50 Shades of Grey

Why do you feel bad for reading Twilight? It's so weird to me that people feel bad about reading. Good or bad at least you are reading! Topic shouldn't matter. it's so ridiculous to shame others about what they may like or to take a book snob approach to books like 50 or Twilight. Annie Rice is ok but I like when authors get to the point. I read Exit to Eden and thought it was at moments SO BORING! How long can you go on describing a "drag queens" attire!! Either way Don't feel bad, is my point. You're staying current and in the popular conversation and NOW can make your own opinion vs not reading it because someone told you not to.

I can't speak for anyone but myself, but I know I don't like reading poorly written books because number one, life's just to short to waste my time on crap and number two I really don't like feeling like I've lost IQ points just for having read a book.

I saw this indie film on Amazon instant video recently that reminded me of 50 shades. I don't know why, but it struck me right away just from the cover. It's a movie I recommend to Grey fans. It's a strange romance triangle going on, with some action, and deep wound drama. The film was called A Dominatrix Story by Ingsung Hwang. I think it's on Amazon and iTunes right now.

I found the facebook page: facebook.com/ADominatrixStory

I just think Twilight is poorly written. It's a compelling subject, but it was tedious at times...but I was involved in the story and I wanted to see how it ended. Also I finished 50 shades today and I've come to the conclusion I didn't like that either. It really was just like Twilight...for those who couldn't see the resemblance:

1. Mother is with lots of different men and lives in a different state.
2. Male lead is more beautiful than words
3. Father or "stepfather" lives close and is ackward
4. Male buys female expensive car.
5. Doomed love theme
6. don't want to give away the end of book one but I believe it is very similar to how book 2 begins in twilight.
7. the gliding scene in 50 shades, kind of similar to edward running with bella.

I could go on, but you get my point :)

I don't judge anyone by what they enjoy reading. At first I thought 50 shades may have been better than twilight but I disagree...twilight was way better. I'm not going to even bother with the rest of the 50 shades trilogy.

I would agree with you. I feel bad cause I guess that may sound snobbish...but it's true.

However, I totally love chick lit...I loved all of the shopaholic series and didn't feel bad about reading those one bit. I have pretty eclectic tastes. I enjoy Brett Easton Ellis, Anne Rice, Stephen King, J.K. Rowling, and Michael Pollan when I'm in the mood for non fiction.

For me, very honestly, bad writing makes for bad reading. When something is written as woodenly and poorly as 50 Shades, I am less involved with the characters, less compelled by the plot, less moved by the themes. I'm not saying that all reading has to be highbrow or literary--I really enjoy a good read in any genre and I'm annoyed by people who dismiss books because of the genre in which they're written. For me, though, 50 Shades was so poorly written that I really, honestly couldn't get into the book.

I swear if she thought "oh my" one more time....

They actually addressed that in the book- that they wouldn't have that much money except they were some kind of depository for the west coast or something. ...there are other things I would address but I'll put them in white font so they aren't spoilers... highlight to read.

What are the chances that she just happened to get a job at the same publishing company as someone he lived with as a child half way across the country? And everyone was so ticked at her at the end- what did they expect her to do differently? And someone needed to go through and edit the 'british-isms' if Ana & Christian are supposed to have been born and raised here.

Does anyone want to tell me how this ends. I finished the first book but I don't want to read the other two. personally I think the end of the first book should have been it...however, curiosity has gotten the best of me and I can't find any info online. Feel free to PM me write a post in white or with a long spoiler warning...Thanks :)

Ditto! I am spoiler-happy. I even read a summary of Transformers...

PM sent.

A few threads back I said a few things and I think I made a few people upset, so I will send a PM.

That would make at least 3 of us who'd like spoilers, please. If you could PM me as well, OhMari, I'd really appreciate it.

I just finished Exit to Eden by Rice thought it was good.

I like your pics. I know it was a Twilight fanfic but Robert Pattinson's features are too fine for how I picture Christian, not having seen or read twilight.

Didn't realize there were people looking for spoilers, have all your ?'s been answered?

The only problem I can see with your choices is that Matt Bomer is openly gay and thus I don't know if I could believe him in this kind of role. Don't get me wrong, I think he is uber talented and supremely hot...I just don't know that if I could get my own knowledge out of my head in order to buy it.

Mine have, thanks :) I feel like such a cheater asking for the end of the books without reading them. Though after reading the great spoiler from OhMari I realize all I needed to do was think about how the Twilight series flowed and just insert Ana for Bella and I would have gotten the answers I needed.

His sexuality doesn't mean much to me. He's an actor playing a role. Neil Patrick Harris can do it. IMO he does it well. Matt Bomer has done some sex scenes with woman on his show. I liked it. So who knows?

Oh, I know he could probably do a great job. I was saying, for ME, in this kind of S&M role, I don't know that I would find it believable. YMMV.
