50 Shades of Grey

Exactly!!

See, I hate this book. I mean HATE it. I read about 12 pages and stopped. For me the writing is too horrible to get past. I can't read books that are horribly written, it hurts my brain.

Aside from that, I skimmed the sex scenes as I have friends who don't know me well tell me where they were. I was bored. As someone who has read more classic and interesting erotica this just pales in comparison. The scenes aren't dark, alluring or interesting. True erotica is shocking but enticing.

Sorry, I could go on but I don't want to. I know there really are so many women out there who love this series. And I don't want to be a snob about it.

I just wish women out there who find this so exciting would realize there's so much better material out there and it is OK to read it, and it is ok to LIKE it! I think that's what bothers me the most, that people are afraid to say they like this type of story.

Double exactly! Honestly, the sex scenes really aren't that extreme. They talk about far more than they actually do; the things they actually do, if I remember correctly, aren't particularly original or intense. I'm not sure the actual activities veer particularly far from the more explicit scenes in more mainstream modern romance novels.

What annoys me is all the fuss about the book, as if we're just discovering women have a sexual imagination. I'm glad people have found something they like, but I hope this is a jumping-off point for women being more honest and open, at least with themselves.

Well give suggestions.

It's not snobby to say it's not the best but everyone has to start somewhere right? So people are enjoying it and it starts the conversation and now maybe "better written" books can get some light.

So what are your suggestions?

The bad reviews I am reading on this thread reinforce my decision NOT to buy these books. I contemplated it, especially since they've been getting so much buzz, but I can't handle cheesy, poorly written work. That's why I stopped reading the Sookie Stackhouse stuff. I teach HS English and am paid to read poorly written work all year. I need a break.:rotfl:

I agree that the writing was pretty bad, but I did like the overall story. A few days ago I heard that Ian Somerhalder is interested in the lead role. I can't imagine a better actor for this role.

Is he Christian Grey or what? :lovestruc

YES!! I love Boone, I mean Damon, I mean Ian:rotfl:

His eyebrow acting is heart stopping. He has the most beautiful eyes.

Really too bad RDJ isn't young enough for this. He'd be perfect.

For some odd reason the only other character I have an actor in mind for is Elliot, who probably won't even make the movie. I think he should be the guy who played "Awesome" on Chuck.

who is rdj? I could see Channing Tatum playing Christian. But the hair would be the issue.

This series is nothing at all like Twilight.

Do you know how many romance/erotic novels are set in the state of Washington.....

Do you know how many romance/erotic novels have 2 men pining after the same woman.....

After I read the first book I was hooked and I truly enjoyed it, while its not high literature its a great fun read. Nothing wrong with that, people today might need that in their lives.

I think its amazing how many people are talking about it and having discussions, I think its great.

For those looking to read this series and please no offense to the lovely Dis'ers you may not want to use this board as your reference.

I can totally see this being made into a movie with no problem at all and I think it can be done very well. It may have an NC 17 rating so it can be more real and natural. Let's face it, no kids under the age 18 should even be reading this type of book. I am sure they are though.

This movie should be geared toward adults and the rating it is going to start at is NC 17 and if this director whomever that may be should know he needs to stay as true to the book as possible with this many fans we are all going to have some very high expectations.

Just to throw it out there, I thought that Leila could be played by Mila Kunis maybe....I also thought that Ana should be played by Blake Lively.

Christian is going to be the tough part because this guy has got to be amazing and good looking but also able to act. That is really what counts.

I would love to see a couple of no name actors come into play here.

Even though he is too old I see Jared Leto as Christian

I could also see Colin Farrell as Christian too. He has that look about him.

As much as I do enjoy Robert Pattinson and talk about a break out role for him, I don't see him in this. Funny I wonder if Oprah would have had EL James on her talk show.......:rotfl2:

Happy Reading to all!

Yes!!!! He would be perfect!! And closer to Christian Grey's age...late 20's.

Robert Downy Jr. is a yes for me. I love him! I think he's a great actor and HOT!! Colin Farrell is one wouldn't mind seeing either, YUM!

I'm going to have to say no on the Blake Lively. She was awful in The Town.
I could see Ed Westwick in it though.

These books, despite the writing flaws, are like crack: addictive!!! Just finished 50 Shades Darker. Likes it better than the first.
I think Ian Somerhalder is the obvious choice for Mr Grey. He has those stunning looks and the eyes!!
As far aas Ana, I cannot imagine anyone other than Zooey Deschanel. She can pull off plain Jane and sexy goegeous. I really hope they don't cast someone with generic good looks, it will ruin the role. Zooey IS Anastasia!!!

Zoeey Deshnel is too goofy. Not at all what I picture. I don't know. maybe Jenifer Lawrence or Chole Grace Moretz. They are more a bit more capable of being serious and less hipster cool.

Read all there this past weekend. Like the previous poster said earlier its like crack. LOL

I would love to see these done on Showtime or HBO... I think if its done in the movies it won't be as good as it could be. Love the picture of the guy posted above.. Perfect. I think for a girl they are gonna have to go off the beaten path and get someone not famous..

Just finished reading all three books and all I can say is :faint:! :lmao: The whole time I was reading and thinking, oh yeah, I can see this being made into a movie. I would buy it on DVD for sure! :happytv:

Not exactly sure who this Ian guy is, but when I saw that picture posted I said "mmmh" and "ooh". If he could pull off the "steam" and that "tension" that (IMO) jumps off the page, he most certainly would be an awesome Christian Grey. :smokin:

But what I want to know is if there is anyone else that looks at a nice looking business man walking down the street and wonder if he could be a "fifty shades" type person?

He's on vampire diaries and he was also in Lost. I could definetly see this being on HBO. I think with the amount of sex cable is the only way to go. It will be too hard to get anything but a nc 17 rating and stay true to the story.

Does anyone else NOT like this book? I've heard so much about it that I started to read it. I'm about halfway through the book, and there are many many 'scenes' in it, but there is no point or plot to it whatsoever. I'll probably finish this book, but wouldn't even think to read the other 2.

I haven't read it...but since I hated book one of the Twilight, Outlander, and the Sookie Stackhouse series, I suspect I would hate this too. They all made me LOL.
