptions. And obviously hope that everyone stays healthy and safe.

Thank you! I'm looking forward to the drive almost as much as the destination. Nice and relaxing, and when I feel the need for a break or a snack I can do it as I want. The best part it is a company provided vehicle so my only cost will be what I buy during the drive, and no cost for a rental once I get there. I'm very lucky and I am grateful for it.

It's being reported that at least 5000 flights will be cancelled between dec 23-25.

Globally over a period of 3 days. Delta canceling 150 flights is terrible for those on the 150 but overalll they run about 5 thousand per day.

Our province is totally overwhelmed. There are over 10000 covid tests to be processed so until the system can catch up, no more testing is happening. Tests are only valid for 72 hours and so if they keep testing, they will expire before they can be processed.

The head dr has said if you have any symptoms that could be covid, assume you have Omicron and isolate for 10-14 days. Christmas has been shut down, as of today.

My sister was going to host dinner tomorrow, but has now scaled way back because her son and daughter had positive cases in their classes and my sister got the email this afternoon. We weren’t going to go because we’re both high risk, and now my brother and his girlfriend, my daughter, and my parents are now not going.

My 21 yr old nephew and his new wife are stuck in Chicago's Ohare right now. Their connecting flight to Michigan from Las Vegas (their Honeymoon destination)was canceled because apparently the pilot is sick. My brother is trying to help them get a rental so they can drive home. At least it would only be a 3 hour trip and the weather isn't bad. Apparently they can't get their luggage. It's just a mess. I would think when a pilot is ill they have back up??

One would think but they (airlines) have staffing shortages and people out with COVID.

It’s gotten to the point in many industries right now that there isn’t back up anymore. They were short to start. Now, with many testing positive, there is no one else available. It is happening in hospitals, restaurants, and many other businesses, too, unfortunately. What a mess!

I'm sure most airlines have back ups. Whether they have ENOUGH backups is a different story. I remember when flights resumed following 9/11, we ended up spending the night at ATL because there weren't enough flight attendants for our 75 minute flight home.

We made it out just fine Christmas Eve and on time. Who knows what will happen on the return.
